Clean sweep for Joe.

Boxing Purist's picture

For the first 2 frames Pastor looked to do little but move and survive, hopping this way and that like a jackrabbit. First session little was accomplished from either but Joe was the aggressor. Frame 2 Louis landed a good right and a good left hook, and caught Pastor leaping in a couple times as well. Pastor in this session looked to employ the old leap, slap, land, hold on for dear life method. Though the crowd may have loved it, Joe won the session with the significant blows landed, and controlling the center of the ring.

Stage 3 Joe wins with a couple left hooks and a right as Pastor tries the slap tactics from the second stanza. Session 4 Pastor is even darting 5 feet away, this way and that from Joe's jab, it's hard not to say young Pastor is flat out running from the bigger by 25 pounds Louis. A big right and a 1-2 that staggers Pastor wins Louis the round.

Session 5, more of the same, Pastor looking to move, Joe winning with the couple of decent shots that were landed in the round that he was able to touch Pastor with, and the crowd is finally starting to boo Pastor for his startegy. Round 6, the booing from round 5 has done some good because Pastor not as fleet footed looks to land a little this round. The first real exchange of the fight and Joe staggers Pastor who was trying to get some licks in. Joe after 6 rounds is winning 6-0 to my eye, based on controlling the center of the ring, and landing the only effective shots in the fight.

Session 7, Joe lands a good right hand early to carry the round that's mainly just more of Pastor's leaping in, grabbing, and trying to slap score or steal rounds by looking like he's doing work. Which no one is buying but the crowd and he's back on his bike again in high gear this time. Round 8, Louis tries to catch Bob and hold him still so he can catch him with a uppercut to no avail, but Louis does step forward and connect with a 1-2 that sends Pastor reeling back into the ropes, and good enough to win the frame to my eye. A couple jabs seal the round along with a long sneaking right towards the end of the round.

Session 9, Pastor is literally dancing around Louis until the crowd grows restless againand Joe steps in this time and finally lets go with 2 vicious body shots which he should have done from the beginning to slow Pastor down. A good idea now to win the round, but a bit to late in the fight for them to pay off unless he can score a KO from one. A jab for Louis lands, he misses with a right cross, and Pastor bends forward and looks to be trying what can only be described as a single leg takedown. Another vicious uppercut lands and a jab which easily wins another round for Joe.

Final round, and more of the same. Pastor dancing around, Joe stalking his prey, waiting patiently for Bob to leap in so he can land his couple of clean shots to secure the shutout. Pastor gets brave and leaps n lunges in with a wild left hook that just misses. Joe stalks and stalks and finally cuts the ring off, and lands successive big right hands that send pastor reeling across the ring, trying to regain his balance while staying on his feet. Little else of note is done by either man, Pastor takes a final couple laps around the ring on his bike and that's it.

Pastor throws his hands in the air at the final bell, jumps onto the second ropes in the corner celebrating for what I can only assume is surviving to the final bell against the feared Joe Louis, without being seperated from his senses. Easy fight to score, Pastor did little to nothing of substance, Louis was able to do a little more than that in every round. Not either fighters finest performance.
