This fight was always going to be a lose lose for Haney, but he made it worse by doing as poorly as one could have reasonably expected given the difference in where Haney and Gamboa are in their careers. He talked about how he'd destroy Gamboa, beat him worse than Crawford did, but instead, he went twelve dreadful rounds with 39-year-old Gamboa. I don't agree with the people saying this exposed Haney as being below Tank/Lopez/etc, Haney is a good technical fighter. Boxing is a "what have you done for me lately" business but people should recall Lopez vs. Nakatani as a recent example of why people shouldn't overreact to one fight. It does expose some of the potential shortcomings of Haney though. We'll see how his power and strength develops, even though he's big he doesn't seem strong and he hit weak chinned Gamboa clean a number of times without doing damage to him. I've said it before but signing with Eddie was a big tactical mistake, he's not going to build his profile on DAZN fighting retread guys. He's basically hoping for the Ryan Garcia fight which he'll be the B-side on assuming Garcia beats Campbell.

None of the fights were shown in the UK, I take it this fight isn't worth catching up on?

The fight was just one of those 12 round shutouts where one fighter was clearly above the other but won't/can't step on the gas and the other fighter is doing enough and is good enough defensively to stay in it. Haney was relatively low output throughout the fight, he definitely could have taken more initiative. No reason to watch unless you really want to watch Haney and it wasn't a good performance by him.

I'll give it a miss, I agree with your assessment based on what I know about both fighters, Gamboa isn't big at 135, had a weak chin before he was shot, hasn't been active, the deck was definitely stacked against him, this should have been a repeat of Khan vs Barrera in my opinion, I'm surprised Gamboa lasted 12 rounds. Lipinets vs Clayton and Inoue's fight are the ones I'll catch up on.
