More:

Shannon Briggs reclaims a heavyweight title when he scores a dramatic knockout of WBO Champion Sergei Liakhovich. After going on the attack in the opening round, Briggs fights extremely sparingly for the next seven rounds, falling well behind on points to the champion, who is just active enough to bag the rounds. After hurting Liakhovich in the eleventh, Briggs rocks him with another right hand in the eleventh and lands another that sends him to his knees, hanging between the ropes. Liakhovich gets to his feet and stumbles into a corner, but Briggs follows up by pummeling the champion and sending him tumbling through the ropes and onto a ringside table with only two seconds left in the bout. Liakhovich tries to pull himself together to get back in the ring, but Referee Robert Ferrara stops the fight anyway.

Tough break for Liakhovich.

dizzy's picture

Liakhovich went from a dark horse of the HW division to a complete bum in a matter of months. Why was he so painfully slow this time?
