Rocky vs Clubber.

Chuck Wepner keep it competitive.

Sonny Liston won with his championship experience.

Tank Abbott's picture

Cracked cheek bone
Broken nose
6 cuts requiring anywhere from 72 to over 100 stitches (depending on the source)
All to Wepner. Give him his due, though. He was ready to come out for another round. The doctor stopped the fight. Wepner is in the top 5 pincushions in heavyweight boxing. I'm not talking about his ability to take blunt trauma (although, he's up there too), I'm talking about his ability to fight through pain. The only people I can think of who fought through worse pain than him, as far as amount of blood and bruises/ broken shit, are jess willard, john l. sullivan, and maybe lee savold or joe jennette. All of those picks are based off of single fights, though (Joe jennette vs Sam Mcvea 3, Jess Willard vs Jack Dempsey, Lee Savold vs Rocky Marciano). With the exception of John L. Sullivan, I can't name anyone who I've heard of thats boxed so many bloody wars. Randall Cobb, George Chulavo, and Oliver McCall likely all out do him in ability to absorb blunt trauma, but Wepner could practically have a drill run through his abdomen and he still wouldn't move.
