@Gold you think Tanaka quality of opposition was better tho...for them 3 titles

Gold's picture

No, it wasn't, and it is generally known it is easier to win titles in those very low weight divisions. I don't know how much better the Lomachenko quality of opposition was, I think it was better than Tanaka's but it wasn't a strong strength of schedule. The point was more that strength of schedule and how boxers do against that strength of schedule is more important than just winning titles

Chris M95's picture

strength of schedule?...just the quaLity of opposition...or the quantity of fights an elite fighter fights in a set period of time holds a lot of weight to you as well?....what if any are other factors do you consider?

Gold's picture

Everything (quality, quantity, timing, etc) I guess? Sorry if that is a bad answer, I think that beating a lot of quality guys back to back is very hard, it's draining and someone will have their number eventually.

Loma landed the only clean combo in round 2. That round should have been his.

Did you watch the clip? What did Lopez do in round 2 that was better than that?

Gold's picture

Yes, I do recall the combination by Lomachenko, easy to do when it was one of the only ones he threw for half the fight when he didn't want to risk taking Lopez's power. Lopez actually threw punches and landed them in round 2, he came forward and wanted to fight. The only reason people think Lomachenko won round 2 is because of their ridiculous bias and the poor commentary from Tessitore and Ward.

Yeah, Lopez landed body punches in that round. And not even all of them were good shots. How does that make Lopez the winner of the round given that he got caught late in the round?

We see a good solid combo by Loma in the clip I posted above, and he landed a couple other shots. That's a round for the champ.

Seems like people take their narrative of how a fight went and extrapolate it onto a given round. Doesn't work like that. In this particular round of round 2, Loma more than negated the mediocre body work earlier in that round with a solid combo. He also landed a couple more shots. That's his round.

No use in arguing with someone who is deluded like yourself. Enjoy your fantasy version of boxing

Alright so we're getting bluster instead of actual arguments, cool

Gold's picture

The bluster is watching people like yourself try to justify rounds fighters didn't win

- Loma won 4 rounds according to almost every sports writer and fan site like this one (rounds 8 thru 11).

- Rounds 2 and 7 were unarguably close rounds. They were not rounds that one could say were "not close". They were close rounds.

- 4+2=6 (a draw).

People are free to disagree, but there's nothing unreasonable about calling the fight a draw.
