What a masterpiece by David Price! Surely the best win of his illustrious career.

SalTnutZ1's picture

For sure. Allen was too short, couldn’t land his shots on the taller man, and Price paced himself well, timed Allen out, and kept the high guard well. The amateur background and pedigree showed big time here. Not a great fight, but Price was the class in this one.

Gold's picture

I was being sarcastic if it didn't come through, I think the viewers should have been paid to watch this fight. Allen looked so unbelievably bad and basic he made Price look like a quality operator

SalTnutZ1's picture

I know you were. But in terms of difference in quality of fighter, and Price actually doing what he needed to in pacing, defense, and output, he showed improvement. Too little, too late. But still. I thought Allen would be able to land something on him, but as you said, was extremely basic in this fight.

Gold's picture

Allen is tough, but he didn't push Price at all. In my opinion, it was all Allen doing so little it actually made Price look good in those areas.

SalTnutZ1's picture

That was definitely part of it, but I don’t know that he was ever going to be able to push it. I thought he’d swing a wild one and catch Price in an exchange, but Price didn’t give him that opportunity. I wonder what they do with those HWs at DAZN. Doubt they’d try to make Price and Povetkin again, and I heard Chisora call out Parker, and they have to find a fight for Usyk, too. I’d make Price v Chisora, Parker v Povetkin, and maybe give Hunter another crack at Usyk. And they still have Hrgovic to matchup, too.

Gold's picture

Price should retire on a win or take one final lower level fight. Putting him in with anyone of top British level or above would be dangerous. I'd like to see Parker vs. Chisora, as far as I know, Usyk vs. Takam is still on? The winners of those two fights could face each other. After watching this fight it is hard to believe they were going to match Allen versus Povetkin, I wouldn't mind seeing Povetkin vs. Hunter but I think they want to build Hunter a little more before putting him in versus a bigger opponent rather than burning him on a guy in the late stage of his career like Povetkin. I don't think there would be any interest in the Usyk vs. Hunter rematch. I think they should target Hrgovic to fight Takam or Chisora if they lose their upcoming fights.

Gold's picture

Forgot Usyk is supposed to be the WBO mandatory so theoretically, he is supposed to fight for the WBO title after the Takam fight.

SalTnutZ1's picture

Yeah, but I bet after Fury and Wilder rematch, and after Ruiz v Joshua, whoever comes out the winner of those could look to finally unify as well, so could get pushed back. If not, a belt may get stripped and come open.

SalTnutZ1's picture

I wasn’t sure if Usyk v Takam was still going to happen after the delay, if so, that makes sense. I think Price will get one more payday from Eddie, and if it’s not against a Chisora, I’d burn him on Hrgovic or Hunter. I think if Hunter builds up, that Usyk rematch could be interesting down the road at least. Hunter is an entertaining fighter, and one of the few US HWs DAZN has if they ever want to give Usyk a US fight before he fights for a belt. Povetkin or Chisora against Parker would make a lot of sense. Don’t know where Allen goes. He probably sinks back to journeyman status, maybe gets one more payday against a Bakole or someone. Don’t see him getting even back to UK title contention at this point.

Gold's picture

That makes the most business sense to do with Price, but I feel like that would be doing him wrong to an extent putting him versus those guys. I think they should build Hunter to fight Hrgovic in a year or so. Hunter lost clearly in that fight and nearly got stopped late if I remember correctly. For me, that fight has zero interest. Is Bakole signed with a big promoter? I know he wasn't when he lost to Hunter, but I haven't followed him since.

SalTnutZ1's picture

He just signed with Matchroom a few weeks ago.

Price's secret weapon

Champion97's picture

His secreat weapon was that uppercut. Price displayed boxing skills you didn't believe he had, and you should hold your hands up, admit Price proved you wrong.

Champion97's picture

Facts are, we all said Allen would stop him, well look what just happened, you can't put that 100% down to Allen being bad on the night. Chisora vs Price should be next in my opinion, Price is showing no signs of brain damage, has taken almost no damage since Povetkin, I don't think he is at a much higher risk than any other fighter who steps in that ring. I think we will see Chisora vs Price on the undercard of Ruiz vs Joshua II.

As a viewer, this is one of the best results I've ever seen, outcome I've been most happy about for a long time, Price is popular in the UK for a reason, he boxed brilliantly against a guy who has expected to beat him, this was not a bad fight, and Price exceeded everyone's expectations

Champion97's picture

Do you still think he is shot?

Gold's picture
Champion97's picture

Come on man, he proved you wrong, he proved all the big mouths wrong, he is not shot, 36 is not old for a heavyweight, 4 damaging fights is not a worring amount of damage, showing no signs of brain damage, and as you said, that was the best we've seen from him in his career. You don't like Price, but show some respect, because who is anybody to say Price or another fighter gets support which goes beyond their ability? Fans can support a fighter for whatever reason they want, Price has been knocked out, come back, not given up, and proven you wrong.

'4 damaging fights is not a worring amount of damage', the Povetkin KO did look worrying when it occured, but Price was fine after it, hasn't had any serious issues since then.

you don't like him but he's not shot at all
