Granted it was versus low-level opposition, Nery looked like himself here, went through the motions and got the KO. He's probably the second best Bantamweight in the world, however, I think there is a pretty significant gap between Inoue/Nery and the rest of the division. Could be an interesting situation to set up Naoya Inoue vs. Nery if the Oubaali vs. Warren fight doesn't happen, Takuma Inoue beats the 48-0 Rocky Marciano padded record Thai fighter for the vacant WBC title, Nery beats Takuma Inoue, and Naoya Inoue wins the WBSS.

Not saying Inoue isn't good, but I don't think people are getting carried away, and I still don't think any of his wins are as good as Nery's win over Yamanaka. I think because of his overall experience and achievements so far, and how dominant he has been as of recent, it is impossible not to rank Inoue very highly, I think he may well be the best at 118 though, followed by Tete, followed by Nery, Rodriguez, Burnett in no particular order. Nery did great in this fight, he just has to stick at it, stay away from PEDs, if anyone deserves a second chance, it is him, not Saunders's and Canelo's, but he should be banned for life if he fails another test. Nery must be kicking himself for that drug test, having lost the title, but more importantly, he's probably be part of this tournament had he not failed the test.

He doesn't have any wins as good as Nery's over Yamanaka, but Inoue's body of work is better than Nery's and he has a lot more relevant world-level experience. He's 25 and has 10 world title fights, extremely rare to see nowadays when boxers in the West only get their first title opportunity in their late 20's. Nery is also extremely young as well at 23. I've outlined why I don't rate Tete very highly compared to Inoue, but I think Tete, Rodriguez, and Burnett are worthy world champions. Both Inoue and Nery I think will stop all of them though, but someone who can box and move like Rodriguez or Burnett may be a more difficult stylistic matchup. I never thought Nery taking steroids made him a better fighter except for being able to make the weight at a larger size, but he's made the weight versus Canoy so either he's cut down in size which I wasn't able to notice or it was actually a contamination that caused the failed test. Nery is a real talent, he was a known prospect before he fought Yamanaka and he proved he's the real deal despite Yamanaka being over the hill. I think Inoue vs. Nery is one of the best fights in boxing, but if I had to favor one I'd pick Inoue because I think Inoue may be able to exploit that he is a stop and start fighter and that Nery gets wide on some of his punches. I think a lot of people overlook Inoue's technique, he is an extremely well-rounded boxer. Payano was KO'd not just because of raw power, but because of punch placement and speed.

I saw Inoue against Payano, that was a great finish!, power, timing, accuracy. I think 118 is the best division in the world at this stage, Inoue, Tete, Nery, Rodriguez, Burnett, all very good fighters, Burnett, in my opinion, is the weak link of those 5, but he would be top 4 in most divisions in my opinion.

Maybe, I think Middleweight is better, Welterweight and Light Heavyweight may be better as well. We will 100% see the best face the best at Bantamweight in the near future though which can't be said about those other weight classes.

Middleweight is second in my opinion, but light heavyweight isn't top 3 I don't think, Beterbiev, Bivol, not saying it isn't a strong division, but given that you don't rate Beterbiev as highly as I do, surprised you consider 175 that competitive a division. With the exception of Nery, yes, and had ne not let himself down by failing the test, maybe ge would be in the tournament as well.

Light Heavyweight is really open, I don't think anyone is better than Inoue or Nery at Light Heavyweight, but it is deeper between Bivol, Alvarez, Stevenson, Jack, Kovalev, Gvozdyk and Beterbiev. If Inoue wins I think he will end up facing Nery especially if Nery beats Takuma Inoue for the WBC title.
