Prediction: Russell UD

Prediction.

Timing favours Magsayo heavily, he's young, Russell is old, he hasn't taken much damage, seems to live the life, but he'll have started to decline, and making 126 will be tougher, Russell hasn't fought in 2 years, it's the longest layoff of his career, Magsayo has had 3 fights since Russell's last fight, his last fight was a good learning fight, he was behind, took a lot of punishment, not only got through adversity and won, but made statement with a great KO, and against a good opponent. The momentum is with Magsayo, he might have a mental edge, but Russell has the extra experience, is still the far faster fighter, has the better footwork, is defensively better, and can out box Magsayo for the duration of a round, but Russell can be countered, is a target for the right hand, Magsayo's timing is great, he can set up a potential KO well enough to be a threat to Russell's defence. I don't think Magsayo has the footwork to apply educated pressure against Russell, Russell can move comfortably on the defensive, and Magsayo is reliant on Russell taking risks, but the question is if Russell can use his speed and footwork to land without getting countered. Magsayo still has a lot to prove, he has shown a lot of flaws, the Ceja win could be partly down to Ceja's vulnerability, and apart from that fight, I don't think he's been particularly impressive.

I think Russell will get off first, but Magsayo won't be deterred by his speed, won't back up, and Russell will hold back with the left hand, he will be wary of Magsayo's right hand, but Russell will get his jab off fairly easily. I don't think Russell will be under any pressure when he's on the defensive, but when he's briefly on the attack, he will be countered, will have to respect Magsayo's power, which will put him under pressure, make him react defensively and make him miss some openings. I think Magsayo will do damage when he lands clean with the counter right hand, but he won't be able to capitalise, and Russell will be more confident as he adapts to the threat of Magsayo's right hand, will adjust his angle as he comes in, will throw 2 and 3 shot combinations and make adjustments with his feet, and Magsayo will take so long to reset, that he'll he neutralised.

I think Russell wins a UD, I think it will be competitive, the age and activity factors give Magsayo a better shot, I wouldn't be surprised if he won, but I think Russell's speed and overall skills are enough to win.
