R11- A left hook to the head and a pair of hooks to the body open up the round for Mayweather. Some counters land for Maidana here and there, but Mayweather is forcing the fight and landing hooks to his body as well as rights to his hand at will. The clinch of Mayweather is able to keep Maidana from working the body or landing the overhand right inside till late, but even then Maidana does not make the round close, rather than competitive. Maidana nearly tackles Mayweather out of the ring late and it is shocking that Maidana still never lost a point for his roughhousing tactics.
R10- Mayweather shows extra lateral movement early, but resorts to forcing the fight once again. Short combinations and jabs are landing to the body for Mayweather, who is setting up power shots to the head behind them. Maidana gets rocked by lead right hands twice in the round and shows frustration midway when he tries to implore Mayweather into brawling, as his inside work is primarily negated by Mayweather at this point.
R9- Upon being down through eight, Mayweather would adjust in order to sweep the remaining third of the fight. The lead right hand is landing harder than ever for Mayweather and with great accuracy. Usually it’s the other way around for most fighters, but Mayweather follows a missed left hook with a right cross that rocks Maidana, but the challenger shows grit and resilience. When Mayweather walks Maidana down, he is able to set up shots to the head and body with his flicking jab. The jab of Maidana is mostly being slipped, but it does keep Mayweather off him at times. Good comeback round for Mayweather and arguably his best round in the fight.
R8- Maidana steps on the gas from the get go, immediately crowding Mayweather into the ropes and digging hooks to his body. I cannot help but to chuckle at Maidana soiling his own momentum with a low blow. Mayweather starts to put counters together after they get seperated, but Maidana is able to slip and land some counters of his own. Maidana misses with a combination just to tag Mayweather with an overhand right afterwards.
R7- The left hook to the body is landing heavily for Mayweather, who is landing right hands behind it at times. While the jab is ineffective for Mayweather, he is still able to successfully land right hands behind it often. When in the center of the ring, Mayweather is able to put shots together as he pleases. When Maidana manages to get him on the ropes, he finds far less success than he did in the previous rounds due to Mayweather finally understanding his offense and enhancing his upper body movement effectively. Best round of the fight yet for Mayweather.
R6- The right hand is doing all kinds of good work for Mayweather, as he is landing it as a step through and pull lead often. A good amount of rights allow Mayweather to walk Maidana back at one point. Maidana is still able to land here and there with the jab, is showing overall good defense for the left hook and is still preventing Mayweather from being able to completely escape his body attack. However, Mayweather is making him pay for getting in with straight rights and uppercuts and having success to the body on the inside as well. The two have a brief staredown at the bell.
R5- Now Maidana is using the overhand right to get himself inside. Mayweather is able to avoid the left hook for most of the round, at least to the head, but a double left hook lands to the body and head for Maidana at one point. While being rough in the inside (and nearly landing a knee to the gut), Maidana is able to work the body and prevent Mayweather from getting anything going. The jab is landing to the head and body for Maidana too. Despite taking a deep breath after the bell, this was Maidana’s best round of the fight. This is the first time that Mayweather had been behind in a fight by a margin this wide.
