Re: Miguel Cotto vs. Saul Alvarez
Prediction,
I can't wait for this one, I think both these guys will give it their all, I think both guys will come in with he right tactics, but I believe Miguel Cotto will win the fight. I think Miguel's game plan will be to nullify Canelo's game plan, it is very important that Cotto's uses his lateral movement, and keeps out of reach of Alvarez early on, I'm sure Canelo is much more comfortable with the weight situation, but Miguel is perfectly aware of this, and who better to help him work around it than Freddie Roach?, Canelo will put pressure on Cotto as he uses his defiantly superior physical strength, but I don't think he fast enough to find much accuracy, I think Cotto must keep active if he is going to win, he must keel composed, he must be patient, these are all things I think he has learned to do over the years. As for how I believe the fight will play out I believe that it will go the distance, I think that the scorecards will be 116-112, 116-112 and 115-113, all for Miguel Cotto as he wins a unanimous decision in a close, epic battle against a great fighter. I think Miguel will start the fight well as he wins the first round decisively, Canelo will really impress as he unloads in rounds 2 and 3, but Miguel will keep up the good work and these will be tight rounds, I think Canelo will dominate in round 4, Miguel will dominate in round 5, round 6 will be dominated by Miguel for the most part until he is rocked, close round, I think rounds 7-9 will be extremely close, wafer thin, great, disputed rounds, I think Canelo will be very dominant in round 10 as he seems to steal the fight from Miguel, I think he will put a brutal beating on Cotto in a very one sided round, so one sided a stoppage would not look ridiculous, I think this round will do damage on both sides as Cotto is worn down by punches, but Canelo becomes more fatigued from his work rate and effort, I think round 11 will be the best of the fight as they both fight their souls out in a very close session, I think Alvarez will give it everything, gamble with a KO attempt, and Cotto will be the only one with anything left in the tank, I think Cotto will dominate the final round and hurt Canelo to the get a unanimous decision victory.
I still think both these guys would beat Gennady Golovkin, and I think this fight will do only good for Canelo's reputation, I think there will be those out there who will say Canelo beat Cotto, but I think the majority will favour Miguel.

I'll take that bet champ, Alvarez by UD. If we ever meet in person I'll give you five pounds lol. This will be a good fight.

Re: Miguel Cotto vs. Saul Alvarez
Truthfully I think this will be a close fight and I can see it being around 115-113 for Alvarez. I don't have any real evidence or analysis to give it is like gut instinct (not trying to offend fans of Pacquaio but it was like how we all secretly knew deep down that Mayweather was going to edge a decision but obviously got a wider margin due to pacman's soldier injury).

Re: Miguel Cotto vs. Saul Alvarez
I actually genuinely believed that Manny would beat him, but I was wrong, I would predict Floyd to win a fairly close rematch, but I was not impressed with his performance against Berto, and I think his career really has come to an end.

Yeah?, wise words Jonny, wise words. Take it his performance against Mayweather is what changed your mind. And I read your other comment, I must say I'm very surprised about your Maywaeather vs Maidana 2 scorecard, but I get it, there were a lot of close rounds, and when you score it round by round, you can have scorecards that differ to others, and I'm sure you will agree that it was not a boxing lesson, I personally believe Maidana did what nobody else could against Mayweather.

Yeah it was his performance against Mayweather lol.
I think if anyone has Floyd's "number" or has the style that really, to be perfectly honest pisses off Floyd it is Maidana. Jose Luis is the close second.

Re: Miguel Cotto vs. Saul Alvarez
It's simply not possible to predict the outcome of this fight. Such fact adds a delightful thrill to this bout. Earlier, I would have picked Canelo to beat Cotto and retire him. Then I started to watch Canelo training, and I realized there is so much Cotto can do to win this fight.
Canelo is seriously slow compared to Cotto. Cotto is a multidimensional and smart fighter who can do whatever is necessary to counter Canelo's offense. Canelo packs a mean punch, but he will struggle to find Cotto. Cotto is not as fast as before, but still faster than Canelo. But if Cotto is forced to exchange, I think he might be in a lot of trouble.

Wow....thrilling fight. It went as expected. Cotto boxed and landed a commanding jab through the whole fight. Canelo missed most of the punches, but he was landing the cleaner and harder punches. I think Cotto was the one who took the lead of the fight.

WTF!?!?!?!??!? UD for Canelo!? 119-109?...I would have been ok with a split decision since some rounds were close...but the scores are crazy. Fake champion.

So this is what happens when you don't pay the WBC the sanctioning fees...mmmh ok...now...I wonder if Canelo will actually face GGG. I believe he will not. GGG is too much of a risk for a low reward.

Re: Miguel Cotto vs. Saul Alvarez
I felt the announce team gave Cotto no credit whatsoever. The first half belonged to Cotto in my eyes. His shots were clearly pushing Canelo back but the announce team ignored all of this. I did however feel that Canelo picked up the fight in the second half and was landing the more flush shots. My connection feed froze for the last 40 seconds of round12, so if I can re-watch that round I will. Up until the freeze point I thought Canelo was definitely winning that round though.

Re: Miguel Cotto vs. Saul Alvarez
No problem with you, your card is fine, it was a close fight, but it was just that, a close fight, and people are acting like it was a defiant victory for Canelo, ridiculous, some joker has even created bogus statistics, Canelo did NOT out land Cotto, that is an absolute fact, land the more telling and as you said flush shots, yes, push back a man 20lbs lighter than him and land the heavier shots, yes, but land more, no.

Re: Miguel Cotto vs. Saul Alvarez
Boy this is not the first time that Canelo got extremelly generous scorecards. smh. I am along the lines of narrow win by Alvarez. Biggest robbery I've seen no, but I can understand opinions of Cotto fans. with the scores something smells fishy

Re: Miguel Cotto vs. Saul Alvarez
My card could easily be wrong. This fight has quite a few debateable round. about 7 or 8 of the rounds are very debateable. This is 4th time that there have been atleast one judge give Canelo ridicoulous score (trout, mayweather cj ross, lara, cotto) Oscar, although recipiant of a few robberies later on, got similar treatment in his early days. Whitaker fight, 1 judge thought Oscar beat Quartey by way too much. Favoritism rules again! smh

Re: Miguel Cotto vs. Saul Alvarez
I am going to have to gather my thoughts and emotions. watch it on replay next weekend on HBO, on the couch with a sharpie and paper, and do my best.
I feel really bad for Cotto. His career in a nutshell is he has beaten alot of fighters with decent names but none of them I would really consider to be super high level or superstars at the time of the fight. has lost to Pac May and now Canelo. Other were to Marg which was just a mugging that was contreversial but still a tough fight to lose. Then a letdown loss to Trout after Mayweather. When you consider how much Marg fell off after that (got thrashed by Mosely and Pac beforehand) his last real high profile victory is hard to point out..
So, where Cotto goes from here is tough. I know he wants to get a good win to prove his improvement and get this taste out of his mouth. I don't think there will be a rematch but one asap is what I would like to see, even though I like GGG. it seemed like Cotto, if he won this, was possibly going to fight GGG. Gennady was rooting for Cotto. So I would definately suggest he fights at 154 and here is the latest 154 lbs. rankings http://ringtv.craveonline.com/ratings/jr-middleweight My eyes don't see alot of fights there that are desireable for Cotto to do at this point.

Re: Miguel Cotto vs. Saul Alvarez
GGG would be glad to fight either. But Cotto likely would of accepted the fight immediatley and I bet Canelo stalls it out.
That's the way the sport works. Cotto perhaps got a little bit too cute or better said didn't throw enough heavy leather as he could have but I am not him. Punch stats do not fuking matter to judges and that is something that I never really care fore either. Every punch is not created equal. I think I have said it on here before. when you get to big prize fights the judges sometimes look more for the guy who has a damaging style or a "hurt and don't get hurt" aura.

Re: Miguel Cotto vs. Saul Alvarez
Well, I think a fight like this is won on who does best with landing leather and Canelo did that. The rules, regulations, and scoring of fights imo is very fair and I don't care for excuses. This fight is over. Now on to the future. I can't imagine there being a rematch. Cotto needs to go down to 154 for one thing. This fight really failed everyones *realistic expectations also. to elaborate on that I was acutally more pleased with the may pac fight (regarding my expectaitons). This fight promoised way too much and didn't hit home with it. Bad fight no, good fight, not really... Alvarez wil dodge Golovkin it seems and we will find out before Christmas.
