Good performance by Mikey Garcia. He looked about the same as he usually does as an elite well-rounded boxer. Easter looked better than I expected, which is why I think he was able to go the distance. In his previous fights his low fight IQ really showed but for part of this fight he was able to use his physical advantages and remembered to jab. I think a lot of credit should go to Kevin Cunningham in that regard because Easter didn't do that versus Fortuna. I'm not really interested in seeing Mikey fight Spence, Spence will seriously hurt Mikey. I can't knock Mikey daring to be great by facing Spence though. I don't really know where else he would go outside of Spence because Lomachenko isn't going to happen given Mikey's issues with Top Rank. Perhaps Linares is possible, that would be a good fight for Mikey. I don't know if Linares's relationship with Golden Boy makes that impossible or not.

Let's hope Garcia and Spence are in a big fight, just not against each other. Spence vs Crawford!, Garcia vs Lomachencko!

Gold's picture

Spence versus Crawford will definitely happen eventually if they keep winning, at the earliest at the end of 2019. It'll get to the point where it'll make enough money. Garcia versus Lomachenko may never happen because of the promotional issues and it may never make enough money.

Champion97's picture

It looks that way, and to be more specific, Mikey says it is Bob Arum who simply won't allow the fight. That's we said about Golovkin vs Alvarez and Mayweather vs Pacquiao, so let's not rule it out, but I know you said 'may never' to be fair.

Gold's picture

It is just finger pointing all around, the fight couldn't sell PPV's at the moment in the US anyway so the money motivator isn't there yet.

Champion97's picture

Garcia vs Lomachencko wouldn't sell? I find that hard to believe.

Gold's picture

It wouldn't, they are both network headline fighters. Fighting Spence will raise the profile of Garcia if that happens because there will be a lot of backing behind that. They don't have mainstream casual appeal which is what sells PPV's.

Champion97's picture

Lomachencko is a household name over here now, Mikey is a 4-weight world champion. It seems to be like the issue is more that Lomachencko doesn't need Garcia in the eyes of his handlers. I'm no businessman, and I don't know business, finance or anythibg like that, so you might be right on this one

Gold's picture

Is he really a household name? I kind of doubt that, HBO and Top Rank have never put him on a US PPV for a reason. Same with Mikey, if they thought a PPV would make money, they would go for it. It very well may get to the point where there is no one left to fight but each other down the road though.

Champion97's picture

Yes, he is a household name. Let's hope they fight, every boxing fan wants to see it, and as I say that, it occurs to me that the fight would sell, because the fight wpuld be so popular, and maybe the reason they haven't had PPV fights, is because the opponents they fought didn't make the fight big enough, Pacquiao vs Alg/Rios/Brad, Mayweather vs Chin/Can/Bert, not PPV, but of course Mayweather vs Pacquiao was.

Gold's picture

The fight wouldn't be popular in the US if it were to happen now even if the networks really pushed it. Casuals sell PPVs and US casuals don't know who either guy is. The Mexican casual market which sells a lot of PPVs doesn't seem to get behind Mikey like they do with Canelo. "Everyone" in boxing wanted to see Ward vs. Kovalev who were arguably more known and marketable than Lomachenko and Garcia but that only sold 165k PPVs which is not good. Hardcore fans don't make enough money to make it work. Lomachenko and Garcia aren't PPV draws on their own, even when Lomachenko fought Linares and Garcia fought Easter those were never in consideration for pay per view. Pacquiao and Mayweather were way more known to casual fans.
