More:

After losing his Super Featherweight title to Juan Manuel Marquez, Marco Antonio Barrera finally agrees to a rematch against the man who destroyed him in 2003, Manny Pacquiao. Barrera tries to out box Pacquiao but refuses to engage frequently enough to win rounds off his conqueror except when taking a cheap shot on a break in the eleventh round, for which he is docked a point by Referee Tony Weeks. After twelve rounds, Pacquiao has tamed Barrera once more and wins a wide unanimous decision.

Champion97's picture

Fantastic performance from Manny Pacquiao, he showed brilliance in the areas in which he was known to have been a top fighter, and he demonstrated fantastic movement, HBO were quick to point out his strong, powerfu, offenisve arsenal, but I was very impressed with his cute accurate offence, especially the straight left. Barrera used his experience in this fight, and tested Pacquiao's maturity, but Pacquiao passed this test with flying colours, negating the offencd of the fellow boxing legend, and dare I say, out classing him, I have to say, Barrera was very, very well beaten, but I hope he was proud of himself, his status as a boxing legend was already concrete, but warriors like Barrera don't just stop boxing when they can, they have a burning desire to box on for as long as they can, and Barrera did so well in this fight to make Pacquiao's best option to box with intelligence, he did so well to go the distance, maybe win a round or two, against the younger man in his prime, and improve on his first performance against Manny Pacquiao. I think HBO made this out to be a closer fight than it was, I don't think they expressed the difference in how meaningful the offence of Pacquiao often was, to that of his brave but well beaten opponent, I believe Maanny Steward was very kind to Barrera, and that was more his choice, but I think Lampley (who I wish would stop talking about his beloved compubox which everyone knows is absolute garbage every single round) and Merchant failed to percept this, and Merchant was wrong to have it 29-29 at three, Barrera didn't win anything until maybe round five. I have never thought much of Tom Schreck as a judge, and he was awful in this fight, to make ths situation worse, the two judges who turned in valid scorecards on this occasion, have both shown themselves to be poor judges. I love boxing, but the judging system on this great sport, is an absolute mess, let's be honest, the officials aren't the bosses of accuracy, it's the analysts, the good ones, and there's always that question 'will the judges get it right?', and I don't think the sitaution should be like this at all, I think the judges need to be selected differently.

Barrera's performance against JMM was his last great one.
