In the early rounds it looked like Vargas could even stop Broner if Vargas kept up the body work. He was easily outpointing Broner for the majority first half of the fight. However, Vargas's body work didn't pay off, Broner began to time Vargas and Vargas started to gas going down the stretch. Good fight and there were some swing rounds that could have went Broner's way that I didn't score to him but I think Vargas certainly did enough early on to get the decision.

And by the way back to Povetkin vs Price,
You want to talk about a 100/0 fight, how about Khan vs that pathetic Lo Greco......

Gold's picture

Again, saying Povetkin versus Price is 100/0 was based on the optics of the matchup, things I could know beforehand. Lo Greco was a can but quite a lot of people thought he could at least make it the distance given Khan's inactivity.

Champion97's picture

'Optics of the matchup', you assess the scenario well, but in the wrong place. Forget we thought this and we thought that, the proof is in the pudding, and the difference between the two fights says it all.

Gold's picture

I didn't say Povetkin versus Price was the biggest mismatch of all time either. Just let it go, the fight is over, Price is sparked and Povetkin will be fighting AJ

Champion97's picture

Answer me this, a simple answer, was it more competitive than you thought it would be?, I know the answer...

Champion97's picture

Bit of bias me thinks.....

Gold's picture

This is the best I have seen Broner look in a long time, but he still has the problem of not throwing enough punches. He just doesn't make his shots count enough and/or control the action enough to win a lot of close rounds. Calzaghe vs. Hopkins is a higher level example of this happening. To score it 115-113 Broner you would have to give the guy every benefit of the doubt when he does anything good. Rounds 1 and 8, which you scored to Broner, he was just far too inactive to say he won them.

Champion97's picture

Actually, it's you who was giving every benefit of the doubt to one fighter, not me. To have this 117-111 is ridiculous, in a fight this close, could have been a two point margin either way, but no you got it wrong with that assessment.......

Gold's picture

I could have gave 7 to Vargas but I didn't. It is almost like if a fight has close rounds, if someone is landing more clean shots, working more often in the rounds, and controlling the action, they should get close rounds.

Champion97's picture

But you misinterpreted the fight, because if we want to be honest, to have the fight 9-3, is a joke... and if you want to talk about rounds, most of us gave 8 to Broner..

Gold's picture

To give round 1 to Broner is a joke. A lot of people here scored Floyd vs De La Hoya to De La Hoya, doesn't mean that Floyd didn't win 8-4

Champion97's picture

To score this fight 9-3, is like scoring Canelo vs Lara 117-111.....
They are the same people who think Vargas clearly won... people who score it right say Mayweather won and this was anybody's!
You got this one wrong! But what about 8 though? Just dodge it when it doesn't suit you.....

Champion97's picture

To give all 6 of the first 6 to Vargas.....
The deal is, you can never criticise a judge, even Adalaide Byrd, or other Canelo favouring judges, stick to playing the 'opinion' card, or you can be accurate, but also admit when you absolutely scored a fight wrong yourself.

Gold's picture

Why even talk about boxing if you believe that judges are 100% unbiased and unable to be criticized. I scored this right just like I scored Calzaghe versus Hopkins right and you scored it wrong. Fighters who are more active and control the action better should get the decision when there are close rounds.

Champion97's picture

Come on, just admit you are probably biased and screwed this one up, it's ok, you are just a fan..... nobody suffers from your faulty scoring.

Gold's picture

Jessie Vargas suffers from faulty scoring by people like yourself and Julie Lederman

Champion97's picture

Says who? You? :)
You are wrong but some leopards don't change their spots, be stubborn and keep your false statements, but, and again, you are wrong!

Gold's picture

Scoring close rounds to the more inactive and uncontrolling fighter is wrong just like with Calzaghe vs. Hopkins. A few good flurries does not outweigh three minutes of good activity
