R1- The jab of Charlo gets through Castaño’s guard right away. Charlo finds a home for his left hook to both the head and body quickly, and it was clear by this round he was more interested in going to the body than he was in the first fight. Clean counter punching and swift in and out movement allow him to win the exchanges that Castaño draws out.

R2- Castaño rushes forward after taking a right to the body, but Charlo throws a flurry and moves away. Though Castaño’s guard is catching some shots from Charlo’s combination punching, Charlo is still getting shots in and keeping Castaño from getting in range or his own offense going. Charlo is using head movement and clinching to nullify Castaño’s offense, and is able to land shots through the guard and over the top when up close. Castaño gets in some eye-catching shots, like a left hook at the bell, but Charlo dictated the pace and action for sure.

R3- Charlo is busy with the jab, creating distance even when it isn’t landing and following up his combinations with it at times. The movement of Charlo is allowing him to make Castaño miss over and over again, and he keeps him walking into right handed counters throughout, finding a home for the uppercut already. Castaño has success in the exchanges, but Charlo is still being the boss.

R4- The high guard of Castaño is coming in clutch more this round. Charlo does catch him coming in with shots at times, but Castaño is timing him better now and asserting himself more in the exchanges, including a really fierce and competitive one that takes place early. Charlo does some rolling along the ropes, only for Castaño to keep up. The left hook and body work of Castaño get home more in this round. A long, monumental exchange closes out the round. Charlo gets the edge by buckling Castaño twice with left hooks, but I felt Castaño was more accurate and responsible overall in the round. I can very well see someone having a four-round shutout for Charlo at this point.

R5- Whenever Castaño tries to tie up, Charlo blasts him to the body. Castaño gets up close early, just for Charlo to back off with a left hook-right hand combo. The counter left hook is stopping Castaño in his tracks when it lands. Charlo utilizes some good head movement, slipping and blocking most of a couple of volleys from Castaño, landing a nice 3-2-3 combo in response to the second of which. A right uppercut dazes Castaño, and a 2-1 gets him going backwards. Some more jabs and right hands get through the guard, but Castaño takes it well before landing a 1-2 at the bell. More fireworks, and super sharp stuff from Jermell.

R6- Castaño is starting to land rights over the jab of Charlo, and even jab with him when outside. Castaño is not having a hard time catching Charlo in between his dips and rolls, landing combinations to the head and body on numerous occasions. Charlo is getting in plenty of counter left hooks and staying out of the way at times, but nothing he does allows him to steal what is overall Castaño’s best round of the fight.

R7- No clue how Steve Farhood gave the fifth round to Castaño. Charlo is moving and jabbing to the head and body, but he also pierces his guard with straight rights several times. Charlo blocks a combination and rolls under a shot just to rock and stagger Castaño with a counter left hook. Despite this moment, Charlo doesn’t pounce on him and coasts for the rest of the round, winning another round clearly.

R8- Charlo is keeping the jab out there for Castaño to think about, and he takes advantage with some counter rights. However, Charlo is still the ring general and walks him into some counter rights and left hooks, overall getting a bit more work done in the round.

R9- Castaño appears to be breaking down at this point, as he walks into several clean 1-2’s early on. Charlo is having him following him side to side, while landing counter punches and tagging him with body shots and uppercuts when Castaño tries to brawl.

R10- Some cagey infighting occurs, but Charlo blasts Castaño with left hooks and right hands from the outside. With Castaño constantly coming forward and taking the fight on the inside, Charlo lands a right hook to the body, then follows up and blitzes Castaño with a sweeping left hook to the head. A delayed reaction occurs before the legs plummet from under Castaño, causing him to drop for the first time in their two bouts. Castaño gets up and stumbles, but is shockingly being allowed to continue. Charlo swarms him right away, landing a power jab before rocking Castaño with another one. A left hook to the liver lifts Castaño off his feet and drops him on all fours. With the ref being aware that Castaño is out of it, he ends the fight. Sensational win for Charlo, who ended an instant classic in the best fashion possible. Arguably the best bout for undisputed yet in the four belt era. One can very well make a case for Castaño winning the first fight, but I see Charlo winning every other encounter no matter how many times they’d fight again. Castaño brought it like always, but Charlo was ahead in every single way and showed more variety and creatibity to his game. With this, Charlo established one of the best junior middleweight campaigns in history and cemented himself as a legend with his best performance yet. I expect Charlo to dismantle the undefeated Tim Tszyu in January.
