Anthony Joshua UD

Jarod Killian's picture

Unless Usyk pulls off an Andy Ruiz Jr in here, there's no way, literally no way as in NO FUCKING WAY IN HELL that Usyk walks out of fucking Wembley or O2 or Manchester or wherever with a points win. Not when there's hundreds of millions if not a couple of billions of dollars at stakes with the 2 potential back to back WWE WrestleMania Carney Sideshow Circus Clown Freak Main Event Acts between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua they've got on the pipeline. Just ain't gonna happen. I think Usyk will be game here may even pull such a performance that consensus is he won the fight but ultimately if THAT is the case then he WILL GET ROBBED. No IFs, BUTs or WHATNOTs. That's just one scenario I'm seeing I could easily see Joshua outboxing Usyk cleanly and winning fair and square or even stopping Usyk but just saying if the opposite happens then a robbery will be taking place.

I largely agree. I think Usyk will give Joshua problems but he's not winning on points. between hometown judging and just the sheer amount of money.

I predicted a majority decision for usyk prior to the fight (thought the judging would suck more than it did) ... I figured there's no way AJ could outbox Usyk... maybe get a late KO... but I knew Usyk had a very good chin, proved it was great tonight. If you wanna check my prediction (I could understand some not believing me) - My IG is CFSportsClub_. My prediction and analysis are on posts that on SibbieBxing page. I thought I posted the video on my posts but was in my story that is now gone.

Champion97's picture

Prediction.

Experience favours Usyk slightly, Joshua is experienced, his resume is good, but Usyk's is better, and he has an extensive amateur and WSB background, but in terms of strength and sheer power, this is an ease off for Joshua. Usyk was big at 200, he isn't too small to do well at heavyweight, but he wasn't a puncher at 200, he has very little power at heavyweight, Joshua has been hurt in a lot of fights, but when he isn't, he's very hard to beat. Joshua doesn't have Usyk's punch accuracy, and Usyk's lateral movement is a problem for almost any heavyweight, but Joshua's basics are better, he uses his reach, has a purposeful jab, has good hand speed and a high output for his size. I think Joshua's punch variety is better than Usyk's, he has a good punch arsenal, and doubles up on shots, and on top of the clear power difference, he's a better finisher than Usyk, is explosive, has the perfect mentality when the opponent is hurt. Usyk's defence is better than Joshua's, he doesn't often get bullied onto the defensive either, he let's shots slip past him and counters. I think Usyk's ring IQ is higher than Joshua's overall, Joshua has proven he can adapt to different styles and implement different game plans, but Usyk is strategically brilliant, often has more control than he seems to because of his ring generalship. Usyk has at least a decent chin, but with his size, he'll need to have a granite chin to hold up well when Joshua lands clean, how he holds up is very important, and so is his recovery and survival, which are the only aspects Usyk hasn't been tested in. I think Usyk can hurt Joshua, especially to the body, because he's intelligent enough to land an accurate shot which Joshua doesn't see, but Joshua's conditioning is good, his survival has improved, and I don't think Usyk can knock Joshua out or build on hurting him enough to stop him.

I think Joshua will establish his jab in the early rounds, keep Usyk on the back foot, and delay Usyk from cutting the distance, but Usyk will be out of position for the right hand, Joshua will cut off the ring, but whenever Usyk is on the ropes, he will step to the side. I think Usyk will come on in the mid rounds, will time his head movement when Joshua throws the jab, will be busier with his own jab, and he will set up some clean single shots, I think he'll hurt Joshua to the body, but Joshua will stay behind his jab, will respond well mentally, and Usyk will struggle to build momentum off it. I think Joshua will hurt Usyk when he lands clean, Usyk will go on the defensive at that point, and the tempo will drop, Joshua will keep out working Usyk with his jab, won't be able to match Usyk for accuracy, but his chin will hold up well when Usyk lands flush, won't be frustrated by Usyk's defence or accuracy. I think the first 8 rounds will have taken more out of Usyk, he'll have had to box under consistent pressure, Joshua will have drawn a lot of reactions from him, because of the respect Usyk will have for Joshua's power, and that's mentally draining. If Usyk's movement slows down, Joshua can obviously exploit his strength advantage more easily, but it will also make it easier for him to set up an opening, and when he times the right uppercut, lands it clean, he will hurt Usyk bad, I think Usyk will have the fitness and survival skill not to get stopped, but will finish the fight on the defensive.

My prediction is Joshua by late UD, I wouldn't be surprised if he got a late or mid stoppage, Usyk's durability will be important. I wouldn't be shocked if Usyk beat Joshua, I think he's better, but not much better, and the difference in level is smaller than the difference in size, and that's why I think Joshua wins.

I think Joshua stays behind his jab and boxes long like he did vs Ruiz in the rematch and Parker to exploit his size/reach advantage, he'll put in a risk averse performance. If there are any rounds that are even somewhat close, no doubt the judges will give them to Joshua. By staying on the move, I don't think Usyk will get caught with too many clean shots, his durability will surprise people and he'll last the whole 12 rounds. It will be a competitive fight, at the final bell some people will think Usyk did enough to win, but the judges will give it unanimously wide to Joshua in the region of 117-111 / 118-110.

I have never been so happy to get a prediction wrong before! WAR USYK

Jarod Killian's picture

So what do I think? I think AJ will win this one hands down. Like I said, unless Usyk can pull off an Andy Ruiz in here there's no fucking way he wins. Then after Wilder KO's Fury in the rubber match, AJ will probably rush to get a match with Wilder and then I don't know where Fury will have to take the back seat for his match with AJ. The way I think this will play out is that Usyk will be very game and give AJ problems and it'll go down the distance were the consensus ringside will be that the fight could go either way blah, blah, blah, then when the judges announce the scorecards it'll be some out there bullshit were it'll be AJ by UD with scorecards of like 118-110, 119-109, and maybe a complimentary scorecard more in tune with reality of 115-113. Basically, what I'm trying to say is that the scorecards for this fight (if the fight were to go that route) have already been filled out. Then AJ will move on and never ever mention the name Usyk again in fact I'm sure the post-fight interviewer will be pulled aside prior to the fight and be instructed upon penalty of death to not ask AJ if an Usyk rematch is a possibility instead asking about how he see Fury-Wilder III playing out and who would he rather fight.

Usyk via late round tko.

It's always great when the excitement begins to build the week leading up to a big fight.

Chris M95's picture

coming into September i had #2 on my p4p list vacant and #3 was Usyk...a victory over Joshua be crazy massive & Usyk would be #2 and the 3rd spot would be vacant

Great fight!! Glad the right man won, I am very feel!!

Guy Incognito's picture

Man I've been away from here for a while. Usyk did great. Joshua was disappointing. I hope there isn't a rematch and that Usyk fights Fury next since he's most likely going to beat Wilder a 3rd time (technically a 2nd time, yes, but we all know who won the 1st fight). I can't wait to see an undisputed heavyweight champion! This is quite an era for this division.

Guy Incognito's picture

Usyk was the busier man throughout the fight. Joshua was way too careful and was very slow in the early rounds. He didn't really start coming forward until we were already a few rounds in. There were some good exchanges in the middle rounds. Usyk had Joshua in the centre of the ring right where he wanted him so he could dance around him and land his fast accurate shots while dodging Joshua's slow and infrequent jabs. Joshua should have used his size and power to bully Usyk a bit more and press him against the ropes, and actually land some meaningful haymakers. Usyk dominated the last rounds and AJ was saved by the bell. Disappointing performance from Joshua. Great work from Usyk. Definitely deserved the decision. Glad to see the judges were fair and accurate. Usyk was also smart to ensure he exchanged with Joshua every time he got hit, and did some flurries at the end of each round to win himself more rounds. Usyk only looked hurt a few times, and Joshua's eye was definitely bothering him towards the end.

Jarod Killian's picture

I take back what I said about Usyk at heavyweight in the past. This was truly a master class performance from him! I really don't see AJ doing any much better in a rematch even if he were to seek out the services of Money May. I guess now goes without saying how will he fare against Tyson Fury. I know it's very premature and I'm not going to entertain picking anyone at this point but let's just say that's the fight I'd like to see at heavyweight right now. Usyk just joined Holyfied in the great pantheon of cruiserweights to make the crossover to heavyweight champion.

Champion97's picture

This was a phenomenal performance from Usyk, he didn't play it safe, his game plan was high risk, but it was effective, he took centre ring and landed clean at the very start, was mentally prepared for Joshua's power and strength, he built his defence into an aggressive strategy, didn't need to make Joshua miss badly, let Joshua just miss in the pocket, and was far more accurate, he dooesn't have the power to stop Joshua, but he hurt him by maximising the power he has with his timing and accuracy. I think Usyk's stance was a big problem for Joshua, especially in the early rounds, he lacked experience against a southpaw, he adapted well in the mid rounds, he'd defended well, he cut off the ring well when Usyk was back peddling, wasn't frustrated by Usyk's accuracy or defence, but the head clash caused severe facial damage, affected his vision, and affected him mentally. Usyk used his footwork to force Joshua to move with him, Joshua forced his punches in the late rounds, and that's why he gassed at the end of the fight. I think Joshua had the wrong game plan, he wasn't ready for Usyk to start aggressively, let Usyk back him up, and looked for accurate jabs, it was a great game plan for Ruiz, but against Usyk, who was never there for the jab, always adjusting his position, the opening was never there, which is why Joshua wasn't busy with the jab, he should have settled for inaccurate jabs that would have at least made Usyk uncomfortable, the right to the body slowed Usyk down in the mid rounds, it was definitely his best shot, but he looked for the lead right hand to the head more often, probably on the basis that southpaws are known for being a target for that shot, and that was a mistake.

Mrideer's picture

Can AJ win the rematch? Who you got in rematch? I interested in your opinion and what tactics can AJ win?

I think he has the potential to beat Usyk, given he'll always have a big size advantage, but if the immediate rematch happens, which is highly likely, I'd lean towards Usyk, I think it would be closer because the first fight gave Joshua the southpaw experience he needed, the eye injury, which was likely caused by a head clash, was definitely a factor, and I think Joshua had the wrong game plan.

I think Joshua's tactics should be to keep Usyk under consistent pressure, I think mental pressure is even more important than physical pressure, it's something he can do, and he didn't do that the first time. I definitely think Joshua should throw the right to the body more often than to the head, he was naive to think Usyk was a target for his lead right hand just because he's a southpaw, if that was the reason he looked for that shot so often, and while he was doing that, he was letting Usyk set up his own shots. Trying to be the counter puncher, letting Usyk get off first, was another mistake, the more jabs Joshua can lead with at long range, the better, he should put speed before accuracy, because even if it doesn't score, takes Usyk's focus, stops him settling into a rhythm.

What do you think?

Thank you!

I think Joshua didn’t want to push, because he was afraid to miss a blow, AJ after the first fight with Ruiz he is afraid. Oleksandr immediately joined the fight so that Joshua was further more constrained and less confident in himself and his chin (after 3rd round). I think in the rematch AJ will do a good job of fixing the bugs and will be able to impose a fight on Usyk. He will hit the body more often, throw more power punches and slightly press down on Usyk. I think rematch will come to the full distance and we will see a close fight this time. Usyk will be a little better, but judges may well give AJ win given that the rematch is likely to take place in UK. AJ has no other way, he needs to agree to a rematch. This will give him a special risk, but AJ is a smart fighter, he knows how to learn from failure. He surprised everyone in the rematch with Ruiz after the crushing defeat, so he can also surprise everyone in the rematch with Usyk, and Rob is a very good coach, I think they know what to do. But Usyk is a favorite in the rematch

I don't think there were any reports of a head clash from either broadcast and the fight was clean throughout. Usyk just couldn't miss with the right jab, he was peppering him all night. It all accumulates. Joshua's nose was bloodied too. Just have to give Usyk credit and pray Joshua can develop better head movement for the rematch.

You can see the head clash occur, it wasn't picked up by the commentary, but I saw it, it's when the sheet of blood appeared below AJ's nose at the end of one of the mid-late rounds. Full credit to Usyk, great win, he's better than AJ, and he proved to be good enough to win despite the size disadvantage, he backed Joshua up, nullified Joshua's use of his size, that's the bottom line.

There was a minor head clash in round 9 near Joshua's left at the 2-minute mark and their heads sort of came together at the one-minute mark at round 10 a little under Joshua's right cheek, the round of which Joshua's right eye really started to swell. But nothing I could see indicated anything other than repeated punches that caused the swelling. I did a quick google search and nobody scoring this round by round picked up on any accidental clash. Neither Hearns nor Joshua who have both reviewed the tapes mentioned anything regarding a headbutt affecting the outcome either.

I thought I saw a head clash at the end of one of the mid or late rounds worsen the swelling, but it was live when I watched it, I might have misinterpreted it, it will bs interesting to watch it again. Moving on from the heads coming together, do you not think Joshua had the wrong game plan? He was clearly looking for accuracy, which is the worst thing to do against Usyk, he could obviously have done more to utilise his size, and he was looking for the right to the head more than to the body, even though the right to the body was working better for him.

For all thoses say'in "AJ wasn't himself" "AJ fought a stupid fight" "AJ was never the same after Ruiz(Usyk would have stopped AJ if he was brazen as he was for Klitschko) "AJ should have imposed himself more"(he didn't impose himself because Usyk took the initiative and rocked him early gaining his respect), etc. I have three words for y'all: Ring. ****ing. Generalship. AJ didn't fight his fight because Usyk didn't allow him to fight his fight. Give Usyk credit, 80-90 percent of all boxing pudents and journalists picked AJ to either stop Usyk, beat him comfortably on points, nulifiy him with his longer reach and purportedly comparable skills ala Lopez-Loma, or at worst win an ugly decision. Usyk is better than Joshua. Period. Fury vs Usyk is the best fight t be made right now, in an ideal world Hearns and Arum can work out an arrangement for AJ to step aside and allow the unification the condition he fights the winner, all contingent of course on Fury getting past Wilder.

I've explained why I think Joshua fought the wrong fight, do you disagree?
