Prediction,

This is very interesting fight, a very exciting fight, and a fight which is big enough to headline a big night for boxing in one of the biggest boxing cities in America.

Mikey Garcia, in my opinion, is one of the best boxers in the world, I believe he beats almost anyone, even Lomackenko, I believe only Crawford is better than him in his approximate weight division. I think Mikey Garcia has been unfortunately denied a lot of opportunities in the past, and missed out on some big fights, he has been able to secure solid wins, Salido, Martinez, Lopez, but he hasn't been involved in a big, dramatic 50/50 fight, Rojas, Zlaticanin are good fighters, and he has just destroyed them both, besides all the other ddcemt opponents he has beaten, but Garcia has never fought anybody as good as Adrien Broner, I don't think.

Adrien Broner is very good, I don't think he is as good as some believe, I believe he is also a lot better than others believe, he does deserve credit for his achievements in his career, four weight world champion, emphatic wins over Antonio DeMrco, Elroy Perez, victories over Daniel Ponce De Leon, Paulie Malignaggi, he is extremely dangerous, Gavin Rees is knows for his durability in the UK, he was 'stunned by Broner's power', Marcos Maidana has talked about Adrien Broner's power and strength, and after hearing what he says, anybody who doubts Broner's power and strength can think again, but at the same time, Marcos Maidana and Shawn Porter not only beat Broner, they beat him wide, (Porter never did get the credit he deserves for that fantastic win) so Broner, has come up short when he has stepped up to the top before, he has been able to adapt, give both superior opponents tough times, he even dropped Shawn Porter, but when all said and done, the final statement is that he wasn't able to get the victory either time, so for those who say this is a 50/50 fight, I believe are wrong.

Interestingly, one could argue that Broner has a good chance in this fight, who has the better amateur career out of Broner and Garcia?, Broner, who has been in with the better opponents? Adrien Broner, who if anybody will the weight benefit? Adrien Broner, I do believe this is something for the Garcia fans who have a strong dislike for Broner to be concerned about. I think the Garcias are expecting to sacrifice speed against Broner, what with them moving up 5 lbs in weight (which is more than one might imagine), and I think the fact that Broner is more used to 140 and above, it might suit him, but I believe Mikey and Robert Garcia will be prepared for this, and they will work around it. Adrien Broner, I believe, 99% certainly will make weight for this fight, not just for financial reasons, but also because of the improtance of this fight, and the seriousness in which he is approaching the fight with, Broner knows he can make the weight confidently, given that he is still a good 2 years short of 30, and he used to compete at 130, making 140 shouldn't be an issue, and Broner training so hard will help him in this regard. I believe we will we see the best Adrien Broner we have ever seen in this fight, he is training hard, but in all realism, it doesn't matter how hard a fighter trains for 8, maybe 10 weeks, if they are in there against someone who lives nealry all of the year in that mode, and they do what Broner was doing 5 weeks ago, drinking a lot of alchohol, living without discipline, they won't have the same level of fitness, and it will show in the second half of the fight, Broner will surely try to negate this fact, he will try to control the pace, maybe pressure Garcia, put him in a position where he is working harder, if he can hurt Garcia, that will help him, but I believe Garcia will be prepared for this, and in the end, with these two knowing each others strengths and weaknesses so well, I think it will simply come down to who is better, who has worked harder, who has put more hours in?, who can capitalise upon his opponent's weaknesses better?, who has the upper hand more departments?, who is more adaptable? I believe the answer to all these questions, in this scenario, is Mikey Garcia.

My prediction is a win for Mikey Garcia, and I think he will stop Adrien Broner, I think this will be a competitive fight, it is not going to be an easy win for Garcia, but I doubt it will ever really be a close fight, not once the fight has got going, I think after 9 rounds, it will be a combination of clear Garcia rounds, and rounds which are debatable, I think Garcia will be ahead on the scorecards, wide, at least 87-84, certainly not a shut out, but maybe 88-83, I think will be ahead, and in control, and I think the end will come im round 10. I think Garcia hits harder than Marcos Maidana, many people have said it, and nobody uses their power like Mikey Garcia, that knock out over Zlaticanin, that was phenomenal, I believe Garcia is a special fighter, I don't believe Broner has as much power or as good use of the power he has, I think he can't erase the past 5 years of not training as hard, not working as hard, not being as dedicated to the sport as Mikey Garcia, in a matter of weeks, and all those hours of practice in the gym with his trainer and brother, I believe not only in terms of setting the perfect knock out, but all aspects of boxing, this will show, and Mikey will confirm himself as the much better boxer out of himself and Adrien Broner.

I think this will be the victory Mikey Garcia needs, I think it will set up other big fights, we might see him back in the ring before the end of the year, or he may not fight until 2018, but whenever he fights, hopefully, he can win more belts at lightweight, Flanagan, a lightweight champion, I believe Mikey Garcia can dominate, and claim a title from, Linares, a challenge, after his two fantastic over much improved Anthony Crolla, he has enhanced his reputation, and shwon everyone how underrated he has always been, so at lightweight, Garcia vs Linares is a mega fight, and a fight which I think Garcia wins, he needs these difficult fights so that he show the world how good he is. Ultimately, the Lomackenko fight, the Crawford fight, these fights are even bigger than the Linares fight, these are 50/50 fights, these are some of the biggest and best potential fights in boxing, and fights that I really hope happen.

Adrien Broner is still young, so after this fight, win or lose, he still has time to accomplish big things in his career, I believe he will bounce back from defeat again, I hope he becomes more humble, he isn't a very nice guy, but he isn't a bad person, he is a fighting man who is working for money to spend on himself but to spend on his family, and he is worthy of respct for that. I think Broner will always come up short if he fights an elite, I believe he can win a world title, there have been many world champions who Broner can punch through with ease, heck, he's already avhieved this four times, but I believe Crawford, Spence, Thurman, Garcia, whoever, I believe anyone at the very top level, top 10 fighters, I don't believe we will ever see Broner win against.

Champion97's picture

I read that on BoxingScene, awesome match up in my opinion! Who you got?

EndOfMe1994's picture

Haven't seen enough of either man to say with any real confidence.

Champion97's picture

I think Arroyo might edge it, great fight added to a great card, even without Hurdle vs Trout. Washington vs Miller who you got?

EndOfMe1994's picture

Miller takes it but I think it's close. It wouldn't surprise me if Washington wins.

rorschach's picture

Can't believe Frampton missed weight in only his second outing at 126, then his opponent apparently slips in the shower injuring himself leading to the card being cancelled all in the span of 24 hours. If they reschedule does Frampton get another crack at making weight or is he out of the running for the WBC eliminator?

Champion97's picture

I'd imagine he'd get a another chance, it might depend on a few things, one of them being how much over the limit he came in at.

albertocastany's picture

This is a very interesting fight from a technical point of View.
Mikey Garcia is the favorite here, as he is the smarter and more complete fighter. Weight shouldn't be a problem as Garcia has been sparring with heavier guys. However, I don't remember Garcia fighting a cagey opponent as Broner.
Broner might showboat from time to time, but he is not a Risk taker. He can hold and hold until he finds himself in the right spot to let his hands go with heavy counters.
Garcia should get the decision, but I don't think he will look as dominant as with other opponents.

Champion58's picture

I think Garcia to win, knock him out late on.

rorschach's picture
Left Eye's picture

I'm leaning towards Broner, but I can't pick him with any confidence.

Until he proves otherwise, there will always be questions about his dedication to the sport.

He does seem like he has a chip on his shoulder though, him being a 5 to 1 underdog clearly irked him, he's talked about it constantly.

Champion97's picture

I'm very confident in saying Garcia wins, and Broner will get whooped.

Yeah well let's be honest, he's never beaten anyone better than Paulie Malignaggi, and whenever he's stepped up, he's lost, wide, Maidana, Porter, both much too much for him, I don't think either have the skill of Garcia, or the power. I think the casuals who call Broner a bum, and says he will get crushed in 3 without success, they don't understand why Broner is a fantastic fighter, but I also think that pundits and people in the boxing world, have gotten slightly carried away, over compensated, and Broner, therefore, has become slightly overrated. I think it is a psychological thing that happens when a fight is confirmed, because I guarantee, when Garcia did what he did against Zlaticanin, and Broner struggled with and scraped past Granados, very few would have given him a chance, but many are now, part of that is because Broner will obviously rise to the occasion at least to some extent, but still.

albertocastany's picture

Couldnt watch the fight, but so far it looks as if Mikey performed even better than expected. Is Broner becoming a Gatekeeper?

Left Eye's picture

A whitewash.

Garcia walked Broner down even though he's naturally the smaller man.

I don't know where Broner goes from here, will he be content with beating cans and acting like a buffoon outside the ring...? Probably.

A waste of talent.

Champion97's picture

And everyone was saying it was going to be a close fight :) big mouth Broner is not good enough.

albertocastany's picture

Fight went as expected without surprises. I was thinking Broner would start to push the action a bit sooner, as he would find 0 openings to counter from a non-reckless fighter. Instead he kept himself moving, taunting and inviting Garcia to overcommit without success for most of the fight.
Mikey just did what it was expected from him. Mickey would just stalk Broner and pick his shots carefully without a rush, winning rounds one at a time. Good win for Mickey and I hope we can see more from him soon.

Champion97's picture

I thought Mikey Garcia boxed extremely well in this fight!
Broner was great, in that he was in shape, ready, fast, strong, sharp, focused, determined, but if you are simply outclassed by much better boxer, that's that, there is nothing you can do on the night, and that's why Broner was so clearly beaten. You can see looking at this fight, how carried away so many people got regarding Adrien Broner because of his name, I mean, people were struggling to make predictions, it was never a fight that should have been looked at as 50/50, the evidence is the result, Garcia is levels above Broner.

Mikey Garcia is a very talented fighter, and the reason why he is a special fighter, is because as well as having great talent, he is dedicated to boxing, I keep up with EsNews, a channel on YouTube, the reporter, Ellie Sechback, does a lot of videos in Robert Garcia's gym in California, you only need to watch 2 minutes of one of the videos to see that the Garcias and the whole team are just great guys, they are always busy in the gym, it seems to me like Mikey Garcia's social life is mostly in the boxing gym, there are always a lot of people around, he's said, "the house is boring", he's one of those guys who stays consistent because he always enjoys preparing for fights, people assumed he trained less hard than he did in his long layoff from his fights, Garcia is training all the time, begins training camps in good time, is always busy, and because he has the talent he has, and he has one of the best if not the best trainer on the planet in his brother Robert, to a always make sure he is doing everything right in training, Garcia is one of the best boxers in the world, he has all the physical and technical attributes, but his timing, his counter punching ability, as well as his power, these are two key things which make him the fighter that he is, against Broner, the toughest opponent of his career so far, he controlled the pace of the fight, he combined the approach of doing what he needed to to win rounds, and only what was necessary, and really making a fight of it. Garcia gave Broner nothing to capitalise upon, every time he found the right distance, and managed to use his timing, he let the shots go, he threw in bunches as well, attacked body and head, he's defence was great, and nothing fancy or showboat like in his defensive skill either, not moving more than necessary, just moving his head just enough, using his gloves just enough to block, rather than pushing at his defence so hard, shying away from Broner's punches and nullifying his response. The pinpoint accuracy of Garcia was great, the way he could jab right through the guard of Broner like a knife, and found the target with clean shots around the guard, he made it entertaining for such a one sided fight, but he also nullified Adrien Broner, I think that was the smallest number of punches Broner has ever landed over the distance of 12 rounds, he couldn't get into any kind of rhythm because Garcia never let him believe with real confidence that he could land clean.

Garcia kept it basic, boxed with maturity beyond his years maybe really, but he also showed the attribute of a high work rate, there were no rounds he could have lost through default or anything like that, he's no Saunders, he doesn't lose rounds through laziness. Garcia actually raised the pace in the last few rounds I think, he certainly didn't slow the pace, didn't tire, and Broner was dangerous throughout the fight.

Garcia didn't beat a washed up Broner, he beat a 28 year old, experienced, ready, motivated Broner, I've never seen Broner so well conditioned, powerful, fast, agile, he's a much better fighter at 140 than 147, that is for sure, he isn't a welterweight, clearly, he can still win a world title, with Terence Crawford moving up to 147, I think Broner is the best in his division, there are others, Progaris, Postol, Taylor, but I think Broner is top dog at the moment, he should take advantage of the fact that the division isn't competitive at this level. Broner took every punch Garcia hit him with very well, nothing really slowed him down, he may have been shaken up once or twice, but never really seriously hurt, part of that was due to the weight, but he took all those punches very well. There is no shame in being schooled by a likely top 5 pound for pound fighter and almost definite top 10 pound for pound fighter, Broner shouldn't let this defeat ruin his career, because if he does, he'll regret it when it is too late, in 5 years, there is no going back, he is 28, he is in his prime, not many fighters in the world could have beaten him in this fight, he should take confidence from the positives, and bounce back from the defeat like a bad check, stay consistent, stay active, stay at 140, and he can win a world title again in the future.

The judges were ridiculous here, from round 2 to 8, and in the championship rounds, Broner won nothing, he won nothing decisive in the whole fight, there were 3 rounds you could have given him, I would say Garcia by 6 is harsh to Garcia, a shutout is harsh on Broner, 118-110/119-109, is how the fight should have been scored, that was not 8-4, it doesn't matter in this scenario, but if the fight really had been 8-4, a comfortable, and still quite wide margin, then what? Garcia gets robbed, these judges need to learn to be precise when scoring fights.
