Canelo Vs Kovalev: rehydration clause confirmed!

Per Fat Dan, Although Canelo Alvarez, who is moving up two weight divisions to 175 pounds, did not seek a catch weight for his light heavyweight world title challenge of Sergey Kovalev in an effort to drain him from his natural fighting weight, there is a rehydration clause in the contract, sources told ESPN. It requires both fighters to submit to a weight check on Saturday morning at which neither man can weigh more than 185 pounds, one source said. There are severe financial penalties if either man is over. Kovalev is used to weight checks on the morning of the fight from his days of holding the IBF title because that organization requires them.

Will it be an issue. If it wouldn't matter, there wouldn't be one. Opinions?

Re: Canelo Vs Kovalev: rehydration clause confirmed!

I don't think so

Re: Canelo Vs Kovalev: rehydration clause confirmed!

Kov just missed weight on first attempt...

He was wearing a necklace as well. So it looked like he was very confident of making weight. Either the scales were rigged (wouldn't surprise me) or Kovalev will be drained on fight night.

Re: Canelo Vs Kovalev: rehydration clause confirmed!

Scales were rigged? Bro come on lol

Re: Canelo Vs Kovalev: rehydration clause confirmed!

No hear me out. Kovalev normally comes in about 174lbs, even wearing the necklace...

He has never had any trouble making weight and this is the biggest fight of his career when he just had a fight.

Those scales could be rigged man. Suddenly he's 2lbs over what he normally is? Give me a break. He looked very surprised and kept looking at the scales when he missed it after he came in looking very confident. The cheating has begun.

Too rich for me, Oscar is both a long-time drug addict with a pending lawsuit and a barely held together promotional company that rides on one fighter who he has a bad relationship with and a mastermind at corruption who rigs every level of boxing down to the commission's scales

Re: Canelo Vs Kovalev: rehydration clause confirmed!

Looking at how much money they have invested in Canelo, wouldn't surprise me at all. Not one bit

Re: Canelo Vs Kovalev: rehydration clause confirmed!

Floyd, you're better than this, don't be one of those.

Re: Canelo Vs Kovalev: rehydration clause confirmed!

Rigged scales, IMO. Psychological warfare. Canelo will pay for the shenanigans.

Re: Canelo Vs Kovalev: rehydration clause confirmed!

This fight is more rigged than Tyson Fury's wrestling match.

canelo doesn't deserve any credit for this win (because we already know he is winning the fight)

Re: Canelo Vs Kovalev: rehydration clause confirmed!

Canelo is being accused of taking away Kovalev's size advantage, because this is 10lbs is not a lot of allowance for a light heavyweight, but based on Kovalev's past fights, he doesn't need more than 10lbs to be fully rehydrated, I don't think weight draining Kovalev is Canelo's intention, if he wanted to do that, this would be at a catchweight, but Kovalev can't build on his size advantage by making himself heavy carry extra weight to use against Canelo in the late rounds by leaning on him, which is an effective tactic for a tiring, bigger fighter.

Let's not be stupid, the scales weren't rigged, it was 4 ounces, he made weight, age making it slightly harder to make weight each time is a much more logical explanation. People will use anything they can to discredit Canelo, so much so that people are playing the 'he rigged the scale' card, but based on Kovalev's ring weight history, he does not need more than the 10lbs he's been given, he wasn't dragged down to a catchweight, Canelo has had no over generous judging in over 2 years, this is not a rigged fight, the deck is not stacked against the guy with a solid 2 division size advantage.

I understood the Canelo critics when he seemed to be avoiding Golovkin, was getting ridiculously generous cards in his favour (can't blame people for taking that out on the fighter when there is likely to be corruption), but now, he's beaten Golovkin, in a great fight, no dodgy judging in his last 3 fights.

Re: Canelo Vs Kovalev: rehydration clause confirmed!

You think way too highly of this sport. It's very corrupt and I made very good points about why the scales could be rigged. If Canelo's intention wasn't to get an advantage and drain Kovalev...there wouldn't be a rehydration clause period. Don't be so gullible

Re: Canelo Vs Kovalev: rehydration clause confirmed!

You didn't make good points, I like you man, but stop being a hater, it's all based on bias and not logic. You believe the scale was rigged, and you are calling me gullible, just use your brain pal, and read what I said, the rehydration clause isn't there to drain Kovalev, doesn't mean it doesn't have a purpose, the purpose is to take away Kovalev's option of building on his size advantage, he has 10lbs, he has been that or less in recent fights, the rehydration clause is just a perk of being the A-side, Canelo is fighting a guy with a solid 2 division size advantage.

Re: Canelo Vs Kovalev: rehydration clause confirmed!

Kovalev said himself he only gains 4-8 pounds after weighing in so he doesn't come in too heavy and to disadvange him.

Re: Canelo Vs Kovalev: rehydration clause confirmed!

Kovalev has to kill Canelo tonight in order to lose by split decision. But I'm sure he knows that as part of his $4,624,000 purse.
