Oleksandr Usyk vs Murat Gassiev
In a Super Fight, WBC and WBO cruiserweight world champion, Ukraine's Oleksandr Usyk, takes on WBA and IBF cruiserweight world champion, Russia's Murat Gassiev, in Russia, in a fight for all the cruiserweight world titles, and the final the World Boxing Super Series, a tournament in honour of Muhammad Ali. Usyk, 14-0, defeated Marco Huck and Mairis Briedis to reach the final, whilst Gassiev, 26-0, defeated Krzysztof Włodarczyk and Yunier Dorticos to get to the final.
Usyk dominates and schools Gassiev, in what was supposed to be a 50/50 fight, he makes it very, very one sided, puts up a masterclass, dominant display of boxing skills, athleticism and talent. Gassiev tries, but is thoroughly frustrated, outboxed, and hit clean with a lot of clean punches, and besides landing one right hand to finish round 4, hurting Usyk, he has no success, isn't in the fight.
There is no hometown scoring, as the judges score the fight in Usyk's favour by landslide margins of 119-109 and 120-108.
Usyk becomes the WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO cruiserweight world champion, wins the Muhammad Ali trophy, which is handed to him by Muhammad's wife, Lonnie Ali.
