How was the fight? I was busy and couldn't watch it.

I'm ready for the GGG fight next weekend.

Awesome! Close, but Porter won, very happy for Porter!, Porter has been one of my favourite fighters for years, very glad he is a world champion again. Garcia started off great, I thought he was going to run away with it, I think he is in his prime, Garcia, but a loss, and we'll see what he has got left mentally, but if he is in the right place, he can come back.

So am I! Come on Golovkin! Would be awesome if Golovkin won, I hate Clenelo, but I'm still 60/40 on Clen

I'm still looking to find it hopefully I can soon. What did you think of the Khan fight?

I really want GGG to win.

Any word on Kieth Thurman returning?

Champion97's picture

Yes, he explained that his elbow was injured, then he injured his hand in camp, and just like I thought, the doctor told him he will not heal until he stops, I understand why he hasn't fought, but in boxing, that mentality of wanting to take care of yourself can bring challenges, and Thurman listening to the doctor, sensible, but boxing is a crazy sport, and that tells me he might be too human. On an 'all or nothing' basis, you can't blame him for not going into meaningful fights with an injury, but I do also think he could have done more for activity, maybe not a top 10 opponent, but he could have stayed busy by defending against weaker opposition, he didn't do that, and now, he has 18 months of inactivity, a title he shouldn't have, best of luck to him, if he comes back, he is still a good fighter, still has the potential to be top 3.

You think he'll fight this year? I really feel it's unlikely.

Champion97's picture

Yeah I thini he might if he says so, he won't fight this month, highly unlikely he will figjt next month, but don't be surprised if we see him back in the ring in November or December, although, if he returns ina November, that's 20 months out of the ring he's coming back from.

Gold's picture

There have been some news posts about how he is in camp and will announce an opponent soon if you guys haven't seen them. Definitely realistic he could come back by the end of the year.

Yeah well, it was a very good one. Amusing, he got dropped and hurt by Samuel Vargas, I don't need to tell you much else, Vargas is poor, he was never supposed to win a round, like Greco, he was supposed to make Khan look good, and Khan was occupied against Vargas, Vargas, a low level, or tune up opponent for Spence and Garcia, for Khan, is a tough opponent. Khan is definitely not top 5, and he might not be top 10.

Me too!, he has a chance, if he is still fresh enough, of the inactivity makes the forst couple of rounds slow for Canelo, if Canelo has lost something from being clean, then Golovkin has a great chance.

Khan has a tendancy of getting knocked down even by lesser fighters. I don't know what's next for him. I want to see him fight Brook but it looks like it will never happen. I think Brook runs through Khan to be honest, I still feel Brook has more left then him and he's still a great fighter in my opinion.

I really want Golovkin to win. I think he has a lot more to lose if he does. He's in his late 30's and might retire, if Canelo loses he can easily come back from this. What do you think GGG needs to do to win?

Champion97's picture

He makes mistakes, he is inactive often, and a naturally weak chin that has been weakened over the years. So do I, but Khan has to stop being stupid, not claiming privileges he isn't entitled to, he isn't the A-side, at all. I think so. He's past his best, there is no doubt about that, but I agree, he is not nearly shot, he could have a few fights left. I think Brook might be top 3 at 154, Munguia would be touch and go time wise, Lara might be old enough that Brook could take him, but Charlo and Hurd, I think would both beat Brook, but Brook is still very good.

Most of us do!
Meh, potentially, but mentally, how would Canelo take it?, you can lose and be an honest athlete, popular, or you can be the cash cow, unpopular, wins all the time, but if Canelo loses, it puts him in a tough spot, and also, Canelo is 28, so if he beats a 36 year old,,,, he cheated last time, with an age advantage, and he still couldn't beat him and got off lightly with the draw. I mean, I am very biased, and if Canelo wins, thats a career defining win, but he does have an age advantage that I think he needs, I would be sad for Golovkin if he didn't win this.

Well, for a start, fatuige tactics, for 2 rounds, he should obviously try to win the rounds, but more importantly, make Canelo work at a pace he doesn't want to move at, make him quicken up the feet to escape the corner, make him move his head, be defensive and make Canelo miss with one of those big uppercuts he is likely to throw. Golovkin, I don't think should try to lead with power shots, whether he is by the ropes or not, every attack he mounts, should be set up by the jab, and Golovkin, also, should throw more shots in the middle rounds, but not fully commit to every one, even aim at the arms, wear down that guard, but be aware, keep your eyes on Canelo's gloves. When Canelo is moving, Golovkin must not let him rest, he has to jump forward, try to blast through the guard, try to get one great shot in, but unless he hurts Canelo, he should not carried away, and just go back to the jab. When Golovkin has Canelo against the ropes, and he can get Canelo in a position he doesn't want to be in, on the inside, he should tap away at the gloves, and then just thump a body shot in, if he can do more body work, that will pay dividends, weaken Canelo for the late rounds. What Golovkin shouldn't do is stand centre ring and wait for Canelo to throw first so he can counter, and try to set Canelo up that way, wise against a certain opponent, but not Canelo, because if Golovkin does that, granted, he might frustrate Canelo, doesn't give Canelo an opening, but at the same time, he doesn't use the round time to tire Canelo out.

What do you think?

I just hate that he is holding off a huge megafight. It is way more meaningful then a Pacquiao fight that's for sure. Pacquiao should retire, but I still feel like he could beat Khan, I don't know why I just feel it would happen. As for Brook, I think he is still better then a lot of people think, he still has it to beat Khan in dramatic fashion. I feel that Khan is sort of avoiding him. Brook vs Lara would be interesting.

Even if this whole cheating stuff didn't come out I would still be rooting for GGG. He needs this win more and that he was cheated throughout the making of the first fight. Robbed by the judges and had to wait.

I agree with all you said, I think he should invest in the body early.

Stevenson vs Gvodzyk who do you got? I got Stevenson by stoppage.

Champion97's picture

But if you are Khan, Pacquiao has a bigger name, he is much smaller, older than Kell Brook. I think he could, Pacquiao has that ability to stalk you, be inactive for a certain amount of time, and then just explode into action with a flurry, I think he could push Khan back by just the mental aspect of Khan's chin, and when Pacquiao has a fighter hurt, he is still a good finisher, now, Pacquiao being old, as we saw against Horn, he can't pick it up in the next round if he doesn't get you out, but Khan has never had good recovery, I think Pacquiao could still beat Khan. Well he isn't active, he is getting old, and eith the back to back losses, but still, I agree to an extent, he is still decent, and he might have lost a couple of fights, but he lost to fighters who were both well within the top 10. That would be a 50/50 fight, I would have a hard time predicting that fight.

I agree, GGG! GGG!

If he has Canelo at the distance and ring area he wants him, he should definitely opt to attack the body rather than the head. I got 50 predictions from the inside of the boxing world, 30/20 to Golovkin, that's 60%.

I'm not sure yet, but definitely, the questions are surrounding Gvosdyk, Stevenson proved last time what sort of desire he has, he proved he is young for his age, but he is still 40, he still took damage in the Jack fight. If Gvosdyk isn't good at world level, he will lose, but if he is a good world level fighter, he should beat Stevenson at this stage, I'm not sure how highly I rate Gvosdyk yet.
