WBC Middleweight Champion Saul Alvarez defends his title against Amir Khan with a thunderous knockout. The 155-pound catchweight fight progresses exactly as expected as Khan boxes well early before being floored the first time he is hit clean by Alvarez's right hand in the sixth round. Referee Kenny Bayless doesn't bother to count and calls a halt to the contest as soon as Khan hits the canvas.

So stupid.

Genuinely don't like the Khan Canelo match up, Khan has no business at any weight above 147 and could get seriously hurt

Weigh ins Alvarez looked bone dry a bit worse then Cotto weigh in. I have seen some links and whispers that ODLH and Golden Boy are gonna finally get down to buisness on the GGG situation. Maybe Canelo is having a hard time making Caneloweight?

Acerbitas's picture

dry enough to give Khan a reasonable chance ? Or is Khan still doomed ?

Perhaps. If Alvarez is sluggish he might not be able to land the big shot that everyone expects. You never know if a tough weight cut will hurt. He has 30 hours from 155.0 to fight time.

I think Khan does have a shot if he fights smart. Freddie Roach and Amir split because he said Khan exchanges in the pocket way too much for a guy who doesn't have a great chin. All of the Gingers tough fights have been against guys who are faster (Floyd, Lara, Trout, even Cotto to an extent of a slight speed advantage).

My rooting interest if for Alvarez but also Khan not getting hurt. We need to see if Amir is even among the best at welterweight. He has kind of been dodging tough fights at 147 and I hope this fight doesn't take too much out of him.

Acerbitas's picture

If he does win though... Canelo is an embarrassment and I think GGG knocks out Khan through the ropes.

Or a potential million dollar payday fight at 154 with Mayweather if Khan wins ?

Yeah maybe, Khan winning this would make him vs. Mayweather massive.

Mayweather seems to be itching for 1 more payday and the 50-0 record. I don't think Floyd has alot left in the tank though.

I have always thought that he doesn't want to fight Khan though because Khan would be too much of a challenge. Just the way Floyd is. He is talking about fighting Danny Garcia. There is also this bull about Floyd and MMA star Conor McGregor in basically an exhibition bout.

Acerbitas's picture

Floyd is definitely coming back for fight 50 in the summer or later in the year. There was something recently about Conor McGregor which is basically him getting a Mayweather/boxing type payday and since it is a boxing match Mayweather will make him look like a joke. Mismatch in every sense of the the word.

Mayweather is the master of the check hook which I think gives him a huge advantage over Amir who leaves himself open for the left hook which puts him down everytime (Prescott and Garcia destroyed him with the left hooks). If Mayweather clocks him with it it may be lights out. So I favour Mayweather but he will likely pick Danny Garcia for an easy fight. Floyd gets to 50 he breaks the record.

Also if Floyd gets to 50 and undefeated does anyone care about Rocky Marciano's undefeated record anymore ? Personally I don't think so.

Khan isn't abusing that right uppercut as he used to. He's still vulnerable to the right overhands , but neither Garcia or Floyd use it that often.

Acerbitas's picture

I agree.

albertocastany's picture

to clarify....Khan doesn't abuse the right uppercut...so he isn't as vulnerable as he used to be to the left hook to the glass chin. Virgil Hunter did manage to fix that on Khan

albertocastany's picture

Speaking about being vulnerable to the overhand right lol

Boom!!

Knocked the snot out of him. I just hope that Khan can come back and fight some of the better guys at his weight.

Champion97's picture

Why on earth did I change my original prediction that Amir Khan would be knocked out in round 6 by Canelo Alvarez?

Champion97's picture

What a sensational finish! Although many predicted the fight to end this way, I think both deserve so much credit, Amir Khan boxed extremely well in this fight, he made few mistakes, he looked fast, sharp, his movement was fantastic, and most importantly, he made Alvarez genuinely occupied, and a little bit frustrated, he deserves a huge amount of respect for being so sportsmanlike in defeat. Canelo Alvarez wasn't just a big man in there tonight, who had a massive advantage which served him so well, he boxed with maturity, experience, composure, economy, and he proved to be extremely skilful, of course, we all knew before hand that he was skilful, but he proved to be skilful in a much higher level in being able to negate the kind of speed and skill that Amir Khan possesses, that was an educated, precise, genuinely well timed, devastating finish, and it took great skill to set it up.

I don't think it is the end of the road for Khan, I think he is likely to be underestimated now, but at the end of the day, he was knocked out with one punch in this fight, and he has come back from defeat before, and in previous defeats, he has been initially hurt through perhaps inferior power to the power in the finish from Alvarez, and taken beatings, I think he has taken less genuine damage in this fight than he did in the Garcia fight, I don't think Khan will be damaged, I'm not worried for his health, I think his best option is to drop back down to welterweight, and get back in the mix with the lies of Kell Brook, Keith Thurman, Shawn Porter, and Erroll Spence Jr, the Danny Garcia rematch is a fight I think he could win in one sided fashion, and a fight against Kell Brook will always be a massive option for Amir Khan.

Acerbitas's picture

I GET KNOCKED DOWN, BUT I DON'T GET UP AGAIN
CANELO IS GOING TO KEEP ME DOWN.

Champion97's picture

But come on, you couldn't have expected him to get up from that, were you disappointed in Khan's performance?

Acerbitas's picture

Absolutely not ! To have gone as far as he did and be ahead was impressive and Khan has nothing to be ashamed of.

Champion97's picture

Oh right, I misread your comment, anyway, you took the words out of my mouth.

Champion97's picture

Computer decided to double my comment.

albertocastany's picture

Wowowowowowwowoow
SERIOUS TALK TO HAVE GGG VS CANELO at my city!!!!

Canelo and his sponsor are meeting with the governor tomorrow....I WILL GET TO SEE GGG CRUSH CANELLO LIVE!!!!! I REALLY HOPE

Champion97's picture

Lucky duck.

albertocastany's picture

Meh...false...the plan isn't to fight Golovkin at my city...They plan to stage a great boxing event on September 2016 or May 2017 with (tentatively) Canelo vs Lemieux and GGG vs Jacobs...both the in the same card, but not fighting each other...

this is big time BS...and he just vacated the belt like the chicken he is.

I hope GGG and K2 move on and decide never to fight Canelo.

Champion97's picture

I know this was from 9 months ago, but I have to say something, Canelo, 'chicken', calm down, say that again, think carefully about what you just said, and laugh at yourself.

Champion97's picture

The fight is confirmed at this point in time, call him a chicken now!! Idiot.
