Fight recommendations

I thought it was a good idea to make a forum page for fight recommendations.

Re: Fight recommendations

Stuart Hall vs Vusi Malinga
Sho Kimura vs Kosei Tanaka
Tommy Coyle vs Daniel Eduardo Bruizuela
Orlando Salido vs Miguel Roman
Francsico Vargas vs Takashi Miura

Re: Fight recommendations

I like this. I will add a few either this evening when I get off, or this weekend, as I will be watching a lot of fights during my 4 days off! Love working for the government for this reason if nothing else, haha

Re: Fight recommendations

A good place to start with this type of thing is the Ring Magazine and BWAA Fight of the Year lists. The Ring has been naming a fight of the year since 1922, while the BWAA has only been naming a fight of the year since 2002, so there isn't as good of a comparison as there could be. My knowledge is relatively limited before 1960, so I won't give my opinion on fights before then, but I do know that quite a few of the Ring fights before 1960 have limited film e.g. LaMotta vs. Dauthuille II or no available film e.g. Greb vs. Tunney. This would be my list if I were to pick out just a few fights from each decade for being a combination of the most notable and entertaining fights (reigning champion listed first when applicable):

1960's:
Sonny Liston vs. Muhammad Ali I - 1964 Ring FOTY
Emile Griffith vs. Nino Benvenuti - 1967 Ring FOTY

1970's:

Joe Frazier vs. Muhammad Ali I - 1971 Ring FOTY
George Foreman vs. Muhammad Ali - 1974 Ring FOTY
Muhammad Ali vs. Joe Frazier III - 1975 Ring FOTY
George Foreman vs. Ron Lyle - 1976 Ring FOTY

1980's:

Matthew Saad Muhammad vs. Yaqui Lopez II - 1980 Ring FOTY
Sugar Ray Leonard vs. Thomas Hearns I - 1981 Ring FOTY
Marvelous Marvin Hagler vs. Thomas Hearns - 1985 Ring FOTY
Sugar Ray Leonard vs. Marvelous Marvin Hagler - 1987 Ring FOTY
Roberto Duran vs. Iran Barkley - 1989 Ring FOTY

1990's:

Julio Cesar Chavez vs. Meldrick Taylor I - 1990 Ring FOTY
Evander Holyfield vs. Riddick Bowe I - 1992 Ring FOTY
Michael Carbajal vs. Humberto Gonzalez I - 1993 Ring FOTY
Paulie Ayala vs. Johnny Tapia I - 1999 Ring FOTY

2000's:

Erik Morales vs. Marco Antonio Barrera I - 2000 Ring FOTY
Arturo Gatti vs. Micky Ward I - 2002 Ring and BWAA FOTY
Vassily Jirov vs. James Toney - 2003 BWAA FOTY
Diego Corrales vs. Jose Luis Castillo I - 2005 Ring and BWAA FOTY
Rafael Marquez vs. Israel Vazquez II - 2007 Ring FOTY
Israel Vazquez vs. Rafael Marquez III - 2008 Ring and BWAA FOTY
Juan Manuel Marquez vs. Juan Diaz I - 2009 Ring and BWAA FOTY

2010's:

Amir Khan vs. Marcos Maidana - 2010 BWAA FOTY
Andre Berto vs. Victor Ortiz I - 2011 Ring FOTY
Manny Pacquiao vs. Juan Manuel Marquez IV - 2012 Ring and BWAA FOTY
Timothy Bradley vs. Ruslan Provodnikov - 2013 Ring and BWAA FOTY
Anthony Joshua vs. Wladimir Klitschko - 2017 Ring and BWAA FOTY
Gennady Golovkin vs. Canelo Alvarez II - 2018 Ring FOTY

Both the Ring and BWAA missed some really good fights in my opinion, perhaps I will add them later.

Re: Fight recommendations

This page is not just for glory hunters like you, I set it up to recommend great, 5/5 slugfests at all sorts of levels.

Re: Fight recommendations

Where are those posts then smartass? Those ones on the Jack vs Browne and Inoue vs Salapat pages?, I know, now that they aren't getting to me anymore and I have been the bigger man by agreeing not to delete them again, you don't want to type them up anymore, proof that your whole motivational for writing that crap was to anger me.

Getting a bit angry yourself now I sense...

Re: Fight recommendations

And when I called you a glory Hunter, I was talking about snobbery, me and SalTnutZ1 are real boxing fans, we support brave fighters who keep trying despite the haters, like David Price, of course you only recommend the top level fights which everyone has probably already seen, and you would turn your nose up at Neeco Macias, Stuart Hall fights because you think you are above watching those fights, 'domestic level isn't good enough for me', terrible attitude.

Re: Fight recommendations

Ricardo Cordoba vs Bernard Dunne
Ken Norton vs Larry Holmes
Akeem Anifowoshe vs Robert Quiroga
Alejandro Gonzalez vs Kevin Kelley

Re: Fight recommendations

Norton-Holmes was an epic war. Haven't seen the other two but I'll put them on my list.
A couple of my personal favs:
Johnny Tapia vs Paulie Ayala I
Micky Ward vs Emmanuel Augustus (somewhat overlooked/forgotten because of the later Gatti-Ward trilogy)

Re: Fight recommendations

How do you add a fight to score? I just scored Myung Woo Yuh vs Joey Olivo...but no way I can find to add this fight

Re: Fight recommendations

You can't add fights unless you are approved, but you can request fights to be added here:
http://eyeonthering.com/forum/what-fights-are-we-missing?page=18

I've added the fight for you: http://eyeonthering.com/boxing/joey-olivo-vs-myung-woo-yuh

Re: Fight recommendations

Thousands of great fights but a few I love

Salvador Sanchez vs Azumah Nelson I
The Bloody Battle of Bayamon (Arguello vs Escalera I)
Gaspar Ortega vs Benny Paret I
Ricky Hatton vs Kosty Tszyu ( the fight that got me back into modern boxing lol)
Matthew Saad Muhammad vs Yaqui Lopez
Jung Koo Chang vs Sot Chitalada I
Chang vs Tokashiki
McCauley vs Bassa
Eijiro Murata vs Lupe Pintor
Soo Hwan Hong vs Yuh Kashara

Re: Fight recommendations

PhillyPhan69 - You are a boxing knowledge GOD!

Of this list I am only very familiar with Hatton-Tszyu. Great list for me to explore. Before Hatton-Tszyu, I had never seen a fight in which the crowd played such a critical role. It was almost like they were pumping pure energy into Ricky's performance. Can you imagine if you were at the fight? You'd never forget the experience. I'd probably talk about it every day with complete strangers. lol

Re: Fight recommendations

Yeah I am a big Hatton fan. As an American I had never seen such a die hard vocal group that followed him around the world. Growing up watching a lot of local Philly fights in the 70’s, could be wild. But I am jealous of the UK support that Hatton got

Re: Fight recommendations

I was at the Calzaghe vs Lacy fight at the MEN. I'm not sure what it was exactly but I think the crowd had Lacy beat during the ringwalk. I think he had a moment of clarity..... 'What am I doing here? What have I gotten myself in to?'

When Calzaghe beat him up in the first round and the crowd went wild, he just didn't know what to do.

Re: Fight recommendations

Yeah man. That Calzaghe fight (first time I had seen him), along with Marquez-Vasquez I a year later, turned me from a casual fan into a die-hard fan.
