Prediction.

Pedraza has been far more active, he hasn't fought in 9 months, there isn't much in it for fight count, but Pedraza did more rounds last year than Rodriguez has done since 2017. Pedraza has fought at the far higher level, has been 12 rounds many times, Rodriguez hasn't been past 8, Rodriguez has a good amateur background, but so does Pedraza, and Rodriguez's opposition has been poor as a professional. Rodriguez is big at 140, Pedraza is not, Rodriguez should be the stronger fighter, but Pedraza has boxed great at 140 in his last 2 fights, I don't think size was much of a problem against Zepeda. Both fighters are switch hitters, which makes them very hard to prepare for, but that favours Pedraza, he has fought a lot of southpaws, but if he comes out southpaw, that's bad for Rodriguez, he hasn't done a full round against a southpaw since 2014. Pedraza has much faster feet, and a better jab, I think Rodriguez has the slightly faster hands, but Pedraza is a better boxer on the outside, he's defensively better, but Rodriguez is offensively better, is a solid body puncher, is a better inside fighter than Pedraza, and he definitely hits harder at 140. Pedraza's movement is great, but Rodriguez can cut off the ring, how he deals with Pedraza's movement will be very important in this fight.

I think Pedraza will out jab Rodriguez in the early rounds, Rodriguez will be behind with the feet, Pedraza will see his shots coming, and he'll land the left hand at long range, the left to the body will be his most damaging shot. I think Rodriguez will do better in the mid rounds, as he's able to cut off the ring, I don't think he'll be able to stop the movement of Pedraza, but I think he'll slow it down, and he'll get the better of Pedraza whenever he can cut the distance, he'll do damage to the body, but I think Pedraza will block well, will keep stepping to the side and making Rodriguez have to reset, and Rodriguez will punch himself out. I think Rodriguez will slow down in the late rounds, he won't be able to apply as much pressure, and Pedraza will go back to picking him off on the outside.

I wouldn't be surprised if Rodriguez won by stoppage or decision, he's a talented fighter, I'd be surprised if Pedraza got a stoppage, I think this will be a great learning fight for Rodriguez, but I think Pedraza's experience at a higher level is the main difference, and he'll win a UD.

Champion97's picture

Great performance from Pedraza, I think he's still in his prime, is strong enough at 140, he was massive at 130, his experience was the main difference in this fight, was a step ahead of Rodriguez, his pacing was better, did good work without putting too much into his shots, his jab was great, he took a lot more out of Rodriguez than himself by landing the jab. Rodriguez couldn't deal with Pedraza's agility, he couldn't cut off the ring, he did some good work to the body, but he didn't have the timing or accuracy to hurt Pedraza to the body, Pedraza's defence was great, and Rodriguez didn't have an answer for Pedraza's combinations. Rodriguez was unfortunate with the swelling on the eyes, I think that was a combination of him being prone to swelling, and the speed of Pedraza, but I think he was gassing, he was going into unfamiliar territory, had struggled to keep up with the movement of Pedraza, had taken a lot more clean shots than Pedraza, and had missed a lot more shots, the late rounds definitely favoured Pedraza.
