R1- Mayweather is the aggressor and is pretty active with the jab. Serrano is staying away from Mayweather’s power punches well (aside when he pulls down his head), but his work rate is very poor. The crowd still goes wild when Serrano throws anything, but Mayweather easily pockets this round.

R2- Serrano comes rushing in at the start, but quickly retreats to the ropes upon feeling some shots from Mayweather. While Serrano is showing a pretty solid defense while circling the ropes, Mayweather is still able to pierce it often with his long power shots, and Serrano is spending too much time loading up a single left hook.

R3- A cut in the footage occurs early, so it’s hard to tell how much or what exactly was missed. Mayweather is still catching Serrano with long left hooks and right hands, while maintaing the role of the aggressor at all times.

R4- Lots of rough infighting occurs and this seems to benefit both men, who land several body shots up close. Serrano, the less active of the two, is the only one showing any real defense up close. While Mayweather is still catching him in between, Serrano is frequently making him his his arms or shoulders or stray past his back. Serrano is cranking up everything into his potshots, and his first left hook seems to buckle Mayweather a bit. Despite ruining his momentum by bulldozing Mayweather instead of following up, he is able to catch him with several clean left hooks, right hands and uppercuts. Both seem to throw and land at a similar rate and Mayweather is doing more work to the body, but Serrano’s shots seem to be more effective. On top of that, his defense was more effective as well. Best round of the fight for the champion, but still a pretty close one.

R5- Serrano spends most of the round circling, with him being pelted by right hands from Mayweather. When Serrano gets close, Mayweather tags his body and head with short left hooks. A wild exchange that Mayweather dominates ends the round.

R6- A lot of the round consists of the two exchanging on the ropes, with Mayweather easily outhustling the champion. Early, a left hook causes Serrano’s head to dip, which Mayweather capitalizes on by buckling him with a right uppercut. Serrano is able to land numerous clean left hooks in between, but Mayweather is responding with entire combinations.

R7- An absurd amount of vaseline covers the left eyebrow of Serrano. The rapid, herky jerky head movement of Serrano has now depleted, forcing him to be a sitting duck for the combinations of Mayweather from any range. Despite not truly relying on it, Mayweather has been very active with the jab the whole fight. A right hand late in the round wobbles Serrano, who ends up getting trapped on the ropes. A right uppercut rocks him upwards and then a follow-up 2-3-2-3 combination leaves him unsteady at the bell. Great round and closing portion for the champion, who was about to build further on the momentum he had just established.

R8- Every right hand from Mayweather is having an effect on Serrano. After being bossed around for over a minute, an overhand right snaps back the head of Mayweather, clearly hurting him. The two engage in a sloppy clinch, each trying to take the other out in between. Mayweather has more tenacity and speed at this rate. A right uppercut sends Serrano reeling forward in a crouch. Mayweather starts to put punches together, causing Serrano to duck low from a left hook. After this, Mayweather catches him flush with a right hand after he rises, laying him flat. Serrano barely gets up before the count is up, but his corner rushes in to stop the fight. Great win and showing by the Black Mamba. This honestly was a step up in class for both and even though Serrano was near the end of his career, I think Mayweather beats the best version of him. The volume, power, craftiness and speed was too much for the aged, awkward veteran throughout. The final round was particularly great and underrated.
