I won't get the chance to see this fight for a while, what did you think of this performance from Andre Ward?

I thought he had a pretty good fight for not fighting for almost a year. I think he should get another fight this summer then fight Kovalev in the winter. Did you watch Eubank vs Blackwell at all?

Champion97's picture

I did, I think Richie Woodhall is a great commentator on general, but last night, he was terrible, Eubank won every round decisively, and more importantly, Nick Blackwell should have been sent out of there in round 7, he took a massive amount of concussive punches, every punch did damage, he hadn't won a round, Eubank was thriving and becoming more dangerous, Blackwell couldn't seem to throw any punches back, it was a classic case of a fight needing to be stopped, nobody else said it should be stopped, and now Blackwell is in hospital in a bad way, it is horrible to see boxers suffer like this, it is so important that referees do their jobs properly. Above all, it was a very good performance from Eubank, he made a few mistakes, but he is still improving, I think people are in denial about how good he really is, although I'm a massive fan, I think Eubank would actually beat Billy Joe Saunders now, although he is also improving, so that rematch is definitely a great, intriguing option for the future, and I'm sure the animosity would still be there.

I hear that Ward didn't box very well by his own standards last night, I still think Kovalev just about beats him, although that's an extremely close fight in my opinion, I'm assuming anything Ward lacked last night was due to ring rust.

I heard that Blackwell is in the hospital with a brain bleed. Hope he is alright, but he needs to quit boxing. The fight should've been stopped earlier than it should've been. I'll watch the fight sometime soon. What do you think is next for Eubank Jr? A rematch with billy jo Saunders would be a good fight. One thing I noticed in the ward fight was he was getting hit cleaner than he normally does. He was pretty good offensively.

Yes, although, he doesn't need surgery, which is a good sign, I hope he makes a full recovery, if his career is over, then that is very sad, I think it is time for the world title now, I think he should get the fight against Danny Jacobs, it's a fight I think he wins, or maybe a shot the WBO title, so a Saunders rematch, who would you pick to win that? I think Eubank would be an underdog for that fight, and it is close, but I think he would win. I question whether or not Ward is comfortable at Light heavyweight, we should consider the possibility that he did this just to get the fight against Kovalev, he was bored at super middleweight, but I still think he is in the top 3 boxers on the planet.

That's good to hear that he didn't need surgery. I think Jacobs would beat Eubank but I think Eubank can beat billy jo Saunders. Chris Eubank Jr. Is definitely deserving of a title shot. It will be interesting to see how Ward does at light heavyweight. I think it was a good move because he already beat Everyone at super middleweight.

Cool, I would never write off a fighter like Jacobs, maybe he could capitalise on what mistakes Eubank would make. I actually disagree to be honest, I think there are fights for him at super middleweight, Callum Smith, George Groves, James Degale, Badou Jack, although, the fight we all want to see is him vs Kovalev. If Floyd Mayweather was to come back after all, I think his opponent would be Gennady Golovkin, my theory for that fight is that it is quite simply a replicate of Mayweather vs Maidana 1, many people would say Mayweather lost, he would rematch him, beat him decisively, and that's it, but I'm still not convinced he will come back, if he does I hope he doesn't fight Garcia, he is classes above him in my opinion, and he would win in a one sided blow out, speaking of Danny Garcia, I think after that terrible defeat to Tim Bradley, Brandon Rios should chase Danny Garcia, a big name, an officially and fortunately but legitimately undefeated fighter, and a fight I think he can win, what do you think of that fight?

Those would all be good fights for Eubank. I don't really think if Mayweather comes back he'll fight Golovkin. He said that Golovkin has to beat Ward and it looks like GGG and Ward will never fight. I think that he has interest in fighting Garcia more. I agree that it would be a one sided fight for Mayweather. He would expose Garcia. I think there is still a possibility of him coming back to get his 50th win. I think Brandon Rios should fight someone like Ruslan Providnikov would be a better fight for him. I think Garcia should fight better names like Kell Brook, Broner, or Thurman vs Porter winner. If Rios and Garcia were to fight I would pick Garcia to win.

Champion97's picture

On a realistic note, I think you're right, but it would be a real shame to see him waste a potential comeback fight on an overrated Super champion wannabe like Danny Garcia, to be honest mike, I think he has already been exposed, if his record was 27-5, then who could complain? I agree than Provodnikov is a very hard fight for anyone, and for Rios, it is a winnable fight, big would that be a classic, the problem is though, as for these better names, Broner, well, he knows he's more successful at 140, at 147, he is at a very similar level to Brandon Rios, and Thurman, Porter, and Brook, Garcia knows they're all a class above him, and he would have no chance of beating any of them, Angel Garcia is no good for Danny Garcia in my opinion, he always refuses unfortuate opponents the rematches they deserve, because if we look at Mayweather, people say his record could be 46-3 which it could, but for 2 of those 3 opponents, he happily rematched both and beat them decisively, (and De La Hoya probably wouldn't have fought him again), Garcia has 5 wins on his record that many believe he doesn't deserve, and he hasn't taken part in a single rematch, I blame his dad, fair enough, Rios would be an underdog, how do you rate Garcia in the welterweight division?

A fight I would love to see Mayweather in would be against Bradley. I think that he is the most deserving of a Mayweather fight. That is true, he has been exposed before. Provodnikov vs Rios would be a great fight. I think that Garcia is a solid fighter, but I think he'll get beat if he steps up in competition. Like if he fights Thurman, Porter, or Brook he would lose. I don't like that his dad is so stubborn to give rematches when they should happen. Thats whats good with Mayweather, if everyone thought he lost a fight he woud give them a rematch. What do you think of the Victor Ortiz vs Andre Berto rematch? Who do you think will win?

Champion97's picture

Yes, especially if Tim upsets Manny, which I think he will. I think he would lose badly to Thurman, Porter and Brook, but I actually think Algieri, Broner and Rios could have the beating of him. I agree, anyone who says Mayweather clearly won the first tight can shove their nonsense where the sun doesn't shine, why else did Mayweather rematch him? I think it's a good idea, I think Berto will win, I see vulnerabilities and weaknesses in both fighters, but by his own standards, I thought Berto was brilliant against Mayweather, it is sad, but ever since being destroyed by the one and only Chino Maidana, Ortiz has never been the same, I think he will lose badly to Berto. A rematch I would like to see would be Lopez vs Berto, Lopez was in control of that fight, Berto dropped and hurt him, having fair, square great success, but I thought the stoppage was unnecessary, I much prefer that fight to Berto vs Ortiz, how about you?

I say that Berto will beat Ortiz to. Ortiz doesn't seem the same anymore like you said. I think his loss to Mayweather ruined him. Also what is your opinion on Larry Holmes?

Champion97's picture

To be honest, I think the Mayweather defeat was just a very sour, bitter cherry on top of a career derailing cake that Maidana baked. I think he was extremely underrated, I think he was never appreciated in the right way, he was seen as the guy who destroyed Muhammad Ali, it put people off watching his fights, but he was great in his prime.

I agree that Holmes was very underrated. He beat a lot of good names in his prime, one of the best Heavyweights of all time. I think people didn't like Holmes because he had a bad attitude.

Champion97's picture

You may well be right, I think between the end of Ali, and the start of the Tyson era , the Heavyweight division may have do faded just a little. Are you watching Broner vs Theophane on Friday? And who do you think wins?

I'm watching the fight Friday. I think Broner will win.

Champion97's picture

Me too, and me too, I think he is a class above really, but I'm expecting to see Theophane cause Broner a few problems, and make him work for his victory, I don't think Broner will stop Theophane, I think has trained very hard for this fight though, and he will put on a for eat performance, in my opinion, Broner is a very good world class fighter at 147, but at 140, he is even better, he seems to carry more power at that weight, I think he should stay there, I think another fighter who shouldn't have moved up to 147 is Danny Garcia, I think he should move back down, and Broner and Garcia could fight, that sound like a good plan to you? I could see Broner edging that one.

I have a feeling Broner might stop Theopane in the later rounds. Theopane will give Broner a tough fight though. Broner vs Garcia would be a great fight to see. I think I would take Garcia but I can see Broner winning as well.

Champion97's picture

If you're right, then that would be an achievement, Theophane has never been stopped before. What's your opinion on Danny Garcia?

I like him, but I do think he can be overrated at times. I think his record makes him better than he is. I think he should've lost to Peterson, I still have to see the Herrera fight. He's fought some good names like Khan, Judah, and Matthyse but I think higher opposition would beat him.

Champion97's picture

I'm not a fan, I think his dad is terrible for his reputation, and doesn't help him tactically, what's funny is that Garcia's record could easily be 27-5, he should take a leaf out of Mayweather's book and fight every guy whom beats questionably again, he hasn't had one single rematch, I blame Angel, I have never really been thoroughly impressed with any of his performances, in my opinion, he does this even compare to A class fighters, e.g. Thurman, Porter, Bradley, I would love to see Rios vs Garcia, I know you would predict Garcia to win, like most, but whether he wins or loses, that is a genuine challenge, and a great fight.

You just moved up from the bottom spot to number 4 in PCOTM.
