mate Ugas vs Fabian Maidana on the Pacquiao Spence ppv card (Berto turned that fight down) so is Robert Guerrero vs Victor Ortiz
for American fans on Fox prelims Frank Martin & Ray Valenzuela to feature as well opponents in both cases tba
Cody Crowley pulled out of the Maestre card with cvid

Hahahaha they were going to make Ugas vs. Berto? For real? How trash do they think Ugas is? That's an unbelievably bad matchup, TNT Maidana isn't much better but at least that has some intrigue. Who in the world wants to see ancient Berto anymore. Same logic with Guerrero vs. Ortiz as well but at least that isn't for a belt. Incredible.

Gold yup short term replacement opponents are never the best quality fighters you know that Ugas was scheduled to fight Spence before Pac came knocking on Spence door with Berto it’s always MR Haymon stay looking after him
I’d agree with ya on Guerrero Ortiz but In most cases with big time headliners where there isn’t a strong undercard it’s hard not to suspect that the headliners are running away with almost the whole pot and little money to distribute among the rest both Spence and Pacquiao for different reasons and given their individual situations coming into 2021 command to be loved by Mr Haymon pockets...hell that could be why(I suspect) Berto turned down the Ugas fight hoping for more compensation on his return. fight...Ortiz and Guerrero in that context got very very little leverage and at least among certain casual audiences may have the name & expectation of a fire fight among over the hill fun fighters starting of a ppv card...had to slot those guys in somewhere too right
personally I’m more interested in Jamal James vs Butaev and Gary Antwunne Russell vs Mimoune but from a mainstream audience perspective which one of those fights is more sellable than Guerrero Ortiz to warrant replacing that one on the ppv card
Plus in essence both James and Butaev could be potential swing bout or am opponent in case two fighters or one respectively of the main and co main at 147 is forced to pull out

Yeah, I know Berto is the original Al guy, you would just hope they can find a better short-term opponent than that. As I said no one wants to see it and no one thinks it would be competitive. Guerrero vs. Ortiz isn't as bad but in my opinion, they should have at least one decent title fight on the undercard, not how it goes often nowadays as you said. James vs. Butaev will be good, I think that Gary will wash Mimoune, that Gary is likely just a matter of time to get to the top though.

That's a disappointing one, and it makes no sense, when PBC has so many at 147. Ugas is very good, but time is against him, I know the WBA switched him to super champion, but obviously there are big fights to be made.

I honestly think PBC put it in to have Ugas elevated and Pacquiao stripped thinking the Pacquiao vs. Mikey or Pacquiao vs. Crawford fight would happen, but then after Pacquiao was stripped he went back to the Spence fight and then they couldn't undo it. How is it possible that he was stripped before Leo Santa Cruz who hasn't fought in much longer who also has fought in a different division? You would think something like Ugas vs. James rematch would be more interesting to them, in house rematch and James has been on a big winning streak. I guess not though.

That seems very plausible, the WBA are trying to make as much money as they can rather than be reasonable, but switching the belts twice between fights would be bold to say the least.

should've had Kell Brook vs Amir Khan at that point too

totally fair Gold can’t disagree with none of your points in this climate tho I’d be content if the fight doesn’t fall through or some last shit Paradigm sports media is setting up a motion to stop this fight in the latest saga and Pacquiao would be suing them as per Dan Rafael
In other news Eddie Reynoso, Canelo and team flexing lead to them in essence turning down their highest guarantee purse for a single fight deal (put up entirely by the PBC side) (plus Canelo securing the A side privilege where he’s the only one getting a rematch clause activated if losing) plus demanded A side ppv upside plus Mexican tv rights and a 20X20 ring inside the ropes which Canelo couldn’t secure in his last fight and an estimated 5-8 Million USD from Hennessy (sponsor of Canelo own choicing to which the PBC side agreed to) in completion of an event on Mexican Independence Day with Hennessy being the main official sponsor for the whole event
crying shame when both fighters Canelo and Caleb were always keen on fighting each other and with neither eve turning this fight down
both guys knowing the other stands in their way of achieving their goal of Undisputed

I thought the Paradigm lawsuit was just about the money rather than trying to block the fight? I could be wrong, haven't looked into it but it looks good thus far.
I saw that, I understand why both Canelo's side and PBC's side wouldn't want it the other way. Canelo will always want to book Cinco de Mayo and Mexican Independence Day, it's a revenue loser for him not to fight on those dates. The Plant fight for me does little, but the Bivol fight will be worse if he has Bivol coming down to a catchweight. I can't see the styles meshing well between Canelo and Bivol either. I think Plant may have missed the boat with Canelo, maybe the best bet now is to face Jermall.
