Prediction,

This fight is somewhat similar to Barrios vs Akhmedov. Akhmadaliev has a goos shot because he has the amateur background, might have the skills and overall ability, might not be too inexperienced to beat Roman, I think he can out box Roman, but Roman might well have too much professional experience, might be able to take advantage of the 12 rounds, and disallow Akhmadaliev from out boxing him.

Akhmadaliev is an Olympic bronze medallist, he has skills, he stopped Isaac Zarate, who hasn't been stopped other than that, Zarate dropped and made it competitive against another prospect who was a good amateur, more recently. I've seen some of Akhmadaliev vs Zarate, it was a good learning fight for Akhmadaliev, he will have improved from that, but I thought the stoppage was slightly premature, and although he did damage, put Zarate on his back foot, and when the distance was there, and Zarate wasn't trying to survive, he was easily getting the better of Zarate, but I think he struggled when Zarate close the gap and attacked on the inside, struggled with awkward, looping shots, and he struggled to do hos own work on the inside, had to push Zarate, needed that distance.

Roman, against Doheny, was out boxed at times, he was hurt bad in round 7, didn't go down, but he took a beating. Roman was aggressive against Doheny, was able to get to him, dropped him twice. Roman can fight, he isn't technically great, but he has a high output, cuts off the ring, can fight on the inside, is a good body puncher. I think Akhmadaliev can hurt Roman worse to the head than vice verse, but Roman can do more damage to the body.

Akmadaliev can punch, is particularly dangerous with the lead right hook, it's hard but also accurate, that's a great shot for Akmadaliev, and if he can counter Roman, catch him on the way in, he can hurt him. I think Akhmadaliev can out box Roman on the outside, if he finds the range to get the shot off, he can land the left hand, and not rely on just the right hook, his defence is his footwork, and if he uses lateral movement, Roman will struggle to make it his fight. I think Roman can walk Akhmadaliev down in the second half, and if he can make it an inside fight, I don't think Akhmadaliev can get the better of him, and pushing, holding, to stop Roman working on the inside, won't work.

I think this will be a very close fight, I think Akhmadaliev will get the better of the first half by landing the counter right hook, stopping Roman in his tracks as he tries to attack, will follow it up with the left hand, as he finds his range and gets more confident, but I think Roman will come on strong in the second half, as he cuts distance, smothers the right hook of Akhmadaliev, attacks the body, gets the better of Akhmadaliev on the inside.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if Roman won, I think it will be very close, but I think think Akmadaliev will edge it. I think Akmadaliev is too inexperienced to beat most unified champions, he is not at his best yet, but based on the Flores and Doheny fights, and now weak the division was compared to most of the other divisions at the time Roman won his belts, I think Roman is a very poor unified champion.

Prediction

Bookmakers consider Akhmadaliev's favorite and for me it's a little strange. Many predictors say that Akhmadaliev has a good shot, I do not agree with this, I think these people just judge by statistics from the boxrec. Akhmadaliev, like any good amateur from the CIS, has good footwork and fairly quick hands. But his punches do not look destructive, they are pretty good. I'm not saying that he doesn’t have a hit at all, like Ray Vargas. He had only one good opponent in the pros, and it is obvious that everyone else just went out to fall, they were at a very low level. Sometimes Akhmadaliev just boxing, beating opponents because of a very good amateur base, he can easily pick up the rounds. But when his rivals surpass him in anthropometry, and this happens quite often, since Akhmadalmiev’s height is only 163 cm, he begins to look for a knockout, throws out a lot of power strikes, mainly hooks, he rarely deals direct blows with his left hand.

Roman, using the classic Mexican style, wants to reduce the distance and start a near war, using numerous hooks. Using such an uncompromising style, he often misses punches, but his chin makes him feel comfortable.

I think that Akhmadaliev will try to box with Roman, try to just pick up the rounds. He will hope for his superiority in the prior art. But, in my opinion, Roman also has cool footwork, and he will not allow Akhmadaliev to take rounds, he also has fast hands, and he knows how to reduce the distance. Roman will feel much better around. Akhmadaliyev will lose the rounds, and after about 6 rounds he will just try to get into it, he will start looking for a knockout, and I think he will get to this and maybe take 2-3 rounds because of this, but he’s unlikely to drop Roman .

My prediction is the victory of Daniel Roman by the decision of the judges.
Of course, this is boxing, and Akhmadaliev, of course, has chances, especially since he is a favorite in this confrontation. Many people think that he will win. And probably for me it will be a surprise, since in my vision all the cards are in Roman's hands.

Champion97's picture

I understand why you think it's strange, 7 fights is not many, and Roman is a unified champion, so based on that alone, you would expect Roman to be the favourite. I don't think that's what they do, I think they think so not only because they rate Akhmadaliev highly, but because of the weaknesses and limitations they've seen from Roman. Akhmadaliev does damage with his right hook, was it not impressive to stop Isaac Zarate? That's a good point about how he deals with opponents surpassing his anthropometry, and I think Roman will have good rounds when he can make it an inside fight, and the type of fight the amateurs don't prepare you for well, Roman might be able to smother the right hook, and if he can do that, work the body, disallow Akhmadaliev from creating distance, he can win, but Akmadaliev's best shot, based on what I've seen, is his right hook, which will be an easier shot for him to land on the inside than the left hand, because he might still get that punch off at close range.

Roman was hurt bad against Doheny, he has a solid chin, he did well not to go down, but if Akmadaliev gets his respect, it will be harder for him to impose his tactics.

I agree, he will try to keep Roman at bay, make it a fight where his amateur pedigree will be more of a factor. Roman takes his time to reduce the distance, he is patient, tries to cut off the ring, doesn't just follow his opponent around the ring, but I think he will struggle with the lateral movement of Akhmadaliev in the first half of the fight. I think Roman will hold up against the power of Akhmadaliev, take his power well in general, but if he walks into the right hook, I think Akhmadaliev will hurt him bad.

Zarate did not have a significant superiority in anthropometry, and it was a duel between two left-handed people, so the right hook should not work properly, personally, Roman’s left hook impresses me a little more. I agree that Roman is in no hurry, but from a technical point of view, he does everything right. I do not look at this fight as a fight of a unified champion and boxer with a record of 7: 0. I draw a conclusion only after seeing the style and skills of boxers.

Champion97's picture

I disagree on that because he got close and imposed his tactics. The right hook landed clean against Zarate, did a lot of damage, stance aside. It's a great shot, and Roman did great work to the body against Doheny, that could be a key to victory for him against Akhmadaliev because going to the body can slow down the movement of a mobile opponent. He's a solid, compact fighter, but when you take a long time to close the gap, as a pressure fighter, that gives your opponent a chance to find his rhythm. I also draw a conclusion after seeing them fight, in a fight of this magnitude, but resume, titles won, experience, are all important information, it's a combination of both, no doubt.

Ok, I underestimated the two things that allowed Akhmadaliev to win. The first is his physical strength, he turned out to be stronger than I thought, and the second is his chin, I have not seen his chin checked before, but today he showed that he has complete order with this.

Champion97's picture

My opinion on where you stand on your boxing knowledge in relation to myself and other hardcore boxing fans has not changed since before this fight, you gave it a go, wrote a detailed analysis, sometimes you get it right, sometimes you get it wrong, same with all of us. I called the result, and I got the SD right, but I think was lucky in that regard because I think Roman winning is a bad score card, and although he had his best round of the fight in the last round, I think I was wrong about it being a fight with 2 halves, because I thought it was all Akmadaliev in rounds 9-11, also, we both underestimated Akhmadaliev's strength, I didn't expect him to push Roman back.

How to take part in your competition?

Champion97's picture

There is a fight vault, 18 fights for each month, you make a prediction for each fight, specify decision or stoppage, and either SD (SD and MD are worth the same points) or UD, and if a stoppage, either early (1-4), mid (5-8, or late (9-12). You can predict a draw.

Here are the points scenarios
Call a draw, 7 points
Call a UD, 5 points
Call an SD/MD, 6 points
Call early, mid, or late, 5 points
If you get the outcome wrong, that's 0 points unless you called an SD, in which case, you get 2 points
If you predict a UD and it's an SD ir vice verse, 4 points
If you predict a mid stoppage and it's a late stoppage, 4 points
If you predict a early stoppage and it's a late stoppage, 3 points

Leave them anywhere, all you have to do is give me the predictions, but in future, this is a good place to predictions.
