AJ hurt and almost pulled out before the Ruiz fight?
Found this interesting tidbit today, and had heard rumors of this since fight night.
“Anthony Joshua hurt badly in sparring prior to the fight
It’s understood sparring partner Joey Dawejko put Joshua on the canvas hard when they traded blows. Something which may have had a profound effect on the ex-unified ruler mentally.
Father Robert wanted Joshua removed from the headlining fight on June 1. His calls were not subsequently acted upon.
In the post-fight ring melee after Ruiz had inflicted a horrendous loss on Joshua, Robert could be seen waving his finger and hurling abuse at promoter Eddie Hearn.
It’s fair to say, Robert didn’t want his son anywhere near Madison Square Garden that night.
Joshua was seen asking his dad to calm down and mouthing the words, ‘I’m the one fighting’ as Robert attempted to get his point across.
Suffering such a bad blow in camp must have been demoralizing for Joshua, coupled with the fact the 30 year-old was far from home.
Camera work picked up Joshua stating, ‘why do I feel like this’ between rounds. A short time later, Ruiz inflicted hammer blow to take away the titles.
A rematch is set to happen in November or December. The return will only go ahead if Joshua feels ready for a return at that point.
It could take some time for Joshua to come to terms with the manner of his defeat after dropping his ‘0’ to the Mexican-American.
Ruiz now joins Deontay Wilder as the two main rulers of the top division. Tyson Fury is also rated above Joshua.

It is an interesting theory but I doubt it is true because Eddie wouldn't risk his cash cow like that. Eddie may be a conman but he's not stupid. Joshua and Eddie would really be in trouble if Joshua loses the rematch. If Joshua doesn't retire, his brand is going to be way down. His DAZN deal is apparently up after that fight and if Joshua loses, why would they renew it? If they don't renew the deal that's terrible for Eddie and Matchroom.

I wouldn’t be shocked were it true, but like anything, including the Wilder Flu before Ortiz and arm injury before Fury, we just never know for sure. But yeah, he loses the rematch, he’s in bad shape for any future deal. I think that was part of the reluctance of Wilder signing with DAZN, as that huge money deal had so many contingencies, including AJ and him both staying undefeated.

Re: AJ hurt and almost pulled out before the Ruiz fight?
There have been rumors like that in the past where fighters got blown out, recently Lucas Browne apparently being KO'd by Del Boy in sparring a week before fighting Dillian Whyte and getting blown out and Sadam Ali apparently being knocked down multiple times by Richard Commey before getting blown out by Jaime Munguia. The thing is that those guys aren't big cash fighters like Joshua so they wouldn't have the team looking out for him I believe Joshua would have if it was true. It is just speculation, but it would be bad if Joshua is actually getting knocked down by guys like Dawejko in sparring, of course there are rumors of other guys doing it as well like Dubois and Okolie which makes his chin seem even more questionable if true. Right now it looks like Wilder definitely made the right decision, I think most people would consider the Wilder vs. Fury winner to be the #1 heavyweight, especially if it is Fury.

There is also a rumour Joshua had a panic attack before the fight.
