Re: Katie Taylor vs Amanda Serrano
Prediction.
Both are veterans, they have learned and come up different ways, Serrano has had double the professional fights Taylor has had, but her amateur background doesn't compare to Taylor's, which is least partly the reason their styles are so different. Taylor has more speed in hand and foot, but there is no comparison for power. Taylor has the better fundamentals, and is a better boxer on the outside, but Serrano is the better inside fighter. Both fighters have great footwork, but they use their feet for different purposes, Serrano is a solid pressure fighter, cuts off the ring very well, Taylor's feet are her best defence, she's never static, it's very hard for her opponent to judge the distance because she's so nimble. Both fighters are old, both are disciplined professionals, neither have a lot miles, but Taylor is slightly older, and I think age decline is worse for her style overall than for Serrano's because she's more reliant on agility. Who is defensively better is interesting, Taylor moves well and blocks well at long range, even when her opponent throws a cluster of punches, but Serrano defends far better in the pocket, she doesn't take punishment in exchanges, but when Taylor opens up and engages with her opponent, she often comes off worse, and has to get back to throwing a combination and moving off. Serrano has better variety than Taylor, and is the better body puncher, she's better at breaking her opponent down strategically. Taylor has better reflexes and timing than Serrano, and at a low tempo, it's her fight.
I think the early rounds will be tentative, Taylor will move in and out of range, Serrano will look to step in and land the left to the body. I think Taylor will let her hands go first, her speed will be the difference, but after a couple of rounds, Serrano will start to cut her off, her timing will improve, and she will catch Taylor as she's pulling back. I think Serrano will come on strong in the mid rounds, will get the better of the exchanges by beating Taylor to the punch, her punch selection and variety will be important, she will do damage, and will start to walk Taylor down. I think Taylor will come on in the late rounds, she won't be static on the ropes, will move off the ropes more often as Serrano continues to walk her down, and will throw in high volume under pressure, but Serrano will be comfortable punching with her, and will still come off best in most exchanges.
My prediction is Serrano by UD, I wouldn't be surprised if Taylor won.

Re: Katie Taylor vs Amanda Serrano
Still unsure who will win this fight personally- do you think Persoon is better than Serrano?

Re: Katie Taylor vs Amanda Serrano
It's a tough call. No I don't, Persoon's output is very high, she can fight on the inside, and her basics are good, but Serrano is the more methodical fighter, she hits harder, has better timing, and will be technically harder for Taylor to out box. What do you think?

Very hard to say hence i asked for your opinion regarding who is bettee between persoon and serrano. Having watched more of serrano’s fights just now, id say she is a bit better and a tougher test for Taylor than Persoon

Re: Katie Taylor vs Amanda Serrano
Great performance from Taylor, she made a big mistake in round 5, chose to stay in the pocket against Serrano after establishing her ability to use the ring and make it about speed and agility, she was hurt bad, but she went back to boxing on the outside, throwing combinations and using consistent lateral movement. Serrano struggled to cut Taylor off, her timing was great, she negated Taylor's jab with her positioning, she took full advantage when Taylor obliged her, but struggled to build on it when Taylor went back to fighting Taylor's fight after being hurt, she couldn't keep Taylor under sustained pressure, she dealt well mentally with Taylor's mobility and speed in the late rounds, was always ready to exploit Taylor's mistakes, and she hurt her in the closing seconds of the fight, but she couldn't stop the movement of Taylor, was never able to cut her off consistently, and couldn't punch with her when Taylor didn't over commit offensively. I think Taylor could have got a wide win if she hadn't fought Serrano's fight in round 5, she pulled out the best win of her career, and to show the ability to fairly comfortably beat Serrano, with her age disadvantage, was phenomenal.

Re: Katie Taylor vs Amanda Serrano
Looks like people are split as to whether round 5 was a 10-8 round.
