Lubin Decision. massive reach disadvantage could make EL gun shy but there's nothing to be gained from going punch for punch at range here. SF has big technical problems in close range and continues to nullify his length by rushing into the pocket. his jab is so consistent that its predictable never defends with his backhand a solid counter puncher like EL should find success but he needs to be aggressive enough to create those opportunities because its difficult to stay far enough back from a giant to counter at your own pace. despite always having his chin in the worst position SF is hard to hurt and the combination of massive reach and a chin advantage makes this far from certain but the style match should be pretty clear.

Prediction.

Lubin is far faster, he's defensively better, and he's more accurate, there isn't much in it for power, but Fundora is far stronger, has a far better chin, and Lubin can't come close to matching him for output. Fundora did 10 rounds against a southpaw in 2019, Lubin hasn't fought a southpaw since 2014 at the latest, Fundora has been more active. I think Lubin's judgement of distance and footwork are better than Fundora's, but not so much better that Fundora's massive reach advantage won't be a factor, I think Fundora is offensively better overall, has better variety, he is a better inside fighter, and has better stamina. Lubin's reflexes and timing are good, he puts combinations together very well, and has good movement, the longer it's on the outside, the more it will favour Lubin, as he deals with Fundora's reach advantage better, but it will be interesting to see if Fundora can make him fight his fight and set a high tempo.

I think Fundora will get his jab off first, will struggle for accuracy, but Lubin will be out of range, and will be backed up by the left hand, I think Lubin will step in and cut distance after a round or 2, will fall short as Fundora pulls back, Fundora won't be able to counter Lubin as Lubin gets off first, but Lubin's output will still be low even as he adapts to the reach disadvantage, as Fundora's stance will make him hesitant to throw. I think Fundora will struggle to consistently pressure Lubin, will cut him off well, but he won't be able to swarm or corner him, and Lubin will get good combinations off at mid range. I think the fight will be close after 6 rounds, Lubin will seem to be the one coming on, but Fundora will use his strength and output to take advantage of slight fatuige, and when he's able to have even a short span of forcing the fight at close range, he will build on it, and the momentum will swing in his favour, I think he will be relentless, and break Lubin down with volume and accumulation.

I think Fundora wins by late stoppage, I think he's a bad opponent for Lubin, the stance aspect favours Fundora down to the ground, he has enough power to exploit Lubin's weak chin, without needing to be reliant on it, the 12 round distance favours Fundora, even with Lubin having the higher ring IQ. I wouldn't be surprised if Lubin won a decision, he definitely has the skills to out box Fundora, but I wouldn't be surprised if Fundora won a decision either, and I think Fundora wins by late stoppage.

Champion97's picture

Great fight, great performance from Fundora overall, he almost cost himself the fight in round 7, he got reckless, didn't respond when he got caught, but he recovered well, he'd already mostly beaten the fight out of Lubin, and Lubin couldn't build any momentum off the knock down. Fundora's defence was good, Lubin was positioning his shots, but he couldn't get Fundora's respect or stop him working, Fundora was relentless, was able to reset quickly when Lubin moved off, Lubin couldn't adapt to Fundora's variety, he wasn't ready for the uppercuts, was more and more of a target for them, Fundora was doing a better job of cutting him off as the fight went on, and Lubin took relentless punishment, I think the fight was stopped at the right time.

Chris M95's picture

provided no disagreements over money and splits, cvid, injuries and another draw Tim Tszyu has seemed to work his way to top of the line for Charlo Castano 2 winner Fundora will probably have to settle for a Harrison fight next
