I can see Pacquiao winning this fight. Floyd is underestimating how smart Manny can be in the ring. Manny can be different types of fighters within the same fight. I don't think he will be careless and barging in like most people expect him to. Manny has every fighinting element thathas caused floyd trouble in the past. I can't wait!

Zoe's picture

I think Pacquiao is the one fighter around who could get through Floyd's ultra defensive style. He may also have an edge in stamina / pace. I was reading through some of the comments around the site last night and someone here commented on the pace of Mayweather's fight with Maidana. I think in that fight we saw that Mayweather could be tired out - if someone can figure out the right pace. One of Mayweather's great strengths is he can adjust to his opponent -- and I think the fighter that could get in the ring and adjust to Mayweather's style... is Pacquiao.

Looking forward to this fight. (The hype is so over the top, but the crazy hype is one of the things I like boxing.)

Champion97's picture

That someone wouldn't be the one and only Champion97 would it, haha.

Zoe's picture

I thought it was you, but I wasn't sure. I was 99.999% tho. :)

Champion97's picture

I think the pressure is on Mayweather here, maybe slightly more than Pacquiao, I don't think it just the 0, but also that Pacquiao has done well to come back from those back to back losses, no matter what happens, I think his popularity will help him as well, more than Mayweather's would if Pacquiao wins this (which I think he will to be honest, 55/45 for though), but obviously, the pressure is also on Pacquiao, big time, all this hype, the build nup, this has been going on for years, amongst the fans, I think Floyd might have even become something of an underdog!, with everything Freddie Roach has said as well, that they've been working on this game plan for over 5 years, there is a lot at steak for team Pacquiao here.

Zoe's picture

Hi Champ. Hey where is that predictive round by round you did on this fight? I can't remember.. :\

Champion97's picture

Hi Zoe, that analysis is on Glassjoe's scorecard for Wilder vs Stiverne.

Champion97's picture

I couldn't believe how well Mayweather boxed here, he neutralised, nullified Pacquiao. Mayweather's ability to keep Pacquiao at the distance he wanted him at, was incredible. Mayweather looked so much physically stronger than Pacquiao, he's the naturally bigger guy, and he was able to use that advantage, he claimed centre ring from first bell, which in itself, confused Pacquiao, stopped him in his tracks. After 1 round, I knew that most of us had misread this match up, thinking it was a 50/50 fight.

I felt sorry for Pacquiao after the fight, I think he knew he hadn't won, Freddie Roach said so himself, Mayweather won, but as well, it wasn't close, and after all the talk, all the hype, how hard Pacquiao must have trained, in the end, he couldn't back it up, and he got well beaten. I think had this turned into a dogfight, Mayweather, as naturally bigger fighter, would have come on strong, and out fought Pacquiao, in round 8, Pacquiao looked not only dejected, but also as if he felt the weight of a couple of Mayweather's punches, and the pace, seemed like, if for anyone, it was too much for Pacquiao, not Mayweather.

Some people think this was a close fight, because Pacquiao did a good job of blocking some of Mayweather's straight shots, and Mayweather didn't put many combinations together, and Pacquiao, on the front foot, aggressive, trying to force the fight, and when he had Mayweather in the corner, he would let fly with 3, 4 big shots, and some looked as if they were landing, they missed by a millimetre some of them, some landed on the head of Mayweather, but they weren't clean shots, there wasn't any authority on them. Mayweather might not have thrown a great deal of punches, but what is funny is, overall, I think he threw more than Pacquiao, in some rounds, Pacquiao was on the defensive, just would not commit, and Mayweather not only outboxed but out worked Pacquiao as well. Pacquiao's flurries didn't come often enough, he was looking for a big shot a lot of the time, which was only more wasteful when he threw a burst of punches. Mayweather didn't counter, punch off the ropes very often, early, but he still stood his ground centre ring, at times, in every round, landed with the best, the cleanest punches of the round, he didn't do a lot, he did enough, he landed more, he landed better, not much in the rounds, Pacquiao threw more punches, tried to make it a fight, but that doesn't mean he wins the rounds. There is no reason to give a fighter a round if he can't dictate the fight, doesn't out land his opponent, never hurts him. Pacquiao did hurt Mayweather in round 4, but in the other 11 rounds, he couldn't, I'm referring to rounds 2, 3, 7, rounds people seem to think Pacquiao won, it wasn't obvious to the eye of a casual or biased fan, that he didn't win the rounds, but in all realism, when scoring the fight properly, these were clear Mayweather rounds as were the obvious rounds for him, 1, 5, 11. Pacquiao won round 4, because he bullied Mayweather, outworked him, didn't find a lot of accuracy, but was at least able to put a dent in Mayweather, and in rounds 6, 9 and 10, Mayweather's output was low enough, and Pacquiao landed enough glancing blows that he could have nicked one or two of the rounds, but apart from that, apart from those 1-4 rounds, Pacquiao won nothing.

It might sound harsh (and while I say this, there is no shame in losing 8-4 or wider, to Floyd Mayweather Jr, he did better than Marquez, Hatton, Mosley, Canelo, Corrales, Gatti), not only did Pacquiao not win the fight, he failed to give Mayweather more of a challenging fight than Castillo, Maidana, De La Hoya, and Cotto, in my opinion, so really, in the end, with the greatest of respect to him as, really still a boxing legend in retrospect, Pacquiao, against Mayweather, was not a serious rival, he was just another opponent, he hurt Mayweather in a good round he had, so did Cotto, so did Maidana, he might have nicked a couple of late rounds on work rate and aggression, so do most of Mayweather's opponents. Mayweather deserves a lot of credit for making Pacquiao into another opponent, and just that, letting him come no closer to winning than than Maidana, Cotto, fighters Pacquiao was considered a level higher than before the fight.

All exchanges watched closely, often in slow mo to see what landed
Round 1- 10-9 May. May outlanding Pac 5 to 1. CLEAR WINNER
Round 2- 10-9 May. 5 punches landed by both
Round 3- 10-9 Pac. Pac outlanding May 9 to 4
Round 4- 10-9 Pac. Pac outlanding May 21 to 7. CLEAR WINNER
Round 5- 10-9 May. Mayweather outlanding Pac 6 to 3. CLEAR WINNER
Round 6- 10-9 Pac. Pac outlanding May 16 to 9. CLEAR WINNER
Round 7- 10-9 Pac. Pac outlanding May 9 to 6
Round 8- 10-9 May. May outlanding Pac 7 to 6
Round 9- 10-9 Pac. Both landed 7 punches
Round 10- 10-9 Pac. Pac outlanding May 8 to 4
Round 11- 10-9 May. May outlanding Pac 13 to 7. CLEAR WINNER
Round 12- 10-9 May. Pac outlanding May 8 to 7

114-114 on my card. Total punches, Pac outlanded May 100-80!
Rounds 4 and 6 were clear Pac rounds. Rounds 1, 5 and 11 were clear May rounds. The rest you could make a case for going either way.
This was a close fight. The commentary was a disgrace, punch stats were a joke. Both were Bradley Pac 1 levels of bias

Champion97's picture

To be honest, I don't feel I need slow motion, I just repeat exchanges if I need to, I only use replays to confirm a knock down or slip. At some point, I will Champubox this fight, at some point, and we can compare statistics, it will be interesting to see how they compare.

Champion97's picture

So would you want to see a rematch?

Maybe but there's no chance of that happening. This fight really didn't prove much to me, I just wish it happened when both were in their primes.

TalesFromTheCrypt's picture

It's not completely crazy to say Manny Pacquiao won this fight. In fact, many broadcasts over the world had Pacman winning. This is the Spanish broadcast:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l1Kij5gLwZY

Here's some other countries:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y0d3fLLW6Gw

Here's CNN Phillipines:

http://cnnphilippines.com/sports/2015/05/03/i-thought-i-won-the-fight.html

I also read an article to which I can't find the link anymore, where CNN (US) hired 3 independent judges to rescore the Manny Pacquiao fight. All 3 judges had the fight 8-4 Pacman.

I'm sorry, but I just don't see where Floyd one the fight. Manny controlled the centre of the ring. Floyd never landed anything big and didn't even throw 1 punch throughout the fight with conviction. 8-4 Pacquiao for me.

Champion97's picture

Would you like to see Manny Pacquiao continue with his career? Or do you agree with his decision to hang up the gloves?

TalesFromTheCrypt's picture

Of course as a boxing fan I'd like to see him continue. There's still some more great fights out there for him. Mayweather 2, Broner, Crawford, Canelo, Khan, Thurman... The smart thing though for him to do would be to retire. He's accomplished everything inside of the ring. He has a record 8 division world titles, and will be looked at as one of the greatest of all time. There's really no need for him to keep fighting. He could end up going out the way Ali did, Sugar Ray- losing to guys he shouldn't have because they didn't know when to hang it up. Or worse, like Roy Jones Jr.

Champion97's picture

Well, to be honest, I wouldn't like to see him continue, the second win over Bradley was a great way for him to say goodbye. A Mayweather rematch is extremely unlikely, very few are really interested now. Exactly, which is the reason why he deserves a lot of credit for making the wise decision he has made, I think a lot of people don't realise just how difficult it is for a boxer to retire, especially at this level, people think boxers are just guys who put their bodies through ordeals and make themselves suffer just earn a lot of money, but as I'm sure you know, boxers relish what they do, besides their close friends and family, boxing is their life, and retiring is extremely difficult, I suppose it feels to them as if their losing their identity to an extent, and their losing a big part of the meaning of their life, of course, retired boxers can live long, very happy retirements, I'm not saying those negative emotions haunt ex boxers permanently, I'm saying that this is what the process of retirement is like, Floyd Mayweather was very smart about it, his retirement was probably easy by the standards I'm talking about because he got to that stage when he didn't really enjoy boxing any more (between the Pacquiao fight and the Berto fight), I remember him saying just after he beat Saul Alvarez that his last fight would take place in September of 2015, so he had a lot of time to mentally and emotionally prepare himself for retirement. I agree 100%, Manny Pacquiao has had a sensational career, and I really would not like to see him ruin the opportunity to retire now, on this good note, and decline as a fighter, I think his decline would taken advantage of, and boxers hoping to make statements would call him out for all the wrong reasons, so retiring is the right decision in my strong opinion. Roy Jones Jr should not have a licence, it is as simple as that, I'm worried for his health in all honesty, the Maccranelli defeat was brutal, and it was a knock out that exposed him as being in no fit state to be fighting at this level, I noticed he was semi concious at the moment just after taking the shot, so he was gone before he hit the canvas, and these impactful falls can be damaging as well.

Would you like to be part of a prediction game on this site?

TalesFromTheCrypt's picture

Sure. I'll make predictions when I can. Thanks for the invite.

Champion97's picture

Awesome, you're very welcome, the more the merrier!

Acerbitas's picture

I have to disagree with this. I do not believe this fight was any closer than 115-113 for Floyd Mayweather. I thing the fact that it is the Phillipines is the reason they saw Pacquiao winning. Besides the very few people like Mosley and Holyfield and an occasional judge most had Mayweather winning deservedly.

If we were to judge on clean punching, ring generalship, defence and effective aggression it is undeniable Manny has spurts of all these in the rounds such as round 4 and 6 but Mayweather was more dominant in these categories for the majority of the fight. He kept Manny at the end of his his jab for half the fight and kept catching with check hooks. Manny landed a few good straights left hands and he did use feints and good movement to try and corner Floyd but most of his aggression was ineffecive because he was landing about 1 punch in an entire flurry.

TalesFromTheCrypt's picture

The Phillipines had Pacquiao winning because it's the Phillipines? That's fool's logic. The same could be said for Floyd and the US. It's clear you hate Pacquiao with a passion. Your scorecards have Pacquiao losing a lot of major fights lol. That's fine. That is your opinion, and this is mine.

Acerbitas's picture

But the US has a lot of big boxing figures with arguably Mayweather being the biggest. Manny Pacquiao is the hero of the phillipines. What other boxers are that huge outside of the phillipines besides Donaire ? He is Filipino royalty. How is that fool's logic ?

I dislike Manny Pacquiao but I never let that get in the way of my scoring so fuck you for insinuating it.

Marquez vs Pacquiao 1- Marquez close winner by 2 or 3 points (was close and could have went either)
Marquez vs Pacquiao 2- From what I have seen around the internet this one was probably the closest one and I thought Marquez outboxed him.
Marquez vs Pacquiao 3- A draw, couldn't see it any either way.
Marquez vs Pacquiao 4- Pacquiao ahead before KO

Pacquiao vs Barrera 2- Pacquiao close winner (closer than must saw it was_
Pacquiao vs Morales 1- Pacquiao definitely lost

Pacquiao vs Mayweather- Mayweather won full stop.

Pacquiao vs Bradley- Very close that intelligent fans agree with me with I thought Bradley was more consistent but anyone who had Pacquiao a close winner I completely understand.

Pacquiao vs Bradley 2- Pacquaio won relatively easily 9 rounds to 3 I think

Pacquioa vs Bradley 3- Still quite close but the 2 knockdowns carried Manny to victory.

Don't think I have him losing a lot of major fights

TalesFromTheCrypt's picture

Your Pacquiao-Barrera 2 fight suggests you don't know how to score boxing. You originally scored it a draw. Barrera must have been blocking those shots with his head right?

Champion97's picture

I was just revisiting Mayweather vs Pacquiao and stumbled upon these comments, I remember when you and this idiot had this argument, he was a massive Pacquiao hater, you know he scored Pacquiao vs Bradley III 114-113, had Pacquiao losing to Bradley by three points in their first fight, and of course he had Pacquiao vs Barrera a draw, he scored Klitschko vs Povetkin 114-110, man, some people just don't know s*** about boxing.

In the end, me and Boxing Knowledge dropped some hometruths on Acerbitas, and he left the site, admitting that he couldn't handle failing to understand boxing anymore, and really he would be better off just following WWE Raw or some crap like that.

TalesFromTheCrypt's picture

Is America not short on boxing greats right now? Right now Floyd is boxing royalty for the US. Your hate for Pacman is obvious.

Acerbitas's picture

LOL if your going to criticise my boxing scoring it is clear that you can't win the debate otherwise. Honestly I just showed that I don't negatively score for Pacman but it is evident if you scored this 8-4 for Manny you are just as bad as the other pactards. My work here is done.

Champion97's picture

He already has won the debate!
You tried to, but failed miserabley, and convinced nobody, probably not even yourself, even you probably know deep down that you do score fights unfairly towards Pacquiao because of what you think about him as a person. That's just his opinion, we are all enititled to score fights however we see them, it's not fair for you to bully people into scoring fights the way you see them.

Don't use that word, pac**** is a disgusting term.

Champion97's picture

TalesFromTheCrypt is dead right, it is fool's logic.

Your dislike for Pacquiao does get in the way of your scoring, all the time, any muggle can see that. You're swearing aggressively at Tales shows you're losing the argument.

There is no doubt that you can't stand Pacquiao, and that affects your judgement. The third fight could have gone either way.

No, you are completely wrong, it was wider that you saw it to be, it was a one sided fight. And Morales didn't beat him anywhere near as wide as you had it.

Boxing is subjective, and if people think Pacquiao won then they are entitled to their own opinion.

Pacquiao won, stop complaining about mathematics.

Haha no way. You just scored that wide because you failed to notice Bradley's success, maybe your desperate for us to think you can score fights without your bitternesss towards Pacquiao getting in the way.

It wasn't close, you're scorecard for that fight was horrible to Pacquiao.

No, but you clearly discredit him on your scorecards.

Champion97's picture

By the way, if you wish to make any predictions, then just submit them on the 'prediction champion of the month' forum page, the points details are on there as well, I'll add your name to the leader board.

Left Eye's picture

I've probably watched this fight 10 times, always have the same score.

I know boxing is subjective, but I'm astounded that so many people debate the outcome of this fight.

It's amazing that despite being a pure boxer, Mayweather never relied on his jab, but he did in this fight, and it was impeccable.
