Re: Josh Taylor vs Jack Catterall Scorecard by MZam04
Round 1 - Both guys landed some decent shots but it’s obvious Catterall was landing the better ones. Very convincing win for Jack to start.
Round 2 - This one seems to be somewhat contested but I’m kind of confused as to why. It really seemed like Catterall was outboxing Taylor for most of the round. Taylor landed some good shots here and there but Jack definitely landed the better ones. Josh tried to steal the round at the end with the flurry but very few of them were landing clean.
Round 3 - I gave this one to Taylor albeit it was incredibly close. Catterall landed some very solid shots in the final minute but Taylor was busier for most of the round and I’d say just about outdid Jack’s work. I reckon you could give this one to either guy.
Round 4 - This one started off competitive, then Catterall seemed to take a break for about 2 minutes. He then came back and landed his best shots of the round, completely taking it. It was similar to his strategy in the previous round but I felt he had more success this time.
Round 5 - For the first half of round 5 it was close yet again but then Jack landed a 2 punch combination to the chin which I reckon was his best shots of the fight so far. Josh tried to steal the round back but he didn’t do near enough imo.
Round 6 - This one was closer than most of the rounds so far. Both guys were pretty active for a lot of the round but it was still a definite win for Jack. He simply landed the better punches throughout the 3 minutes.
Round 7 - Whilst this one was close, I think it was Taylor’s first convincing win of the fight. I honestly think you could’ve given Jack every round before this one. Both landed good shots but Taylor was the busier one which I felt gave him the edge.
Round 8 - Despite the knockdown, this one was incredibly competitive and I honestly think you could give it to either guy. That being said, I edged it to Jack. I think Josh landed a few more clean shots than Jack but Catterall was able to knockdown Taylor with a good combination. If it wasn’t for the knockdown punches, I probably would’ve given this round to Taylor.
Round 9 - I remember seeing some people say when this fight happened that Josh won round 9 but I really struggle to see how. I felt Jack outboxed Josh for most of it. Taylor did land some decent shots but I don’t think it was enough to win the round.
Round 10 - Probably Taylor’s best round of the fight so far. He was busier and landed a lot of good shots throughout the round. Jack landed some solid punches as well but I felt Josh did the better work overall.
Round 11 - Fairly dull round. Neither landed too much but it was still a convincing Catterall win as he was a lot more accurate with his punches. Taylor was busier but most of his shots weren’t landing clean.
Round 12 - This is another round that I remember being fairly split but I thought it was a great finish by Catterall. He was able to dodge most of Taylor’s shots and landed some really good ones of his own.
Overall, I’d say this was a decent fight. Around 7/10. Most rounds were pretty entertaining although both guys were fighting pretty dirty and the referee kept stepping in any chance he had which got irritating after a while.
This was a very solid performance from Jack. He simply outboxed Josh for most of the fight and surprised me that he was able to knock Taylor down as he didn’t seem to be the biggest puncher.
This was an awful decision. I really don’t think you could give Josh more than 4 rounds. One of the judges gave him 8 which baffles me.
