When one top prospect actually fights another top prospect.

Duran would eventually become Lightweight world champion and all-around ring legend, while Marcel himself Featherweight world champion, retroactively giving this fight historical significance.

19 year-old Duran was not as polished as the older version, but was every bit the animal. Duran shrugged off flush, hard shots to his chin, and chased down Marcel to brawl on the inside. Marcel was 22, just one year before his domination of Kuniaki Shibata, displayed some smooth boxing skills. Catching Duran with right leads, dodging Duran's wild swings, and even on occasion beating Duran on the inside.

However, Duran proved the stronger man and by the 10th round Marcel appeared spent. Duran was working Marcel on the inside when the referee abruptly stopped the fight. The stoppage was strange and inopportune, to put it simply. The fight should have gone to a decision.
