How good a boxer was Ricky Hatton?

It's hard to judge Hatton because he mostly either fought lower level or older guys and then fought two GOAT level guys. I would have liked to see him take on guys who were around his level like Marquez, Bradley, Judah, Mosley, Cotto, etc.

What do you think?

Re: How good a boxer was Ricky Hatton?

Yes, I agree he was kind of a brute who could overpower mid-level opponents but looked lost against Mayweather and shell-shocked against Pacquiao. I believe Mosley would have beaten him easily, probably Cotto too - Bradley, Judah, Marquez would have been the best of the fights. Mayweather's side-step punch that sent Hatton into the ringpost near the end of the fight was like getting posterized on a slam dunk. Ricky did OK for himself, although these days he looks kind of bloated and uncomfortable hanging around the fringes of Tyson Fury's and other British fighters' camps.

Got to love what Ricky got out of his limited skill set though. He was great for boxing. Especially in the UK. Tszyu was his greatest win I think, but Kostya was at least four fights past his prime.

Prime Tszyu, Cotto and Mosley beat him. Judah may out-slick him, but Hatton would have a chance to hurt him on the charging rushes. Hatton may have been a little too big and physical for Marquez, but there is also a good chance Marquez sparks him like Pac did. Bradley-Hatton would have been a memorable fight.

Marquez counter punching style and mid range game could cause real problems for Hatton coming in but on the inside and in clinches that fight could really turn in Hatton favour and would be great watching Marquez fight him off in the clinches as he is capable of
Slicker Judah vs Hatton knowing he can hurt him with his right and left to the body
would favour Hatton over Cotto at 140 and Cotto slightly at 147 still Cotto is open all day on the inside for the uppercuts and love to see how he handles Hatton body punches (swarming body punchers as a rule of thumb hate it in the kitchen vs more accurate or unorthodox body punchers )
hard to see Hatton beating the Mosley who came back down to 147 in the late 2000s...styles
Hatton Bradley would be a cracking fight and he beats any calendar year version of Tszyu all day and twice on a Sunday

He was good but a bit overrated imo
