More:

Super heavyweight Wladimir Klitschko follows up the most satisfying win of his career with one of the most laughable title defenses in heavyweight history as he defends his WBA, IBF and WBO belts against cruiserweight Jean-Marc Mormeck. Mormeck fails to throw a punch the entire first round and is promptly dropped onto all fours by a one-two from Klitschko in the second round. Klitschko freezes Mormeck with another one-two in the fourth round before flooring him with a left hook. Mormeck, who has thrown no more than a dozen punches in the entire fight, gets up before the count of ten, but Referee Luis Pabon stops the shameful mismatch anyway.

dizzy's picture

Another day in work for the heavyweight king. On paper, Mormeck was a great name to have in the resume - former unified cruiserweight champion, with notable wins over Virgil Hill (twice) and O'Neil Bell, very athletic and polished fighter. Mormeck, though, was very inactive coming into the bout, having fought three times in the course of five years, with his performance being less than spectacular in these fights (at first glance at least). However, the heavyweight division was cleaned out by the Klitschko brothers, and Mormeck was at the very least a formidable name to add on the resume. To be fair, its not like Mormeck was a dead man walking in this fight. He was very game, he tried to be aggressive, he showed an impressive display of upper-body movement that somewhat prevented Klitschko from turning him into a practicing target, but everytime he tried to close the distance and turn the fight into an inside scrap, Klitschko tied him up not allowing Mormeck to do anything, and because fighting on the outside heavily favored Klitschko, Mormeck was outgunned. The result was another one-sided fight in which Wlad was never in trouble.
