More:

Broner wins his HBO debut as the main support for Saul Alvarez-Matthew Hatton, using his size and skill to outbox Ponce De Leon down the stretch of their ten-rounder. The decision was lustily booed by the pro-Mexican crowd there to see Alvarez.

First time I watched this one I felt De Leon won easily, I'll watch it again and score it this time.

This was a very interesting fight.

This was a fantastic effort, fantastic, quite intelligent performance from Ponce De Leon, he used his experience, and he very nearly beat the young, undefeated favourite. Broner looked like he was on a different level to De Leon, at times, in a couple of those mid rounds, he was dominant, using his power like that, landing with such precision, the timing on his punches was fantastic, but for the majority of this fight, Broner was simply not doing enough work, there wasn't enough movement from him, his defence was good, but not so good that he could be out thrown by so many, but not get outlanded. Broner might have struggled with facing a southpaw, but I think more so because De Leon was experienced, awkward, he was active, the jab and straight left to the body in particular worked very well for De Leon, early, Broner really struggled to negate it, after round 3, he looked drawn, his cornermen weren't happy. De Leon did enough to make this a close one, coming on strong late as well as starting well, two of the three judges, in my opinion, got it just right, but Tony Crebs, I mean, De Leon had two very good rounds which were clear to anyone's eye, to be rounds for the Mexican, 99-91, scoring fights this way, it just stinks.

Broner seemed to take control in the mid rounds of this fight, showing periods of time in which he was substantially better than De Leon, but late, Broner lacked the mental discipline, maturity to sustain his upper hand, and he did not throw enough punches, he did keep landing with the better punches, won 1-2 of the last 3, but he did not win this fight well. Broner did win this fight, and he did display his talent, skills, power at times, so this was a good victory for Broner, and winning a close fight, getting it far too wide on a judge's scorecard, against a popular, fan friendly Mexican, in front of a high number of Mexican fans, Broner must have felt right at home, really being the villian.
