Prediction,

Good match up, should be a good fight, neither fighter has anything to lose, both have already had at least one fight where they overachieved, Ali with the Cotto win, Herrera with the performance against Garcia.

Ali is much younger, at 30, Herrera is 37, and Herrera has been in at least 1 seriously damaging fight. Ali comes off 7 months out, Herrera comes off 16 months out, so activity favours Ali.

Interestingly, Herrera has never been stopped, Ali has twice, and Herrera doesn't have a demoralizing loss like Ali's early stoppage loss to Munguia, he was stopped by Jessie Vargas as well. Herrera has the much better chin, is more durable than Ali, there is no record on BoxRec of Herrera being dropped, but according to BoxRec, Ali has bene dropped 7 times, in 3 different fights, dropped 4 times against Munguia in as many rounds, down a couple of times against Vargas, and he got up off the deck to beat Jay Krupp in 2013.

Ali only has 2 losses, he has the Cotto win, which is very impressive, Cotto was shot, retired straight after, but still, he did well, pulled out an upset, and deserved to be the champion after that, he has wins over Luis Carlos Abregu, Johan Perez, but the Cotto win is by his best victory. Herrera has 7 losses, but almost half of those 7 were controversial, he looked terrible against Frankie Gomez on the Alvarez vs Khan undercard, it was a split decision but I haven't heard people complain about the loss to Cano, and I don't think the Mayfield and Alvarado losses were controversial, but most people thought he beat Garcia, a lot of people said the Benavidez fight decision was terrible, the Anchondo loss was considered absolute robbery. Herrea's best wins are probably Provodnikov, Lundy, not bad wins.

I think Ali wins this, should be competitive, and I don't know if Ali is simply better than Herrera, maybe not, but Herrera, old, inactive, and I think Ali wins this, UD, 96-94/97-93.
