Too bad about the Lomachenko cheerleading on the ESPN broadcast, disappointing for a good, tough, and competitive fight. This was Lomachenko's best win in my opinion, Linares proved to be a worthy opponent and test for him. Hopefully, Arum and Haymon can play nice together and have an undisputed Lightweight title bout in early 2019, I think Mikey can take him. I think Lomachenko is capped out at 135 lbs as well, Linares looked huge compared to him in the ring.

Lomachenko do better than you thought he would?

Gold's picture

He did slightly worse than I thought he would for most of the fight, however, I think that was mostly because Linares did better than I thought he would. In the end, he stopped Linares which I didn't think he could do so perhaps he did slightly better than I thought he would overall. I think it raised the stock of both guys honestly.

Well for Linares, he can really go out on a high, for Lomachenko, it is another really good victory, this time weight was against him, so no excuses. I thought Lomachenko showed a lot of adaptability in this fight, you can't prove to be adaptable unless you are challanged, and when was the last time Lomachenko was challenged?, Lomachenko proved something else in this fight, as well as displaying the attributes he usually shows us, I have him ranked number two, still, but nobody can complain about him being ranked top. I think this year, it would be great to see Mikey and Loma, win another belt each, and then fight next year. I think because people considered Lomachenko classes above Mikey and Crawford, getting really carried away, him struggling against Linares, getting dropped, might add to the hype of Garcia vs Lomachenko, because it will be seen more as a really interesting 50/50 fight, which it is just like Lomachenko vs Crawford would be if that would work weight wise, which it obviously wouldn't.

I don't think Linares is going to retire, but yeah I agree this would be a good fight for him to go out on. I agree he did have to adapt and he was pushed by Linares which is great, this is the first time we have seen him really challenged since Salido. I actually don't think him being dropped is that big of a deal, it was a really good shot with great placement by Linares. I just think that moving up and fighting physical guys who have a good technical base like Prograis would be bad news because they will punch a lot harder than Linares. It will definitely add to the hype though for Mikey vs. Loma which I think is one of the best fights that can possibly be made in boxing today, it will certainly be seen as a close and competitive matchup. Garcia and Crawford are really similar fighters (with respect to their size difference), perhaps Garcia is a little better technically and Crawford is a little better athletically. What do you think about Mikey Garcia vs. Robert Easter Jr?

Great! I am going to have to do some research on Selby vs. Warrington and I'm not really sure on Russell vs. Diaz. Will be tough to keep first.

If you look at the scoreboard, you see the points are very close, but at the moment, you are just in front.

I agree on that being one of the biggest fights in boxing!
I don't think it is a really hard fight for Garcia, Easter is decent, he is very tall, but I don't think he is better than Broner and Lipinets, and Garcia is better at 135 than at 140, that, we know. Easter is a champion in his own right, but I was not impressed by his performance against Fortuna, and even though he would be probably better agaisnt Garcia, I still see Mikey dominating and stopping him, you?

Gold's picture

Agreed entirely, I think Easter is ripe for the picking but it certainly isn't a bad fight for Garcia to take.
