Prediction,

Interesting fight, two unbeaten prospects, 2 different ways of looking at the fight. Barrios is a far more experienced professional, Akhmedov is the far more experienced amateur.

Barrios is 24-0, that's a fair amount of fights, he's been 12 rounds, Akhmedov has been 10 but not 12. Akhmedov was dropped against Barroso, Barroso can punch, but his chin is questionable, and if he doesn't take a shot well, and Barrios made a statement in his last fight, stopped Velasco in 2 rounds, Velasco previously went past 7 rounds against Progrias.

Akhmedov was an Olympian, was in the WSB, which is basically semi-professional boxing, the pedigree is there, 7 fights is not many at all, but obviously, he doesn't need as many fights as a less experienced amateur, still, I think only a Lomachencko level amateur can be at his best after less than 10 fights.

I can't say with confidence who I think wins this, but I think Barrios, because professional experience is more important than amateur, but I wouldn't be surprised if Akhmedov won, because he fought at a higher level within the amateur ranks, than himself or Barrios has fought at as a professional.

I think Akhmedov will get the better of the early rounds, will out box Barrios, be ahead after 4-6 rounds, but he won't control the pace, Barrios will be pushing the pave from the start, making Akhmedov work, and I think I think the momentum will swing in Barrios's favour in rounds 7-9, and he will stop Akhmedov late.

Russians always getting robbed in America smfh!

Barrios got his fucking ass whooped!

He got absolutely battered. Horrible decision

Draw at worst. Just another terrible decision for the more well known fighter.

I honestly can't see how someone could score more than 5 rounds in Barrios' favor.

Champion97's picture

Which one of the first 4 was a good round for Akhmedov? Round 9 was the only one I thought was hard to score, and the last round was what it was, I think Akhmedov winning the more one sided rounds does something to your mind, like with Jack vs DeGale and maybe Stevenson. I didn't think this was a bad decision at all, easy fight to score I thought, but I agree the wide cards were off.

I don't see round 9 for Barrios at all. Ahkmedov was mostly dominant 5-11 and Barrios fairly clear 1-4. I don't see a round for him otherwise except 12 because of the KD.

Champion97's picture

Well I do, so did Sky, different country, neutral, this was in all liklihood, not a bad decision. I agree other than round 9, it was a very close, important round, but read what you just wrote, KD in round 12, Barrios fairly clear for 4 rounds, that alone ties it up, yes round 12 could have been 10-9, but most judges don't score fights like that, some, but not most, and if the last round was 10-8 in your mind, you just yourself ruled out Akhmedov winning.

Don't care what Sky thinks. I had the round for Akhmedov and thought round 6 was closer than 9. I never said a draw would be a bad scorecard.

Champion97's picture

Well they are a good commentary team. You said Barrios by 2 is a bad scorecard, that's my card, I disagree, I'm explaining why.

Champion97's picture

Good fight, big swings in momentum, Barrios dominated for 4 rounds, got a knockdown, and with the exception of that close 9th round, Akhmedov took over the fight and dominated rounds 5-11, was winning round 12, seemed to be definitely 20 seconds away from winning the fight at the end of the last round, but Barrios landed that great right and got the knock down.

It would have been a draw even without the KD in the 12th. Judges were backing the A side all the way.

Actually, I looked again, and I was wrong. Pretty sure the fight would have been a SD win for Barrios even with the KD in the 12th. Fucking ludicrous.

Yeah if Barrios didn't knock Akhmedov down in round 12 he still would have won by SD...a complete joke. Barrios is now even suspended to fight for 6 months because he got whooped so bad...boxing is ridiculous man.

Champion97's picture

Boxing is a great sport, there are bad decisions, there are also people who say decisions are bad when they are not, no way this was a whooping, what are you talking about? 3 point whoopping?, the suspension is nothing unusual nowadays, that was a tough 12 round fight, this was no robbery, yes he would have been lucky to have got the nod without the last KD, but he did get the late KD.
