Philadelphia's Tevin Farmer, a highly regarded contender in the 130lb division, takes on heavy handed Japanese fighter, Kenichi Ogawa, at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.

The fight is negative as Farmer shows great footwork, but throws very little, while Ogawa, aggressive, but struggling to find the distance to let his hands go.

As the rounds tick by, it seems Farmer is winning the rounds, as he is the only one landing clean with anything, Ogawa, still pressing the issue, making Farmer work, but not having success.

As the mid rounds approach, the fight becomes more interesting, as Ogawa's ability to withstand the mild punches of a light punching Farmer, helps him, though, Farmer, still mobile, still landing with some clean work, does not increase his work rate, offensively, is not consistent, and Ogawa begins to find his range more often, throwing in clusters, much of what he throws, blocked, but he is able to punch through the guard of Farmer to land a couple of hard shots every now and again.

Through the mid to late rounds, Ogawa raises his work rate, hits Farmer's guard, often, but is not without success, landing few, but solid, stand out punches, though Farmer, able to find the target, with shots that aren't very telling. Farmer picks up the pace in the last round, landing a good flurry, but does not find he the dominant finish he was looking for, as he is unable to hurt Ogawa, who sustains his aggression.

The general consensus is that Farmer has outboxed, out thought Ogawa, has been too slick, technical, and has won by a landslide, both fighters clearly believe they have won the fight.

To the shock of most viewers, much to the anger of some, Ogawa becomes the new IBF junior lightweight world champion, winning the fight via controversial split decision, two judges, strongly disagreeing with each other, scoring the fight wide each way, this is evidence of how controversial, fascinating a fight it had been.

Unofficial scorecards outside of Eye on the ring.

SkySports: 119-110 Farmer
Bad Left Hook: 117-111 Farmer
DCMIKETV: 117-112 Farmer

It is later disclosed that Ogawa was using a banned substance during the fight, meaning he loses the title, the win is wiped off, and it becomes a No Contest for Farmer also.

Prediction,

I think Farmer wins this one. I've never seen Ogawa box, my understanding is that he is half decent at this level, but not great, and really, Farmer should outbox him, prove himself too slick, without any real problems, I don't see Farmer pulling out the stoppage, he could, but I would think it unlikely, I think he'll win by landslide margins though, on all the cards, lose 0-3 rounds, and put up a great display of boxing skills, becoming a world champion. I hope Farmer's ordeal of being shot to tha hand, earlier in the year, doesn't cause him too many problems, mentally, he'll be fine, but it might hinder compromise his ability a bit, he's not a big puncher, so not putting a great deal of weight behind the shots, should be something he can do, his style as well, something which could decrease his hand issues, if he takes a leaf out of Floyd Mayweather's book, maybe not manages to elimate hand issues from the scenariob, but is able ti work around these issues, use his feet, learn from this fight, he should be fine.

It is easy to underestimate Tevin Farmer, losses to 4 fighters, Jose Pedraza being the latest, no disgrace there, all the others were also undefeated, he was actually stopped on his professional debut. Despite his losses, Farmer hasn't lost since 2012, and since then, he has had 18 fights, he had a fight earlier in the year, 4 in 2016, so he's been active. I think people who don't rate Tevin Farmer, are mistaken.

Good that this isn't a loss for Farmer anymore.
