Prediction,

Great match up, looking forward to this one.

Pacquiao should be the favourite, he's the boxing legend, Broner's a 4 weight world champion, won world titles at 130-147, but Pacquiao is a 7 weight world champion, won world titles at 112, 122-135, 147, 154. Broner is known for his talent, but is also known for not making the most of his potential, whereas Pacquiao was Mayweather's rival, has a great resume, will go down as a great fighter, no matter what happens now.

Pacquiao is 40 years old, he is definitely well past his prime, he isn't the shot fighter a lot of us thought he was when he lost to Horn, as he proved against Matthysse, but he is not the fighter he used to be, he isn't a fresh 40 year old, and one of these days, Pacquiao will lose a fight badly, will hopefully finally retire when that happens, but as of now, as of the Matthysse fight, he is not a shot fighter, and doesn't need to be anywhere near the fighter he once was, to be a very good fighter.

Broner has great talent, counter puncher, good technical skill, he carries a lot of natural power, is very tough, and as a kid, he had a lot of dedication, had his first amateur fight when he was 8, had hundreds of bouts, but as a professional, his dicipline, dedication hasn't been great, he does a lot of stupid things in his personal life, let's be honest, he's an idiot, as a boxer, he lacks respect for his opponent, in the gym, he lacks consistency, lacks dedication, against Paulie Malignaggi, he won a split decision, in a fight which could have been easier, against Theophane, he missed the weight, boxed well, but seemed to tire, seemed to not have trained that hard, and in his last fight, against Jessie Vargas, it was a draw, Broner did what damage was done, Broner landed the better shots overall, but as he has in a lot of fights in his career, he lacked output, didn't throw enough punches, didn't respect his opponent, he struggles to take fights as seriously as he should, and for these reasons, Broner isn't and will not go down as a great fighter, he is a good fighter, but he is not great.

For Broner, this is a great opportunity, if he dedicates himself in the gym, doesn't party, doesn't live the good life, gets himself into the shape of his life, studies and prepares tactically for Pacquiao (Pacquiao being so well known, getting your tactics wrong shouldn't be an issue), Broner can make up for any expectations he hasn't lived up to, can turn his career around, if he prepares as best he can, then at 29, he will probably be at his absolute best in this fight, he is very capable of beating a 40 year old Manny Pacquiao, that is, if he prepares for this fight as well as he prepared for the Mikey Garcia fight or possibly better, but how much he wants to win this fight, dedication, training properly, makes all the difference.

I don't think Pacquiao is declining as slowly, is as far from finished as the Matthysse win suggests, I think Matthysse was terrible that night, but he proved he isn't done yet, he'll be confident that if he can do an absolute number on Matthysse, he can beat a guy who got beaten wide by Garcia, Porter, and Maidana, a fighter who failed to beat Vargas.

If Broner doesn't back up, holds centre ring, feints, uses his jab, and can time Pacquiao, set him up for that counter right hand straight down the middle, he can definitely hurt Pacquiao. Broner has a good chin, he is durable, and he is 11 years younger than Pacquiao, and he hits harder I think, so if Broner has to take a couple of clean shots, it is worth it if he can exchange with Pacquiao, land hard shots himself, and if they land simultaneously, with good, clean, hard shots, I think Pacquiao comes off worse.

It has been 9 months since Broner last fought, longer than ideal, but not too much time out, and he has been active overall over the past few years, but Pacquiao, coming off 6 months out, perfect amount of time, so activity favours Pacquiao very slightly, might be a very small factor in the early rounds, but I don't think it will be a factor, because 9 months isn't a long layoff, and I think Broner is prepared for this fight, has gotten good sparring, trained properly.

These are both small welterweights, I don't think there is anything really in it for physical strength.

If Broner has got his fitness up as best he can, is in the shape of his career, then the late rounds should benefit him, when both fighters are putting a shift it, maybe one of them is hurt and the other punches himself out, or they just fight at a high pace, that's when the minute is important. Against Horn, Pacquiao did the real damage, in round 9, Horn was up on desire, he was going, was close to being stopped, but Pacquiao put a lot into the round, threw a lot of punches, put everything into some of the shots, and in the next round, Horn, at 29, had recovered better during the minute, from being out on his feet and staggering, than Pacquiao, at 40, had recovered from emptying his tank, and Horn won that round. In the late rounds, the minute rest could be crucial, he might be able to pick it back up in the next round when Pacquiao can't, because of his age advantage.

I think the biggest factor in this fight will be whether Pacquiao can back Broner up for the majority of the fight, or whether Broner can hold centre ring, put Pacquiao onto the back foot for the majority of the fight.

I think Broner wins this, Pacquiao might, he might have too much variety, too much output, he might be able to make Broner back up for enough of the fight, and he might be able to fight his fight, I don't think the win will come easy, in fact, I think it will be very close, but Broner will win this fight.

I wouldn't be surprised if this was a split decision, I think it will be a close one, it will be a great fight, good action, both will have good rounds, but Broner will win.

I'm 55/45 on Broner edging this, but I would not be surprised if Pacquiao won.

If Pacquiao loses this, I think he might finally retire, I definitely think Roach will tell him to retire, but if he wins, he has a few options. If Broner wins this, he changes his career, beats a legend, 40 or not, makes up for all the fights he has not tried his 100% best in, but if Broner loses this fight, I think he is done at world level, he might not retire, but I don't think he will fight at this level again if he loses.

People really got to stop overrating Broner...he is an average fighter and always has been

Broner really does have big flaws that consistently cause him to lose against quality competition. He is a 4 weight champ because he did a good job cherrypicking. Demarco is his best win with a belt on the line, otherwise he faced some very weak opponents to get/retain those belts.

Broner is not average, he has exceptional talent, but he is an example of wasted talent, no shame in losing to Maidana, Porter, Garcia, Pacquiao, but we are all disappointed in him because he could have done better against Porter, Vargas, Pacquiao.

He isn't average, but he is also far from great. I'll agree he had talent to achieve more, but I don't think he is one of the greatest wastes of talent or anything. He is an example of a good fighter who found a way to pick up accolades greater than his ability (4 weight champ) by cherry picking his competition up until Maidana.

He deserves credit for being a 4 weight world champion, but I agree that makes him him look better than he is, also, one thing I want to point out, is that Broner has been in 5 fights that had disputed outcomes, 4 of them, he won, Quintero, De Leon, Malignaggi, Granados, but when we look at his losses, all 4 of them, clear, and in my opinion, one sided losses.

Champion97's picture

That was very disappointing for Broner, I said before the fight that if Pacquiao backs him up, he loses, he was backing up for almost the whole fight, as usual, just didn't throw enough punches, he is done at world level now, he might retire, but definitely, it is unlikely we'll see him at world level again now. Pacquiao boxed great, he punched himself out a little bit when he had Broner hurt, but unlike Horn, Broner didn't exploit his slow recovery, didn't jump all over a tired Pacquiao and exploit his fatuige, so Pacquiao was able to take some extra time to recover. Pacquiao is past his best, and well past it, but he is not shot, based on this fight, Broner wouldn't have won a round against a prime Pacquiao. Broner was poor in this fight, looked sharp, but just didn't want it as much as Pacquiao, let himself down a bit. I don't think Broner benefited from training with Kevin Cunningham at all, he was better with Mike Stafford if anything, Broner's issues have always been his own fault, not his trainer's.

Mayweather doesn't want to come out of retirement, but it is a case of whether or not the money could tempt him into putting his unbeaten record, legacy on the line, but I don't know if after the first fight not delivering for entertainment value, Mayweather doing nothing but mess around against bums for 2 years in non-boxing fights, I don't know if the fight could get enough buys, could be a good enough earner to get Mayweather out of retirement, I might be wrong though.
