R1- While the champion is looking stiff and tenative, Napoles is scoring at will with his jab. More often than not, a combination comes after the jab of Napoles, allowing him to establish his rhythm very early in the bout.

R2- Napoles is really picking his spots off on Cokes, who is clearly overwhelmed by the volume and accuracy of his combinations. Notably, Napoles is mixing it up to the head and body well, confusing him with his footwork, and tagging him at will with the jab. At one point, Napoles moves Cokes into his right hand with a few left hooks. Cokes lands a pair of counter rights late, but they are too little too late.

R3- The jab accuracy between the two is night and day, as Napoles is landing it precisely, while Cokes can’t seem to hit him with it at all. In fact, Cokes is unable to put any real offense together or negate the in and out combinations of Napoles.

R4- Cokes has a bit of success with the jab early, but backpedals into the corner after taking a left hook. Napoles starts to find a home for the punch after and cuts Cokes off several times when on the ropes, landing body shots. Due to his jab, Cokes has a better round than the previous three, but it is not a round that he won.

R5- While Cokes is still having some success with the jab, Napoles is landing his jab off rhythm and winning the battle of it. The 1-2 and 3-2 are landing consistently for Napoles.

R6- Cokes is clearly lost, as he is merely potshotting the jab and just occasionally throwing the right hand. The zigzag footwork of Napoles is definitely throwing him off and allowing Napoles to land left hooks at unexpected angles. A right hand-left hook combo staggers Cokes, who later gets rocked again by a counter oveer the top. A 45-degree jab lands before the bell for Napoles, who had himself a good round.

R7- The off-rhythm jab and zigzag, herky jerky movement of Napoles are still befuddling Cokes. This is perhaps Cokes’ best round of the fight, as he lands a decent amount of lead rights on Napoles, but Napoles is outjabbing him with ease as well as getting in and out to land short combinations to the chest and stomach.

R8- The footwork of Napoles is proving too tricky for Cokes to time, thus rendering him defenseless and unable to stay away. The feinting of Napoles has been nice. For instance, he fakes a charge at one point just to hit Cokes with two stiff jabs after. Despite primarily working off the jab, this was a real technically sound showing from Napoles.

R9- A rally from Napoles has Cokes on the ropes at the start of the round. Cokes shows durability and grit, but an incompetent guard, as Napoles is able to get around and through it over and over. Napoles coasts after Cokes survives the barrage, but still maintains control.

R10- Napoles is stalking Cokes and potshotting the jab. When Cokes opens up for the first time, Napoles completely negates anything he could do by landing an effective pair of rights and some body shots in between, briefly trapping Cokes on the ropes. Cokes comes back to land a counter right that rocks Napoles in what is his best punch of the fight, but takes another combo and loses the round easily.

R11- Cokes is still being touched up by the jab. After the times where Cokes is able to land, he gets countered by something(s) superior. Napoles starts to put some more combinations together in the final minute.

R12- The eyes of Cokes are swollen profusely. Understandably, Cokes is mostly looking to survive at this stage, not fight. Napoles does not go for the kill, but lands several effective shots, including a right hand that sends Cokes into a corner before following up with a short combination.

R13- Not that he was able to in the first place when he could see, but Cokes is now completely unable to sustain a solid defense against the unorthodox and painful assault of Napoles. Virtually every eye-catching shot makes Cokes hold and look flustered. The ref calls for the doctor to inspect Cokes late and surprisingly, Cokes is allowed to continue. All this does is allow Napoles to get in another combination before the bell. Due to the poor condition of his eyes, Cokes is pulled out of the fight. What a statement and coming out party for Mantequilla. He had already established a career of many fights, albeit against lesser known boxers, just to look every bit of elite in his first visit to world level. Curtis Cokes may have been a very good fighter back in his day and is ultimately a hall of famer, but Napoles completely schooled him and made him look below average, while making himself look every bit above it. As if this fight was not lopsided enough, the two would meet again right after, only for Napoles to seal the deal even faster.
