Re: Jarrett Hurd vs Julian Williams
Prediction,
Hurd should be the favourite, he is the champion, he is unbeaten, he has the Lara win, has wins over Harrison and Trout, but this is a good match up. Hurd can't afford to make the same mistake Jermell Charlo made against Tony Harrison, and underestimate his opponent.
Williams is decent, he lost to Charlo, got knocked out cold with that great uppercut, but he is on a wining streak, has only one loss. Hurd has proven he is a good world level fighter, beating Harrison, Trout, and Lara, he isn't the best defensive fighter, has flaws, and he isn't a devastating puncher, but he is a great athlete, makes the weight, but is very big, has the strength, is a great pressure fighter, is a good body puncher, has output, stamina. I think Hurd is far from unbeatable, but I think he is the best fighter at 154, as long as he doesn't overlook Williams, he should win this.
I think Williams will box well in the early rounds, he will find the target, might out box Hurd and frustrate him if he can control the distance, but he won't be able to hurt Hurd, Hurd will be patient, make him work, walk through his shots, get closer and throw more shots as the rounds go on, and in the late rounds, he will stop Williams, probably won't get a devastating one punch KO, but will break down his opponent, be relentless, have enough power to hurt Williams, and he'll stop him, maybe in 10.

Re: Jarrett Hurd vs Julian Williams
What a stinker from Hurd! Hurd was very poor, obviously underestimated Williams, I think he was weight drained, which would explain a lot, but Hurd has proved he is a lot better than we saw in this fight. Great performance by Williams, he's an underrated boxer, got good skills, bit of power, great athlete, and he fought a great fight, deserves to be the champion.
I thought this was an absolute landslide, I think 112-115 is a bad one, 111-116 is generous to Hurd, that was a one sided fight, competitive, entertaining, but one sided.
If the weight was the problem, Hurd should move up to 160, he looks like a natural super middleweight, if he isn't he's a massive natural middleweight, wouldn't be small at 168, making 154 must be hell, and it will only get harder, cost him more in fights, so if the weight was a problem, he should forget the rematch, move up 160.
This was a bit like Charlo vs Harrison, Williams might have been better than Harrison, and Charlo wasn't as poor as Hurd, but it is a similar situation, the hunter becoming the hunted, a challenger getting overlooked.

Re: Jarrett Hurd vs Julian Williams
I disagree on Hurd's performance, I thought he fought the fight he normally does but didn't make enough adjustments to turn the tide. It wasn't a poor performance from him in my opinion, I just think J Rock is that good!
Williams came with a gameplan and executed it extremely well. Williams was a superior inside fighter and didn't let Hurd back him up. I think these two are the two best at 154 with Charlo a close 3rd. This was one of the two best PBC fights this year (along with Peterson vs Lipinets)
Also from what I heard J Rock was the one with trouble making weight before this fight. Although it seems insane Hurd can make 154 with his size he says he makes weight "easy". I don't think Hurd would fare to well if he moves up
Very cool to see Breadman Stephen Edwards - J Rock's trainer get a world title win here. He does a great q&a for boxingscene every week that I try to read. The guy is very knowledgeable and his predictions are nearly always right. Champ your write ups before fights and his mailbag q&a is usually what I read to stay informed on boxing. Thanks man

Re: Jarrett Hurd vs Julian Williams
Well we'll see how good J Rock is, he's the champion now.
Don't dispute that, he boxed very well, had the hunger of a challenger, but was calm, didn't get reckless. I still need to see that fight, but I didn't think Hurd vs Williams was as good as people say, too one sided in my opinion, good fight, but not the best, I thought Thurman vs Lopez was better.
I disagree on that, Hurd cannot be a natural light middleweight, is a big middleweight if not a natural super middleweight. I think Hurd will stay at 154, he knows he over looked Williams, knows he can do better than he did, the rematch will probably happen, but I think Hurd should go to 160, but that is assuming I'm right about him being weight drained, which we don't know, so it is a decision for Hurd and his team.
Thanks pal!

Re: Jarrett Hurd vs Julian Williams
Yea, thurman vs Lopez was very good too. Right now Doheney vs Roman is my FOTY overall
I really liked this fight though. When a smaller fighter outboxes the champ and carries out their gameplan it's always enjoyable.
And I only say he won't go up to 160 because I can't imagine him matching the power of a Canelo, Golovkin, etc. I don't see Hurd as someone who could take their power also, he's getting so badly punished when he keeps battling on the inside for fights like these. Time to actually put a strategy in action instead of just banking on his opponent tiring from his strength.

Re: Jarrett Hurd vs Julian Williams
btw the pbc announcers were biased as hell for this fight. I actually think this is one of the few times the commentary made me second guess and slightly alter my scorecard.
I had williams up wide but felt pressured to find a round to give hurd
