Huge upset by Ruiz, the biggest upset in heavyweight championship boxing since Lewis vs. Rahman I. Ruiz wasn't fazed by the moment and put in a career-best performance fighting to his strengths. He got up off the deck, picked his spots and countered Joshua with fast combinations which put Joshua on the deck four times. All things considered, Joshua looked extremely poor in this fight. In hindsight, he looked distracted and/or banged up coming into the fight, coming out late, looking distracted in the introductions, and asking his trainer what was going on. Joshua didn't use his length like he should have in this fight, his trainer was telling him to jab and fire the straight right but he kept using his hook and got countered. Joshua looked gassed after three rounds, and his chin, defense, and will are in serious question. He looked very disinterested in this fight and appeared to want a way out in the final round. That being said, Joshua can win the rematch and he'll probably be the favorite. He has to have his head in the fight, slim down, and box behind the jab and straight right to keep his distance like Wlad did with shorter fighters. People have said Joshua should consider switching trainers but it seems he was being told the right things, he just didn't execute them, which he will have to do in the rematch. He'll have the deck stacked completely in his favor if the fight is in the UK, he can win on the cards if he is competitive in the rounds. However, he doesn't take the fight seriously, doesn't have his heart in it, or tries to mix it up with Ruiz again, he could get stopped again. Even though Ruiz is the champion all the pressure is on Joshua, it is a must win or his career is seriously upended which makes the rematch very intriguing.
