Hey man. How are you doing?

Have you had a chance to see any recent fights other than this one?

I'm doing great, just crazy busy as of late. Haven't had much time to do much.

I watched some of the Broner card but could only score this one in full. I recorded Valdez fight and watched it the morning after, i may have my card on here. I will be watching Canelo next week for sure. What are some other good fights for that card?

Good to keep busy in the pandemic, I'm trying to be as productive as I can and hoping to find work as soon as possible.

What did you think of it? I thought rounds 9 and 10 were hard to score, I could see Broner edging it, but I thought the cards were off.

None, it's the worst card Canelo has ever headlined in my opinion, but there are good fights to catch up on, Leo vs Fulton, Warrington vs Lara, Bocachica vs Reyes, Akhmedov vs Gongora were all good fights. I think Canelo will fight 3 times this year, I think last year was his first year with less than 2 fights, it's early in the year, and I think Yildirim will be his easiest fight in over a decade. I think Canelo will fight Saunders next.

I'm on the verge of graduating college as well, it's been very stressful. All I really want to do is work and be able to watch boxing fights as often as I did when I first joined this fight.

From what I remember, Broner was having the better of Santiago in the second half and that he edged the 2 rounds in question. I thought the official cards were awful, there was a case for Santiago edging Broner out.

That's what I figured, I'm still going to watch just because I have nothing else to do and I need to watch more boxing anyways. I agree this will be Canelos easiest fight in a long time. Soon I'll check out the ones you told me. I heard Warrington got knocked out or stopped that was wild to hear.

Congratulations on graduating.

I think Broner's inactivity was a big factor, his timing was off in the early rounds, and he tired in the late rounds, I don't think we'll see him fight for a world title again, but it's easy for people to forget he's a 4 weight world champion, hard to argue he's under achieved all in all.

Parker vs Fa is on DAZN earlier in the day, I think that 1 fight is better than the top 3 fights on the Canelo card put together. It was a big upset, I definitely think he underestimated Lara, but I think he had a problem, he has a solid chin based on his other fights I've seen, and Lara was doing a lot of damage.

Thank you, and sorry for the late reply.

It looked like ring rust was an issue for Broner starting out. I think we might see Broner fight for a world title again. I could see it because of the name, but his days are winning titles are over. If he does, it would be against a lesser opponent for a vacant belt.

I got to see that I was just looking at the cards and it looked like FA did better then expected. I still gotta catch up on Warrington fight. Do you think it is over for Warrington or not just yet?

Fury vs Joshua is coming closer to being finalized what are your thoughts on that?

Champion97's picture

I suppose he's marketable, he might get a big payday, but I don't think he deserves it.

Much better than expected, he did well to keep up his movement and get his right hand off as Parker was on the attack, he telegraphed Parker's right hand, he used his size, and I thought it was a very close fight. Not just yet, it's his first loss, he isn't old, he took a lot of damage, but not enough to stop him being the same fighter in my opinion, I think there was a problem with him on the night, I think Lara was always going to be tougher than Takcoucht, but not Warrington's 3 opponents before that fight, I definitely think it was an off night, and there should be a rematch later in the year.

I hadn't heard about that, but if it happens, it's the biggest fight in British boxing history, as far as I know, Fury vs Wilder III isn't dead in the water just yet, but we all want to see Joshua vs Fury, no doubt. I'd be more excited to see Joshua vs Fury than any other fight. You?

I agree on that for the time being.

I will watch both in the near future, both seem like intriguing fights.

I love the fight, it's quality and quantity in one. It is big in terms of popularity and it's the best quality fight to be made for right now. This is the fight I am most excited to see as well.

After years of us discussing, Canelo and Saunders is finally official, what are your thoughts?

Champion97's picture

Couldn't have said it better, it's not just a ticket sellar like Mayweather vs a non-boxer, it isn't a solid fight that doesn't generate as much publicity as it should, like Taylor vs Ramirez if that gets made, Joshua vs Fury is the biggest fight since Mayweather vs Pacquiao in my opinion.

I don't think Saunders will give Canelo a tougher fight than Smith, Saunders has better movement than Smith, Canelo will need to be busier with his feet, but Smith is a better athlete than Saunders and is offensively better, I think Saunders will have some success, but although his movement will stop him being as easy to get to as Smith was, I don't think his movement is a problem for Canelo, Canelo is great at cutting off the ring, and he is great at keeping a fighter on the ropes, Saunders can't hurt Canelo, and I think Canelo is a slightly better counter puncher, has better timing and reflexes, which are departments Saunders has never been beaten in, he doesn't have the power or engine to fight out of character, he's bigger than Canelo, but Canelo's last 5 opponents have been bigger than Saunders, I don't think he could push Canelo back, he has a solid chin, but I think the body shots will be his undoing. What do you think?

I agree on that, Pacquiao vs Mayweather is probably the biggest fight ever, the build up and everything made it what it was. I think that Joshua Fury is the new generations Mayweather Pacquiao. When does Josh Taylor fight next, it is fun watching him fight.

Personally, I think it depends on where Saunders is at. I haven't been following him closely but from what I remembered about him in the past is that he was not disicplined at all when it came to his weight or training. I do believe he will give him a tough fight and rise to the occasion. I think it'll be like a 115-113 Canelo or a draw. Honestly can even see a late stoppage by Canelo, those body shots might be too much. I'm excited about this fight to say the least. It might go like Canelo vs Kovalev.

Thoughts on Pacquiao potentially fighting Garcia?

Champion97's picture

His next fight isn't finalised yet, but I expect him to fight Ramirez in May or June, that's a fight for the undisputed, Taylor would likely be a fairly heavy favourite, but it's still a great fight.

Good point, I think he'll be in better shape than usual against Canelo, but his conditioning can only be so good, given he hasn't lived the life over the years. That's interesting, I'd personally be very surprised if Saunders won 5 or 6 rounds against Canelo, how do you see the fight unfolding? Do you think Saunders will win the early rounds out boxing Canelo on the outside?

Very unpredictable fight if that happens, Garcia has more momentum, has been more active, but he'e struggle with Pacquiao's footwork and angles, Garcia will have learned from the Campbell fight, but he'd likely make still make some mistakes which he might not afford, Pacquiao is a veteran, and he'd do a better job of building on hurting him than Campbell because of his mentality. Pacquiao isn't bigger than Garcia, but the size aspect would favour Pacquiao, because Pacquiao has been fighting career welterweights for many years. Pacquiao's age would give Garcia a shot in my opinion, Pacquiao tired against Thurman, he doesn't gas, he finds a second wind, but his recovery is slow, that would allow Garcia to work. I'd lean towards Garcia if the fight happened in a year, definitely in in 2 years, but I might just lean towards Pacquiao if the fight happened next. What do you think?

I saw it was in the works or very close, wasn't too sure how the process was going.

I think he'll rise to the occasion and put on a good performance (even in defeat). Also I see it going like Saunders giving him problems the first half with his movement, then once Canelo gets a good rythym, he'll take over. I hope he can at least give Canelo a good fight.

I like the fight somewhat, because of the unpredictability. Pacquiao looks the part still, he's still beating big names and quality opponents. I can see it being a too early fight for Garcia, but I can also see it as a passing of the torch fight and time catches up to Pacquiao. I find this a very interesting fight for the both, I just wonder what weight they would fight at.
