Prediction,

I think Berchelt will stop Vargas earlier this time, and it will be less competitive than the first fight, I think it will still be fairly competitive, won't be an early finish, but Berchelt will beat Vargas better than he beat him the first time, because Berchelt has had 4 fights since they fought last time, Vargas has had 2, and Vargas is 34, he won't have improved since the first fight, but Berchelt is 27, has improved, I think he learned from the first fight, and is in his prime now.

Vargas comes off 11 months out, Berchelt comes off 5 months out, ring rust is probably somewhat an issue for Vargas. Vargas beat Rod Salka in his last fight, Salka is very poor, a few months before that, he did great, against Stephen Smith, he won a 9 round TD, and to be fair to Vargas, the Salka fight was easy. Berchelt boxed very well against Miura, was not an entertaining fight, but a technically good performance from Berchelt, he got early stoppage wins against Barros and Awuku, and against Roman, it was a great fight, it was a grudge match, Berchelt was hurt in that fight, but he won by late stoppage, and it was still a one sided fight, he dropped Roman a few times, won most rounds if not all the rounds.

I think Berchelt will hurt Vargas early, drop him, but Vargas will fight his way out of trouble, and although Berchelt will have the better of rounds 3-6, the fight will be competitive in those rounds. I think Berchelt will stop Vargas in 7.

Fight may be pushed back from this date due to a hand issue Berchelt has

Champion97's picture

Thanks. Speaking of hand issues, Commey has a bad hand injury, could hamper the Lomachencko unification.

Yeah, puts the getting his WBA mandatory in Crolla back on the table as his most likely matchup. Want to see Mikey vacate the WBC soon, as we all know he won’t be back at 135, just so we can get some clarity on who will fight for that belt. Feel like Campbell, Abdullaev, Pedraza, Haney, and Teofimo could all be considered for a vacant shot when it opens up, given their rankings.

Berchelt stops Vargas in 10 imo. He's improved since their first fight, while watching Vargas, not so much.

Champion97's picture

You should definitely join the prediction competition!

Good smart stoppage.

Champion97's picture

Great performance from Berchelt, I think he struggled to look good, but he was winning the rounds, never looked like he wasn't going to win, and he got the stoppage a lot earlier this time. I think Berchelt is improving with every fight, is a very good fighter, might be top 10, more likely not, but he is very good, and I think the Ito fight should happen next, provided Ito gets past Herring.

Vargas has had a good career, but I think he should retire, he is 34, and he took a phenomenal amount of damage against Miura, Salido, and with both Berchelt losses, he will probably be a shot fighter after this fight.
