Toney dealt another lery decision, yes it was a close fight but Toney clearly won imo.

what_is_the_default_password's picture

I would not call this decision leery. The fight was very competitive and ridiculously hard to score, as a result the judges' scores vary wildly. In my opinion, Toney only appears to be clearly winning in the 12th round, where McCallum was tired and wobbled (and even then Toney still ate shots from McCallum). Almost every other rounds are razor-close toss-ups.

Left Eye's picture

I'll have to watch this one again in the future.

A couple rounds could have gone either way, but I don't think this fight was that close.

The strangest thing to me was Toney's own corner told him he was losing, I thought he was winning (and won) comfortably.

what_is_the_default_password's picture

I disagree on Toney winning comfortably. It was a see-saw battle all the way till the end. I could not help but feel that the TVKO broadcasters spent too much time highlighting Toney's counters, and overlooked McCallum's shorter, less eye-catching counter-shots (especially counter-shots to the body, those are the easiest to miss)

If I was Toney's cornerman, I would have told Toney the same thing. A super-close fight like this should not be left to the decision, but Mike was too good to be knocked out even if he was tired.

I scored this one already where is my original score card ?

what_is_the_default_password's picture

Two master technicians going to war. This fight produced some of the most breathtaking exchanges I have seen thus far.

what_is_the_default_password's picture

Poor McCallum got stripped for facing Toney and he failed to convince more than one judge that he deserved Toney's belt.

McCallum was left belt-less but boxing fans got one of the finest fights in the recent decades.
