Joe Louis finally finds himself against another all-time great in Jersey Joe Walcott. Walcott gave him a thorough beating and Louis was hurt when he was knocked down in rds 1 and 4. Louis worked behind the jab for most of the fight while Walcott used his movement. Joe Louis clearly lost the fight and it was a ROBBERY. However, the fight previous to this which is not on this site was a pretty good win for Louis. Tami Mauriello was a good HW that was a KO1 win for Louis. Louis' title run has been awful. Truly unworthy opponents with better ones not getting a shot. This was a great fight and a good win for Walcott.

I have still never actually been able to see this fight in its entirety. If you know where it can be found, I would love to watch it. Of course, I have heard much about it.

By the way, there are other Joe Louis fights from his title reign which you can add on here. For instance, his victory in March of 1940 over Johnny Paychek is readily available online and has a page here on Eye on the Ring.

Thank you for the heads up. I will check it out now. Looking back on my comment I was probably a little harsh on Louis. He had some really good defenses mixed in with some bad ones. I cannot remember where I found this one. I have some boxing DVDs that I have gathered as well as YouTube. It was on one of them. I will try to find it.
