Paul Williams vs. Sergio Martinez I
Fight Notes: Benoist's egregious 119-110 scorecard was the only downer after this magnificent fight. Martinez was a late replacement for Kelly Pavlik, who pulled out due to a staph infection. Even in losing--albeit debateably--Martinez's valiant effort earned him a spot in The Ring's Pound-For-Pound Top Ten List. |

Re: Paul Williams vs. Sergio Martinez I
What a truly great fight this was, you know Sergio Martinez is worthy of so much respect from every boxing fan out there for very good reasons. I think that Paul Williams boxed out of his skin and produced the performance of his life and even though I thought he narrowly lost to Martinez by a point I do think that a fair case could be made for him winning. Julie Lederman was very fair with her scorecard, Lynne Carter was also fair in believing that Williams landed enough on Sergio to get the verdict. 119-110 is a disgusting scorecard and that pathetic excuse for a judge should have been forced to watch the fight again and there should have been a full investigation on behalf of the robbed, cruelty treated warrior that is Sergio Martinez.
Now in 2014 I think that Sergio Martinez should retire, he has constant injuries that come and go, also come on, he has nothing to prove. There were 3 very highly rated British middleweights called Matthew Macklin, Darren Barker and Martin Murray. All 3 of these argued amoungst each other about who was the best but they all shared in common the fact that they had all been beaten by Sergio Martinez, Barker and Macklin stopped in the 11th and Murray beaten controversially on a UD, mind you it was fair in a way because Martinez fought injured and it was only knockdown robbery not round robbery. I think that Miguel Cotto showed that all great champions need to retire, I believe that some thing happen for a reason and much like Larry Holmes showed in Ali in their brutal fight. Paul Williams is also past his prime but I do think that he still gets treated unfairly about the whole Lara fight, although I thought Lara outboxed Williams overall and won by 3 points I do think that it wasn't unquestionable.

Can't believe I don't have a scorecard for this one yet.
