Prediction.

Smith has fought at the higher level, but Fowler has more momentum, has improved, and I think Smith has started to decline. Fowler is the better boxer on the outside, is faster in hand and foot, is a better combination puncher. Smith is definitely the better inside fighter, the better body puncher, the better pressure fighter, and he has a better chin. Both fighters can fight at mid range, both have good variety, neither are defensively great, Smith is reliant on his guard, should be an easy target whenever he takes a backward step and Fowler throws a combination, but Fowler is easy to counter when he opens up, and doesn't have much tactical discipline. The fighter who gets off first more often is likely to win, Smith can have success by jabbing his way in and letting the shots go as he closes the gap, he can cut off the ring well enough to make it hard for Fowler to sidestep, and Fowler is more vulnerable if he punches with Smith. Fowler can have success if he can lead with his jab and back Smith up with a combination, before Smith can cut the distance.

I think Fowler will be busy with his jab in the early rounds, Smith will take time to cut the distance, and Fowler will out work Smith, but will be under some pressure even from the start. I think Fowler will throw more power shots in the mid rounds, throw a lot of combinations, but will be under more pressure, Smith will have some success, will cut off the ring well, Fowler will pivot, but Smith will reset, will be consistent with his pressure. I think Smith will rally in the late rounds, the momentum will be on his side, Fowler will have to fight in the pocket, and will take more damage, but Smith will be too far behind.

I think this will be a fight with 2 halves, Fowler will have a good start, and that will be the difference. I think Fowler by UD, I'd be surprised if he stopped Smith, I wouldn't be surprised if Smith won by decision or stoppage.

Fowler stops the experienced contender in Liam SMith...a healthy & "focused" Ammo Williams beats both
good to see Ammo dealing with his issues better and back in the ring well with Kevin Cunningham...personal management skills of Mr Cunningham and his experience handling 'troubled youths' boxers would work wonders for Ammo from here on out i feel

Great performance from Smith. He proved a lot of doubters wrong. Fowler couldn't handle that front foot pressure.

I've always liked Smith, and he did good here.

Chris M95's picture

inspiring fight from Smith, world class conditioning, defense on front foot and chin vs an upper domestic level fighter where the gulf in class became more pronounced as the rounds went on...totally impressed by how SMith controlled range, probed with feints and his front foot game in the 4th stanza especially deserves credit

SMith vs Jessie Vargas Feb 5th in Vegas on a night where Ramirez could be facing Pedraza in Fresno really like how the early calendar of 2022 is shaping up with Thurman vs Barrios Jan 29th Vegas a week after Gary Russell Jr vs Magsayo which could see 122 #1 WBC and WBO Daniel Roman return too
