Manny Pacquiao vs. Juan Manuel Marquez III
Fight Notes: They've fought 36 rounds, with still no closure. Juan Manuel Marquez and his team were so incensed with the decision, feeling that they had come in with an actionable game plan and executed it to perfection, surprisingly outlanding Manny Pacquiao and beating him to the punch in exchanges despite Manny's advantage in speed, that they stormed out of the ring, eschewing the normal interview with HBO. Manny, for his part, indicated that he felt he clearly beat Marquez. |

Re: Manny Pacquiao vs. Juan Manuel Marquez III
I thought Marquez won this one, it was another close, razor tight fight, but I thought Marquez edged Pacquiao by a point, rather than the other way around, which is how I saw teh first 2 of their fights.
I think Marquez's all round skilset was better than Pacquiao's, but Pacquiao, with the special attributes, incredible speed, combination punch ability. I think Marquez desreved to nick this one on the cards because he managed to keep the fight at a consistent pace, often, and I think because he won the duration of the majority of the rounds, I just thought he wbad the better of it, fair decision, no problem with Pacquiao edging it again, he was the one who was able to take the fight up a gear, and put his ffoot down, impress in stealing a round, it was another one of those, just like the first 2, could have been svored to either fighter, but I don't think 116-112 should be the mathematics on any scorecard in a fight this close.

I find it strange that a sizeable amount of people refer to this fight as a robbery. Maybe it's because Marquez won the 2 clearest rounds of the fight (5 and 7). I thought it was a very close fight, probably the hardest to score out of the 3 that went the distance.

This is one of those very, very, very rare fights that me and A LOT (most people on this site by the looks of it) have it a draw and that it is the fairest outcome. Neither fighter really "won" the fight. Marquez was "going to win" the fight but let Pacquiao come on. Was an even fight.

Re: Manny Pacquiao vs. Juan Manuel Marquez III
Yeah there should not be a rule that basically requires a fight to be a draw if someone disagrees with a close decision. Only in VERY exceptional circumstances do I expect a commission take action against an official decision that needs to be changed. I will take one of the most well known ones. Pernell Whitaker vs Julio Cesar Chavez. The draw was unjustifiable and giving every and I mean every possible round you could to Chavez the fight would still be 115-113 to Whitaker. I think the real score was 116-112 to 118-110. In that case unofficial, respected judges should re-watch the fight and if the score comes out vastly different the decision should be changed. That's my opinion of course.

By far their tamest affair.
A much more cerebral fight by both.

Yeah, that's to do with age and experience I think, it becomes more negative, more tactical, more about not making the first mistake amd waiting capitalise on your opponent doing that.

Re: Manny Pacquiao vs. Juan Manuel Marquez III
This fight wasn't as close as the first 2, despite that Marquez and his team protested loudly. I thought Pacquiao clearly won this fight, the punch totals verify as much. I think Pacquiao landed close to 100 more punches then Marquez and Pacquiao had more power so it's very likely he landed far more power shots as well.
I think Marquez' team believed they were 'owed' this fight because of how close the first 2 fights were. That must be the main reason for their protest, because even though punch totals aren't the only criteria used, it's rare for a fighter to lose if he lands nearly 100 more punches. I don't think it's realistic to give a decision to any fighter if he landed about 100 less punches, except if the majority of the punches from one guy verses the other were jabs.
Marquez fans shouldn't be upset, because I think Pacquiao was robbed in their first fight. It was scored a draw, but later one of the judges notified the boxing commission that he made an error on his card. This wasn't a controversial 'error', it was an error that nobody could dispute. The judge gave Pacquiao one less point in the first round, a mistake due to the 3 knockdowns scored by Pacquiao in that round. When a judge tells boxing officials he made a mathematical error, the officials can verify that and nobody can dispute the error, the result should be changed. Many fights have been reversed for the same reason, but in this case the officials ruled that this wasn't a valid reason to overturn the decision.
I say it's the very best reason to overturn the decision, because Pacquiao had nothing to do with it and the error was indisputable. When the officials said it didn't warrant changing the decision, that proved to me that beyond all doubt,...... officials are corrupt liars.
I began scoring fights for myself, and I use my score instead of the judges scores because there's rampant cheating going on. My score isn't official,.... but it's official in my house, the hell with boxing authorities. Pac definitely got robbed and jobbed in the first fight with Marquez, and nobody on Earth can argue otherwise.
